INTRODUCTION
• The Unani System of Medicine
originated in Greece and
introduced in India by Arab and
Persian settlers.
• It is popular in different parts of
the world in different names such
as Greeco Arab Medicine, Arabic
Medicine, Tibb-e-Unani etc.
CONCEPT
• Prescription of drugs, diet, drinks and other
regiments (codes of conduct)- For PPH,
preventive and curative aspects
• Apart from hygienic conditions like clean
water, fresh air etc. balance between body and
mind essential.

• Unani medicine is based around the concepts of
the four humours (Akhalat); they are:
Phlegm (Balgham)
Blood (Dum)
2) BAUL (Urine)
3) BARAZ (Stool)
TREATMENTS
• Regimental therapy- Venesection, cupping,
baths, massage etc.
• Diet therapy- prescribing specific diets,
regulating quantity and quality of food
• Pharmacotherapy- herbal drugs (animal &
plant origin); single/combination of drugs used
• Had the practice of surgery (brain surgery,
laprotomy, plastic surgery etc.)- historical
evidence
