ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Acknowledge everyone who helped you.

ABSTRACT

Your abstract is simply a short summary of the work (500 words maximum). An
abstract describes what you do in your project. It should help your reader understand
the report. To write an abstract, type a summary that identifies the aim, problem,
methods, and most important results of your work.

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

Use Style “Heading 1” to write the chapter title, use capital letters to start the
principal words; do not use capital letters for prepositions, articles or conjunctions
unless one is the first word. You will notice that the chapter title will appear all
capital but in the Table of Contents it will appear as written. For the body text, use
the style “Normal”.

Use Heading 2 for the level 2 section title.

1.1 Background

Your background should provide a context for the project and should describe any
important information your reader needs to know to understand what has been done.
All components of the study should be introduced here in a general context without
relating to the current project.

1.2 Problem Statement

The problem statement tells your reader why the study is performed and what
problem is addressed.

1.2.1 Level 3 Section

Use Heading 3 for the level 3 section title.

Figures must be centered. The figures must be “inline with text”.

For the figure caption, use one of the 2 methods below:

 Select the figure, right click and select “Insert Caption …”, then select the
label “Figure”.

1
 Copy and paste an existing caption from this template. Select and press
F9 to update.

Make sure to mention all figures/tables within the text using the Cross-reference tool
available in the INSERT tab. In the “Cross-reference” window, select the Reference
type (figure, table, heading, equation, etc.). Finally select “Insert reference to: Only
label and number”. For example, the operation of the hydraulic press machine is
illustrated in Figure 1.1.

Figure 1.1 Hydraulic press machine [1]

For tables, the recommended style is shown in Table 1.1. Most of the time, tables do
not require colour.

2
Figure captions should be below the figures; table heads should appear above the
tables. Insert figures and tables after they are cited in the text.

All figures and tables need to be referred to and explained in the text.

1.2.1.1Level 4 Section

Use Heading 4 for the level 4 section title.

Equations and formulae should be typed clearly by using an appropriate equation

editor and numbered according to its sequence of order within the chapter. For
example, in Chapter 1, the first equation should be Equation 1.1; in Chapter 3, the
first equation should be Equation 3.1. Below is an example of writing an equation:

I prev (i , j)+I fut (i , j)

I ip (i , j)=
2
(1.1)

Equation numbers, within parentheses, are to position flush right.

1.2.1.1.1 Level 5 Section

Use Heading 5 for the level 5 section title.

3
CHAPTER 2 APPLICABLE STANDARDS AND

REALISTIC CONSTRAINTS

2.1 Applicable Standards

The standards and codes considered in the design should be listed here.

2.2 Realistic Constraints

The realistic design parameters and constraints, such as physical constraints,

economics, environmental factors, sustainability, manufacturability, health and
safety, ethical concerns, social concerns, and political factors, should also be
presented in this section.

4
CHAPTER 3 KEY COMPONENTS

3.1 Aim

Here, the aim of the project is presented. The aim describes the purpose and includes
a description of your motivation for undertaking the work.

3.2 Deliverables

In this section, you should list the technical deliverables of your project in bullets.
Deliverables relate to the expected outcomes of the project.

3.3 Project Plan

In this section, you should illustrate, using a chart, the relationship among the
different key components and how they are interrelated in order to achieve the
goal(s) of the project.

5
APPENDIX A MINUTES OF MEETINGS

Include the minutes of meetings using the template uploaded on iConnect.

6
APPENDIX B MANAGING REFERENCES

Select the IEEE style: Main menu  References  Citations and Bibliography:
Select the style is IEEE.

To cite a new reference, go to Reference Tab  Insert Citation  select “add new
source”

Add the appropriate fields, example:

To add the citation number in the text, Reference Tab  Insert Citation  select the
desired source.

Do not forget to select all (Ctrl+a) and then update field codes F9 to make sure your
changes get propagated.
