Materials and tools needed for the pumpkin:

1. Yarn:
YarnArt JEANS(50gr/160mt) – 84 mustard or 85 terracotta
YarnArt JEANS (50gr/160mt) – 40 brown or 82 hacks
You can use any other yarn with similar colors and weight
(number 2 in the Standard Yarn Weight System).
2. Fiberfill – I use hollow fiber
3. Crochet hook – I use2.5 Clover (US 4)
4. Strong cotton thread for needle sculpting matching
the main color of pumpkin (I used cotton threads СОСО)
5. Scissors
6. Needle for assembly
7. Hard pastels for painting

The finished toy measures: a little pumpkin - 8cm (3.1

inches) high and 9cm (3.5 inches) in diameter, a big pumpkin -
13cm (5.12 inches) high and 9cm (3.5 inches) in case of using
the materials listed. I do yarn under, and then yarn over when
working my stitches.

Abbreviations:

CH – chain
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
Dec - decrease
(…) – total amount of stitches in the round.
Side bar – the loop formed with yarn over in the previous
round
Frontloop – front (the nearest) thread of stitch
Backloop– back (the further from you) thread of stitch
In this pattern we use US terminology.

Main piece:
Start crocheting in main color. The fabric is crocheted
in turning rows with a turning chain at the end of every row.

1. Make CH31, from the second CH from the hook:

30sc (30)

5
@Elena_Metlina_68

2. 30sc into back loops only (30)

3. 30hdc into front loops only (30)

6
@Elena_Metlina_68

4. 30hdc into the side bar (yarn over loop) formed in

the row 3 (30)

7
@Elena_Metlina_68

The fourth row is crocheted into the side bars formed

with yarn over loops in the third row; don’t insert the hook into
the stitch itself in the third row. If we work in this way, the
front and the back loops of stitches will form a braid at the
back side of the work.

5. 30hdc into back loops only(30)

8
@Elena_Metlina_68

6. 30sc into back loops only (30)

9
@Elena_Metlina_68

The rows from the 1st till the 6th form the first rapport.
7. 30sc into back loops only (30)
8. 30sc into front loops only (30)
9. 30hdc into front loops only (30)
10. 30hdc into side bar (yarn over loop) of the
previous row (30)
11. 30hdc into back loops only (30)
12. 30sc into back loops only (30)
The rows from the 7th till the 12th form the second
rapport. Then we will continue to crochet, repeating the
rapport 2.
Work six rapports more by yourself. We should get 8
rapports in total; the total number of rows is 48.
At the end cut the thread, leaving a long thread tail for
sewing the piece. Sew the piece sides in the way shown in the
photo.

10
@Elena_Metlina_68

Attach the thread of main color to the free edge of the

piece and crochet sc along the edge. 1 vertical row is 1 sc. We
must get 48 stitches; the amount of stitches equals the
amount of vertical rows.

Stem:
Continue crocheting, change to brown color.
1. 24dec (24)
2. (2sc, 1dec)*6 (18)
3. (1sc, 1dec)*6 (12)
4-5. 12sc (2 rounds)
6. (1dec, 2sc)*3 (9)
7-8. 9sc (2 rounds)
9. (1dec, 1sc)*3 (6)
10-11. 6sc (2 rounds)
Cut the thread, pull the opening closed, fasten off and
weave in the thread tail.

11
@Elena_Metlina_68

Stuff the piece slightly.

Take a strong cotton thread (the color shade should be
similar to the main color) and a needle and pull the edge closed
in the way shown in the photo. Insert the needle into the most
protruding stitches of each row and pull the thread ends
tightly, tie a knot.

12
@Elena_Metlina_68

As the fabric is thick enough, it will be difficult to pull

it closed from the first time. We run the needle again through
the most protruding stitches of the opening left after we
pulled the threadand pull the thread very tightly. We should
get the neat closed opening.

Needle sculpting:
I use a strong cotton thread СОСО twice folded. The
thread color should be similar to the pumpkin color.
Insert the needle threaded with a strong thread into
the center of our needle sculpting on the bottom and pull out
from the point where we changed the color to brown. Choose
a vertical row with a deepening and pull the thread out, then
reinsert the needle into the center of the needle sculpting

13
@Elena_Metlina_68

again. Repeat these steps seven times more, forming the

pumpkin sections. We should get 8 sections in total.

14
@Elena_Metlina_68

Curl:

Crochet in brown color.

Make CH31 and crochet 30sc from the second chain
from the hook. Cut the thread, leaving a long thread tail for
sewing. Sew it to the pumpkin stem.

Painting:
The final stage of the pumpkin details is painting. I paint
the pumpkin with hard pastels. Make brown and black tints on
the pumpkin sections across the needle sculpting lines, giving
them depth.

15
@Elena_Metlina_68

Pumpkin details:
We outline the location of the eyes, nose and mouth
with needles.

The eyes are located just above the midline

horizontally. One empty slice of pumpkin remains between the
eyes. Sew on the eyes. In a slice in the middle between the
eyes, we embroider the nose. Under the nose we embroider

16
@Elena_Metlina_68

the mouth. We embroider eyebrows. I tinted the places near

the eyes, nose and eyebrows. With a white thread we
embroider the whites of the eyes and a white spot on the nose.

Hat for a small pumpkin:

You can use absolutely any color for the hat. I have
chosen YarnArt Jeans 48 and 70.

1. 6sc into MR

3. (1sc, 1inc) *3 (9)
4-5. 9sc (2 rounds)
6. (2sc, 1inc) *3 (12)

10-11. 15sc (2 rounds)

19. 24sc
20. (2sc, 1inc) *8 (32)
21. 32sc (2 rounds)
22. (3sc, 1inc) *8 (40)
23. 40sc
24. 40sc through back loops only
25. (4sc, 1inc) *8 (48)
26. 48sc

18
@Elena_Metlina_68

Now we will make the brown decoration stripe on the

hat.
Attach the brown thread to the 24th and crochet 24 sc
around the hat through front loops only. Make 2 more rounds
with the same thread:
1. (4sc, 1inc) *8 (48)
2. 48sc, cut the brown thread. Go back to the 26th
round.

27. 48sc – crochet with the basic color through the back
loops of the 2nd round of the brown stripe also.

19
@Elena_Metlina_68

28. (5sc, 1inc) *8 (56)

29. 56sc
30. (6sc, 1inc) *8 (64)
31. 64sc
32. (7sc, 1inc) *8 (72)
33. 72sc
34. (8sc, 1inc) *8 (80)
35. 80sc
36. (9sc, 1inc) *8 (88)
37-38. 88sc (2 rounds)
Make reverse sc along the edge. Fasten off and cut the
thread.

20
@Elena_Metlina_68

Big pumpkin:
For another pumpkin I have chosen yarn of terracotta
color. You can use any color you want. Crochet the other
pumpkin just like the first one, but start with chain of 51 ch,
not 31. All the next steps are similar according the pattern.
Stuff the pumpkin tight! Changing the number of ch in the
starting chain, you can change the size and height of your
pumpkin.

21
@Elena_Metlina_68

so that their sides partly match. If you use safety eys, put
them, or sew the sewing eyes.

2 – pin all the details to the face and choose the best
facial expression.

24
@Elena_Metlina_68

3 – sew on all the detail.

25
@Elena_Metlina_68
