Conduits and cable tray.

Conduit requirements
o Electrical metallic tubing (EMT) well be used for indoor installation.

o The minimum conduit size shall be 20mm. Conduits shall have an internal
diameter not less than 1.4 times the effective diameter of the cable
bundle, with a minimum of 20mm
o Steel conduits shall withstand corrosion and oxidation. Screw connector
and screw coupling shall be used only for conduit surface mounted.
o Compressor connector and compressor coupling concrete tight shall be
used for conduit flush mounted. The conduits and plastic encased shall
comply with the reference codes and standards where applicable and shall
be of self-extinguishing type. Plastic conduit that may be liable to damage
during erection shall be of the heavy-duty type able to withstand a
compression of 75 daN.

Cable tray requirements


o Cable trays shall be ladder and grilled type. Cable tray or ladder racks
supported from structures shall be used for overhead cable runs. All cable
trays/ladders shall be laid in horizontal formation supported at not more
than 3m.
o The working load for cable trays shall consist of the weight of the cables
(or tubing, etc.) including future additions (if required), plus a
concentrated static load of 90 Dan at the centre of the span.
o Mechanical and electrical continuity of all cables trays/ladders shall be
maintained; for this reason, a bare copper wire shall be erected along the
route envelope of the trays, of minimum 16 mm2, in order to guarantee
metallic and earthing continuity.
o Number of cables in the trays shall be limited to two layers,

o 25% space shall be provided in each Cable tray/ladder for future use.
Cable trays/ladders/ covers shall be heavy duty, hot dip galvanized after
fabrication to 85 microns Zinc coating. Any damaged paint surface of the
cable trays shall be retouched before and after laying any cables.
o Cable tray/ladder covers shall be provided where cables are likely to be
exposed to direct sunlight and mechanical damage is likely to occur during
plant maintenance activities.
o The covers shall be arranged so as not to confine the heat generated by
radiation from the cables and the cover. Rungs for the cable ladders shall
be welded to the side rails. Thickness of steel used for fabrication of cable
tray/ladder/covers shall be 2 mm minimum.
