Team Building Activity Proposal
Team Building Activity Proposal
1. Birds of a Feather
1.1 Purpose:
To illustrate the importance of diversity in creating stronger, more effective teams. The activity
demonstrates how diverse team composition can lead to better outcomes and fosters a broader
discussion on inclusivity.
1.2 Materials:
• Index cards or small pieces of paper with letters written on them (enough for each
participant)
• A timer (optional)
1.3 Suggested Participants:
• 15 to 30 participants
1.4 Duration:
• 30-40 minutes
1.5 Mechanics:
• Give each participant an index card with a random letter on it.
• Without giving specific instructions, ask them to form groups of five as quickly as
possible.
• Once they’re in groups, instruct them to form the longest word they can using the letters
on their cards.
• Allow a few rounds to encourage participants to shuffle and create new group
combinations, showing how different configurations can produce new words and longer
words.
• After the game, lead a discussion on how the diversity of letters (and, by extension,
perspectives) helped create new possibilities.
Relevance to theme:
• Promotes Diversity and Inclusion: This exercise visually and interactively demonstrates
the strength of diverse teams, showing how each individual’s unique “letter” or skill set
adds value to the team.
• Encourages Flexibility and Problem-Solving: Team members will see that
collaborating with a variety of people—rather than sticking to familiar subgroups—can
lead to better results.
• Fosters Group Reflection: The debrief session encourages participants to think about
how they can embrace and leverage diversity within their team, aligning well with "The
Dream Team" concept.
2. Human Knot
2.1 Purpose:
To enhance communication, trust, and problem-solving skills among team members through a
fun and physical challenge. This activity requires participants to work closely and
collaboratively, promoting teamwork and effective communication.
2.2 Materials:
2.4 Duration:
• 20-30 minutes
2.5 Mechanics:
• Builds Trust and Communication: This activity encourages participants to rely on one
another, fostering a sense of trust and openness.
• Encourages Creative Problem-Solving: Teams must think outside the box and
collaborate to successfully untangle, reinforcing the importance of teamwork.
• Engages Participants Physically: The fun, active nature of the game helps energize
participants, keeping them engaged and involved throughout the event.
3. Blind Retriever
3.1 Purpose:
To enhance communication skills among team members, emphasizing the importance of
clear instructions and active listening. This activity provides a lighthearted way to
demonstrate how effective communication can lead to success, as well as how
misunderstandings can lead to challenges.
3.2 Materials:
• Blindfold (1 for each round)
• An object to be retrieved (e.g., a ball, a cone, or any easily identifiable item)
• An open space for the activity
3.4 Duration:
• 30 minutes
3. 5 Mechanics:
• Arrange the participants in a spacious area. Designate a location for the object that
will be retrieved.
• Choose one player from each team to wear the blindfold. They will be the "retriever."
• The other team members will take turns verbally guiding their blindfolded teammate
to the object. They must communicate clearly and concisely.
• The goal is for the blindfolded player to find and retrieve the object as quickly as
possible based on their teammates’ directions.
• The first team to successfully retrieve the object wins. Consider playing multiple
rounds, switching out the blindfolded players for variety.
• After the activity, lead a discussion about the importance of communication styles,
the effectiveness of instructions given, and the role of teamwork in achieving goals.
4.2 Materials:
• A long rope or string (enough for all participants to hold, ideally 10-15 feet long)
• Blindfolds (one for each participant)
4.4 Duration:
• 30 minutes
4.5 Mechanics:
• Gather participants in a spacious area. Provide each team with a long rope and
blindfolds.
• Have all participants put on blindfolds so they cannot see.
• Give each team the rope, ensuring that everyone is holding it and that the rope is not
tangled.
• The teams must work together using only verbal communication to form a perfect
square with the rope. They cannot see what they are doing and must rely solely on
each other’s instructions.
• The team successfully completes the challenge when they can confirm that they have
formed a square with the rope.
• After the activity, lead a discussion about the challenges faced during the exercise, the
importance of clear communication, and how leadership roles emerged in the absence
of sight.
5.2 Materials:
• Large sheets of paper or poster boards (one per group)
• Colored markers, crayons, and other art supplies
• Scissors and glue (optional, for creating collages)
5.3 Mechanics:
• Provide each team with a large sheet of paper or poster board and a variety of art
supplies.
• Instruct teams to create a mosaic that represents their collective dreams and
aspirations as a team, using drawings, words, and symbols.
• Allow 15-20 minutes for creation. Afterward, have each group present their mosaic to
the larger group, explaining the significance of their designs.
• Facilitate a discussion on how they can work together to achieve their dreams and
how each member can contribute to the team’s success.
