Thank-you for your interest in volunteering at Sprucedale Youth Centre. We take great pride in the
diverse programming we offer to our male youth. We feel it is important to provide them the
opportunity for a better way of life. Your interest in volunteering provides that opportunity.
We greatly value volunteer participation in most of our youth programming.
Please complete the attached two forms:
Volunteer Appointment Application (attached)
Volunteer Interest Form (below)

Upon receipt and review of the two Volunteer Application forms I will contact you to attend Sprucedale Youth
Centre for an interview to discuss your volunteer potential, availability and interests. Following the interview I
will provide you with the necessary documentation for you to complete a Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSS)
check with your local Police Department.
Once you have received the completed Vulnerable Sector Screening Form back from your local Police please
contact me to set a date for a Volunteer Orientation and facility tour. We will also further discuss your
participation in our youth programming. I will require the original VSS document for our records.

Why do we have Volunteer Programs?


 It is important that our residents not be isolated from the larger community to
which they will return and function
 Volunteers provide positive assistance to residents
 Volunteers share their skills, interests and experiences with our residents
 Volunteers communicate by their presence a sincere desire to help
 Volunteers help to create community sensitivity to the system

Is Sprucedale Youth Centre a safe place to Volunteer?


 Each volunteer receives an orientation, tour and training prior to commencing as
a volunteer
 Volunteer programs take place in areas supervised by Youth Services Officers
 Systems and procedures are in place to provide a safe environment for
residents, staff, volunteers and visitors
 The resident response to volunteers is incredibly positive
