• The flight crew must first apply the ECAM procedure.

• If any doubt exists about the smoke origin, or when the ECAM requests it, then refer to the QRH SMOKE / FUMES / AVNCS SMOKE
procedure.
- SMOKE / FUMES PROC . . . . APPLY

• On A320: The AVIONICS SMOKE ECAM procedure should be applied only when the smoke/fumes are perceptible, i.e. confirmed visually or by
smell. In that case, apply first the ECAM actions. If not, consider a spurious alert and stop the procedure. You may also refer directly the QRH
procedure which covers all ECAM items.

- CREW OXY MASKS . . . . IF RQRD

• On A330 and A340: when SMOKE AVNCS VENT SMOKE is triggered, apply first the ECAM actions. You may also refer directly the QRH
procedure which covers all ECAM items.

• Refer directly to the QRH SMOKE / FUMES / AVNCS SMOKE procedure.

• This QRH procedure covers many cases of smoke sources, even all steps of the AVIONICS SMOKE ECAM procedure.

IMMEDIATE ACTIONS BACK

• The immediate actions may come from the ECAM or the QRH procedures.

• Be prepared to immediately perform a diversion. Anticipate it as time is critical.

• These actions are common to all cases of smoke and fumes, whatever the source.

• The objectives are:

• To protect the flight crew

• To avoid further contamination of the cockpit and/or cabin

• To establish the communication with the cabin crew

Once the first steps of the procedure have been applied and a descent down to FL100/MEA-MORA has been initiated,
you are requested to come back to the SMOKE/FUMES/AVNCS SMOKE procedure to apply the remaining steps

Reaching FL100 or MEA-MORA, you will resume the REMOVAL of SMOKE/FUMES procedure.

Note for A330/A340: When necessary, the REMOVAL OF SMOKE/FUMES procedure must be applied before
the electrical emergency configuration is set, since manual control of cabin pressure cannot be selected in
electrical emergency configuration, i.e. removal of smoke cannot be performed.

When all the specific actions have been unsuccessful:

 The purpose is to shed as much electrical equipment as possible and


thus try to isolate smoke source(s).

 The objective is to remain in ELEC EMER CONFIG until latest stage


of the flight and to restore some electrical generation a few minutes
before landing.
