Dear sir/madam,

Sub: Request for replacement of defective refrigerator

This is about a Glacier refrigerator (model: GR360; size:175-litre;color: blue) that I

bought from your showroom on 30 December 2020( copy of bill enclosed).

Ever since it was delivered on 2 January, the fridge has not been working. Even when set
out maximum, the inside temperature remains close to just 20 degrees Celsius. Water in
the ice tray does not freeze, and food kept in the fridge spoils in a day.

Your showroom has a reputation for both quality and reliability, and so I am certain that
this is only a chance happening. Could you replace the defective refrigerator with a new
piece in the same model, size and colour, please.

Yours faithfully,

Subject: Complaint regarding late delivery of letters
Sir,
This is to bring to your kind notice that the beat postman of our area is not performing his
duties well. He never delivers our letters, money orders, parcels etc. on time. He visits
only once a week and delivers the letters of the whole week that day. As a result of his
careless attitude towards duties, we often get deprived of the important information of
marriage, death, etc. of our relatives and friends.
Several times people could not reach on time to attend the interview or join service due
to the negligence on the part of the postman. We have repeatedly requested him to be
regular and deliver the letter on time but he pays no heed to our requests.
I sincerely request you to personally enquire into the matter and take immediate action
for the redressal of our grievances.

Letter to the Editor

Newspapers, weeklies and magazines play an important role in shaping public

opinion, public minds and decisions about many national and international issues
because they have a large number of readers. Writing letters to the editors is a
great way to engage with a topic you are passionate about and to influence public
opinion. These letters are written to shape public opinion, to share information
and ideas, to increase awareness, to advocate your cause or to start community
conversation. It is a written way of talking to a newspaper or magazine. It takes a
position for or against an issue or simply inform or both.

Subject: Increasing cases of road accidents, rash driving and overcrowding

Sir
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to express the anguish of
the general public over the increasing number of road accidents, cases of rash
driving and the problem of overcrowding in the buses.
The bus drivers have no regard for the traffic rules. They drive vary rash under the
influence of liquors. They even jump the red light signals installed on the roads.
Still the private bus operators stop at unauthorized stops. The uncontrollable speed
and race with other buses is the main cause of accidents. They even overtake the
other buses for picking up more passengers. The conductors pack their buses to
suffocation. As a result, ladies and old people are unable to get into the buses.
It requires stricter watch on the part of the traffic police. More traffic police should
be employed to check the violations of the traffic rules. Proper road signals and
road marks should be marked. The surprise check by traffic police in civil dress
can play an effective role in booking the culprits.

Emails are modern-age letters. This article explains the format of email writing and
also gives you sample emails for students of working professionals.
How to Write an Email?
Email writing is an essential part of professional communication. It is not easy to
get people to respond to your emails if they do not feel interested in your message
or proposal. This is exactly the reason why you should learn to write good emails.
Be bold. Get to the point right away. The best email communication is the one that
is simple and clear.
There are a few tips you have to keep in mind when you sit down to write emails.
Emails can be casual or professional, just like informal and formal letters. The
format of the email changes according to the kind of email you are writing.
However, accurate grammar and spelling are aspects that are to be taken seriously.
When you start writing an email,

 Make sure you type in the right email ID. Always check with the receiver for
the exact email address because even a full stop that is not part of the
email address can land your email with the wrong person, or the mail
would simply bounce.
 The Subject line is the next most important factor you should carefully
consider because that is the first thing anyone receiving the email would
see. It also determines if the receiver would want to open the mail. ‘The
from line is what recipients use to determine whether to delete an email.
The subject line is what motivates people to actually open the email.’ said
Loren McDonald. Spend double the time you spend on drafting the body to
draft the subject.
 See to it that your Salutation or Greeting is appropriate to the receiver/s.
The greeting builds a rapport.
 The Body of the email states what the email is about. Be clear with what you
want your receiver to know. Make sure you have everything you want to
convey drafted in simple terms. Do not use colloquial language or long
unwinding sentences. Try not to repeat words or use cliched terms. Make
your message positive, even if you’re turning down an offer. If you have to
follow, do it before they remind you to. Keep it short. Use standard font
style and size. Do a final spelling/grammar check/proofread.
 Finally, Sign off the email on a polite note and proofread it before hitting
send. The closing should feel genuine; only then will the receiver want to
respond.

EMAIL WRITING

Email writing is an essential skill in today's digital age. Here are some tips to
help you write effective emails:
 Clear subject line: Concise and relevant to the content.
Formal greeting: Use titles (Mr./Ms./Mrs./Dr.) and last names until invited
to use first names.
 Clear purpose: State the purpose in the first paragraph.
 Concise body: Use simple language, short paragraphs, and bullet points
when necessary.
 Proper formatting: Use headings, bold text, and white space for readability.
 Professional tone: Avoid jargon, slang, and overly technical language.
 Proofread: Check spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
 Include a call-to-action: Clearly state what action you want the recipient to
take.
 Use a professional sign-off: "Best regards" or "Sincerely" work well.
 Include your contact information: Make it easy for the recipient to
respond or contact you.
