● Demonstrates your country’s perspective on the topic.
● Helps you understand your country better
● Organize your country’s stance into main arguments after research

Structure
1. Background Information
● Set the context
● What has happened recently?
● Any statistics?

2. Your Country’s Issues


● Any event in your country that is relevant to the topic?
● Emphasize on the severity of the problem happening in your
country
3. Country’s Policies & International Actions
● What’s your country’s viewpoints
○ Identified through news sources & interviews
● Country policies? International policies?
● Evaluate the effectiveness of the policies
● Any statistics?

4. Suggested Solutions
● Take from previous policies
● Might come up with your own
● Remember to take the country’s stance into account
No Plagiarism

● NO copying word-for-word
● Even if you’ve put them in citation marks, you must cite them
● How to cite?
○ Use MLA 8th citation
○ https://www.citationmachine.net/mla/cite-a-website
○ Manually check the article’s name, author’s name, and date published
Tips for Position Paper
● Clear and concise language
● Use the full name of an acronym in the first mention
● Third-person language → No ‘I’ or ‘We’
● The term “Member States” is preferred over “Countries” or
“Nations”
● Always include the Year of any resolutions or treaties

1. Heading
● Introduces briefly what the
Draft Resolution is about and
who are the writers

● Structure:

1. Committee
2. Main Submitter - Co-Submitter / Sponsors - Signatories
3. Topic
● Remember to write your country’s official name.

○ e.g. the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan instead of just Afghanistan

2. Preambulatory Clauses
● 2 types of info needed:

○ Past solutions for the problem

■ UN resolutions, treaties, conventions,

■ Solutions countries or companies have tried,

■ What the UN has said in the past,

■ Any facts, figures, their significance and impact.

○ Mention different aspects of the topic that needs to be addressed

● Include statistics and specific names (from which organizations)

○ All of the clauses end with


a comma (,)

○ The verb at the beginning


of the clause must be in
gerund form (-ing) and
italicized

● A clause can have no sub-clause. But if there are


sub-clauses, there should be more than 1.

● Minimum: 7 operative clauses

Resolution Formatting

● Operative Command terms must be underlined and bold


● Operative Clauses must be numbered (1,2,3 …) and each clause end
with a semicolon ( ; )
● Operative sub-clauses must be lettered (a,b,c …) and Operative
sub-sub-clauses must be lettered (i,ii,iii ...)
● The last Operative Clause must end with a period, which is the only
period in your resolution ( . )
Tips for Draft Resolution
● Check Spelling & Grammar
● Check Formatting (bold, italicized, comma?)
● Clauses and sub-clauses are numbered correctly
● No hanging sub-clause
● Minimum 7 operative clauses
