Lesson Objectives

• Grammar Goal: Understand and use the Present Simple Tense


in affirmative, negative, and interrogative forms.
• Speaking Goal: Practice discussing daily routines and common
activities.
• Activity Goal: Engage in role-play exercises to simulate real-life
conversations about daily routines.
Overview of Present Simple Tense

• Definition: Used to express habits, routines, general facts, and


truths.
• Key Points:
o Describes actions that are repeated regularly or generally true.
o Structure varies for affirmative, negative, and interrogative forms.
• Examples:
o “I play tennis on weekends.”
o “She doesn’t like coffee.”
o “Do you go to the gym?”
Affirmative Sentences

• Structure: Subject + Base Verb (+s/es for he/she/it)


• Examples:
o “He works at a bank.”
o “They enjoy cooking.”
o “She studies French.”
• Usage Tips: Remember to add -s or -es for third-person singular (he,
she, it).
Negative Sentences

• Structure: Subject + Do/Does + Not + Base Verb


• Examples:
o “I do not (don’t) watch TV.”
o “He does not (doesn’t) like tea.”
o “They do not (don’t) travel often.”
• Usage Tips: Use does not for he, she, it; and do not for other
subjects.
Interrogative Sentences

• Structure: Do/Does + Subject + Base Verb?


• Examples:
o “Do you play soccer?”
o “Does she drive to work?”
o “Do they visit often?”
• Usage Tips: Start with Do or Does, depending on the subject.
Role-Play Activity - “A Day in the Life”

• Activity Overview: Pair up and discuss daily routines using Present


Simple Tense.
• Instructions:
1. Partner A asks Partner B about their daily routine.
2. Use affirmative, negative, and interrogative forms.
3. Switch roles and repeat.
• Example Dialogue:
o A: “What time do you wake up?”
o B: “I wake up at 7 am. I don’t eat breakfast, but I have coffee.”
o A: “Do you go to work by bus?”
Common Daily Routines Vocabulary

• Useful Verbs: wake up, eat, go, work, study, play, sleep, etc.
• Example Routines:
o “I go for a run every morning.”
o “She studies in the library after class.”
o “They play soccer on weekends.”
• Interactive Component: Encourage students to come up with other
daily activities and routines to add to the vocabulary list.
Speaking Practice Activity

• Activity Name: Sharing Routines


• Instructions:
1. Students pair up and ask each other about their daily routines.
2. Each student must ask at least one affirmative, one negative,
and one interrogative question.
3. Partners answer using the Present Simple Tense.
• Example Dialogue:
o “Do you exercise every day?” – “Yes, I exercise in the evening.”
o “I don’t read newspapers often. What about you?”
