ABOUT SCHEME
About scheme : Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana
(PMKSY), is a central sector scheme by the Indian
government aimed at creating a comprehensive food
processing and preservation infrastructure, from farm
gate to retail. Implemented by the Ministry of Food
Processing Industries (MoFPI), this scheme is
structured to reduce wastage, improve food supply
chain efficiency, increase farmer income, and create
employment opportunities.

OBJECTIVES OF PMSKY
Reduce Wastage: Minimize wastage of perishables by
strengthening cold chain and processing facilities.

Increase Farmer Income: Provide farmers with improved


access to markets, value addition, and better price
realization.

Boost Export Potential: Develop globally competitive


products and enhance India’s share in global food trade.

Employment Generation: Create more jobs in rural areas


through food processing initiatives.

Enhance Food Supply Chain Efficiency: Improve storage,


distribution, and processing infrastructure to ensure
efficient and timely supply of food products.

MAJOR COMPONENTS OF PMSKY
Mega Food Parks
Objective: Establish well-equipped food processing units with
modern infrastructure in designated food parks.

Features: Includes central processing centers, cold storage,


packaging facilities, and transportation networks.

Financial Assistance : Up to 50% of the total project cost in


general areas, and up to 75% in difficult and remote areas (North-
Eastern states, Himalayan regions).

Maximum grant of ₹50 crore per project.

Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure


Objective: Strengthen the cold chain infrastructure to ensure
minimal wastage and timely delivery of perishable products.

Features: Financial assistance is provided for pre-cooling facilities,


refrigerated transportation, and frozen storage.

Up to 35% of the total project cost in general areas, and up to 50% in


North-Eastern and difficult areas.

Maximum financial assistance of ₹10 crore per project to develop


cold storage, processing facilities, and transportation systems.

Creation and Expansion of Food Processing and
Preservation Capacities (CEFPPC)

Objective: Create new food processing units and expand the


capacity of existing ones.

Features: Focuses on setting up or upgrading units for processing


fruits, vegetables, dairy products, seafood, etc.

Financial Assistance : Up to 35% of the eligible project cost in general


areas and up to 50% in difficult areas.

Maximum grant of ₹5 crore per unit, supporting expansion or


creation of food processing units.

Infrastructure for Agro-processing Clusters

Objective: Set up clusters with infrastructure facilities for storage,


primary processing, and transportation.

Features: Includes support for warehouses, grading, sorting facilities,


and other processing infrastructure.

Financial support of up to 35% of the eligible project cost for


infrastructure in agro-processing clusters, facilitating storage,
grading, sorting, and packaging facilities.

Maximum grant of ₹10 crore per cluster.

Creation of Backward and Forward Linkages
Objective: Build a strong link between farmers, processors, and
markets to streamline the supply chain.

Features: Support for primary processing facilities near farms, as


well as storage and transport networks to link farmers to processing
units.
Financial assistance : 35% of the project cost is provided for
backward (linking farmers to processing facilities) and forward
linkages (linking processing units to markets).

Financial assistance can go up to ₹5 crore for establishing primary


processing centers, collection centers, and storage facilities near
production areas.

Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure


Objective: Promote quality and safety in food production by meeting
international standards.

Features: Assistance is provided for setting up labs, food testing


units, and compliance facilities.

Financial support for establishing labs, food testing units, and other
quality compliance facilities.

Up to 50% grant in general areas and up to 75% in difficult areas for


projects aiming to meet international food safety and quality
standards. 6
Human Resources and Institutions
Objective: Provide skill development and training in food
processing to ensure skilled manpower.

Features: Focus on skill development, research, and


entrepreneurship development in the food processing sector.
