Performance Analysis of Free Space Optical Communication Systems Under Diverse Atmospheric Conditions
This study investigates the simulation of a Free Space Optical (FSO) communication
system under varying atmospheric conditions to assess its performance in real-world
environments. FSO technology offers high-speed, wireless optical communication, making it a
promising solution for applications that demand high data rates and secure transmission.
However, its performance is highly susceptible to atmospheric conditions such as fog, rain, and
turbulence, which can degrade signal quality.
Using OptiSystem software, this work simulates an FSO link incorporating realistic
atmospheric models to analyze the impact of different weather conditions on system
parameters, including Bit Error Rate (BER), Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), and received power.
Results reveal how adverse conditions affect signal integrity and suggest potential mitigation
techniques, such as power control and adaptive modulation, to enhance FSO system reliability.
This simulation provides valuable insights for designing robust FSO systems capable of
maintaining performance in diverse environmental settings.
