AFRICAN SAFARI

Hi! My name is Matt and I am from Brighton, England. Right now, my family and I are in South
Africa. We are on a one-week safari in Kruger National Park. Safaris are special trips to see animals in the wild.
We wake up at 5.00 a.m. every morning and we start our day with a cup of strong tea and then go on
a morning safari. It isn’t very hot in the morning, so it’s a perfect time to see many animals. We always
drive near a river, where elephants, zebras, giraffes and even lions come to drink some water.
Our driver and guide is Tom. Tom is young and clever and he always knows where to look for animals. He
is very friendly and he can speak both English and Zulu.
After morning safaris, we eat a delicious breakfast. There are always sausages, fried eggs, fried tomatoes,
bread and tea. After breakfast it is time to rest, read or meet the local people. I really like visiting the local
school and playing football with my new African friends. I often have some sweets or small gifts for them.
Because the days are very hot, African animals usually rest during the morning and afternoon. They
become active again in the evening and at night.
Every day, at 5.00 p.m. we have a big and tasty dinner and then we go off on a long safari. We drive to
many places in the park and look for some of the amazing animals that live here. If we are lucky, we see
a leopard sleeping in a tree. Leopards are really amazing animals.
The evening safaris finish at 9 p.m. After that we sit around the camp fire, have a light supper and talk
about Africa. At 10 p.m. we have a wash and go to bed.
South Africa is a really fascinating place.
