System Firmware Update Instructions for Pioneer In-dash DVD (touch-screen) Receivers

Applicable Models: AVH-X1790DVD, AVH-X2790BT, AVH-X4790DVD & AVH-X5790BT

 Firmware update (version 8.31) applies only to the above models of Pioneer DVD Receivers sold in the India
 Any attempt to update any other models than the mentioned models may result in permanent damage to the head
unit, which will not be covered under warranty.

IMPORTANT

Please download and print these Firmware Update instructions before downloading & installing the firmware
update. It is important that you complete all steps correctly and in the order described below.

Requirement

In order to perform this update, the following items are needed:

 Pioneer In-dash Multimedia DVD receiver listed above.

 A blank USB storage device (no files), 2 GB or larger in capacity, formatted to FAT32.

CAUTION

 DO NOT turn your unit off the engine or disconnect the USB storage device while the firmware is being
updated.
 You can only update the firmware when the vehicle is stopped and the parking brake is engaged.
 Please re-confirm the model being updated is as per the models list mentioned above.
Checking the firmware version

Check whether the firmware of your unit needs to be updated by checking the version number of the firmware.

PROCEDURE

1. Start the vehicle engine.


2. Press the [Home] button.
3. Touch the [AV source] & touch [Off] to source Off.

4. Touch the [Setting] icon.


5. Select [System information] for select menu of system setting.

6. Select [Firmware information].

7. Confirm current version of the product.


(If the firmware version shows “8.31” or higher, no further action is necessary.)

A. Downloading the Firmware Update Files

1. Download the firmware update files by clicking on the following link:


http://pioneer-india.in/support/download/

2. Extract the download file.


The Downloaded zip file will produce the following file when decompressed:
PEH440D.AVH
B. Updating the Firmware on Your Unit

IMPORTANT -- Applicable models -- AVH-X5790BT / AVH-X4790DVD / AVH-X3790BT / AVH-X1790DVD

 DO NOT perform this firmware update if the model number of your Pioneer DVD Receiver is anything other
than one of the above models.
 Ensure that the update file is located within the root (top) folder of your USB storage device. There should be
no other files within the USB storage device.
 While your unit is being updated, DO NOT turn off the system’s power and DO NOT touch the unit’s
touchscreen as this may result in severe damage to your unit.
 DO NOT remove the USB storage device during the firmware update process.
 Disconnect any external mobile devices that are currently connected to your unit.

PROCEDURE

1. Connect a blank (formatted) USB storage device to your computer, and then locate and copy the
PEH440D.AVH file onto the USB storage device.
2. Start the vehicle engine.
3. Connect the USB storage device to the USB input on your unit.
4. Press the [Home] button.
5. Touch the [AV source] & touch [Off] to turn-off the source.

6. Touch [Setting] icon.

7. Select [System information] to select the system setting menu.

8. Select [Firmware Update].


9. Touch [Continue].

10. Read the “WARNING,” then touch the [Start] button to start the update process. If it shows “ERROR” on
the display, try another USB device.

11. After starting, there will be a progress bar while updating.


12. Display will show “It succeeded…” when the update is complete.

13. The product will reboot after the update is finished. Do not touch anything even when the screen is
blacked out. After it has finished rebooting, the screen will return to the menu screen.

14. The firmware update is now complete. Your Pioneer DVD Receiver is now ready for use.
