ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

Course Title Islamic banking and finance

Course Instructor Ms.Poonam Riaz
Program BBA – VII

Objective:

Students are required to explore the Islamic modes of financing offered by Islamic banks in
Pakistan. The purpose is to understand how Shariah-compliant financing is applied in real-world
scenarios and to evaluate the products and services offered by these banks.

Instructions:

1. Visit an Islamic Bank:

o Group of two students only is required to visit one or more Islamic banks in
their city. Popular Islamic banks include Meezan Bank, Bank Islami, Al-Baraka
Bank, and Dubai Islamic Bank, among others.
o Gather information about at least two Islamic modes of financing (e.g.,
Murabaha, Musharakah, Ijarah, etc.) offered by the bank.
o You must interview bank representatives to gain detailed insights into how
these financing modes operate in practice. Focus on:
 Terms and conditions.
 Target customers (corporate, SME, or individuals).
 Profit-sharing ratios or lease terms.
 Key benefits and challenges.
 Real-life applications (examples of businesses or individuals using these
modes).
2. Collect Evidence:
o Take pictures of your visit to the bank (outside and inside, wherever permitted).
o Collect brochures, leaflets, or any marketing materials that provide details about
Islamic financing products.
o Record important details from interviews with bank representatives (audio/video
recording or notes, where possible).
3. Prepare a Short Visit Report:
o Your report should be concise, not exceeding 4-5 pages.
o Key sections to include:
1. Introduction: Briefly describe the bank(s) visited and the objectives of
the visit.
2. Islamic Financing Modes: Detailed description of the two financing
modes you researched.
3. Bank Insights: Summarize the insights gained from the bank
representatives, including examples, terms, and customer categories.
4. Personal Reflection: Share your personal thoughts on how Islamic
financing contributes to ethical banking and its potential for growth in
Pakistan.
5. Conclusion: Provide a concluding statement about your findings and their
relevance to the Islamic finance industry in Pakistan.
4. Presentation in Class:
o You will be required to present your findings in front of the class.
o Each presentation should be 7-10 minutes long, covering the key points from
your visit and report.
