II. NARRATIVE REPORT

A. INTRODUCTION

Industrial Training is a program requirement providing an

opportunity to not only apply the theories, principles, and ideas learned in
the academe but also to enhance the technical knowledge, skills, and
attitudes of students towards work necessary for satisfactory job
performance. Industrial Training provides the drive for the students to
understand and appreciate real- life working experiences. Students may
recognize their career path and future employment goals from experiences
gained during industrial training. The On-the-Job-Training/ Industrial
Training provides students the opportunity to meet and network with
people in the industry, the opportunity to identify talents and potential
skilled workers.

The course outcomes are:

1. Apply their engineering knowledge to real industry experience.

2. Be analytical and critical in thinking and exercise sound judgment
in problem solving.
3. Be aware of safety procedures and protocols at work.
4. Collaborate and foster professional working relationships with
supervisors and colleagues.
5. Absorb organizational skills and job skills.
6. Be able to work under direction and supervision.
7. Improve their communication skills.

COMPANY/INSTITUTION/ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

On January 2, 1978 Aljeann Auto Supply Motor & Works was founded by
Roosevelt M. Segundo as a retailer of auto parts. Now, it has become one of the
largest auto supplies in Region 1 which no one ever imagined making this far. In
2006, Alvin C. Segundo took over the reins of Aljeann Auto Supply & Motor
Works. After more than 30 years of genuine service in auto supply, the company
is poised to expand the business through the founding and launching of Auto Lab
Car Care Center on May 26, 2010. Through this expansion, they have continued
to deliver their best services in the automobile industry.
C. CLASSROOM LEARNINGS/ THEORIES USED DURING OJT

During my month-long internship at Auto Lab Car Care Center in Sevilla,

City of San Fernando, La Union, I fully immersed myself in applying the
automotive theories I learned during university lectures. This advanced auto shop
is highly respected for its expertise in repairing and maintaining vehicles, and it
provided me with invaluable insights into a wide range of mechanical systems and
essential equipment operation.

Throughout my experience, I learned the importance of maintaining a

positive attitude and building effective relationships in the workplace. Guided by
experienced mentors with over a decade of automotive experience each, I
acquired crucial skills. From mastering the use of impact wrenches for removing

23
nuts and bolts to understanding the different tool sizes needed for tasks like using
sockets and combination tools, each day brought new challenges and learning
opportunities.

My practical tasks varied from basic maintenance like cleaning brake pads
and changing engine oil, which were foundational practices, to more complex
projects such as transmission removal. The latter required a team effort due to the
weight and complexity of the transmission systems involved. I also developed
skill in wheel bearing repacking, a vital lubrication procedure that ensures optimal
performance of vehicle axles and wheels. Understanding the role of shock
absorbers in providing a smooth ride showed the importance of their regular
inspection and replacement. Additionally, I improved my skills in wheel
balancing and alignment using advanced tools like the Hunter Hawkeye Wheel
Aligner, essential for improving vehicle safety and efficiency. Beyond technical
skills, I delved into the differences between types of engine oil and their
specifications, crucial for enhancing engine performance and longevity. This
knowledge helped me to make decisions when selecting oil based on factors such
as engine type, climate conditions, and operational requirements, thus
contributing to overall vehicle reliability and efficiency.

As the first woman to intern at Auto Lab Car Care Center, I deeply
appreciated the inclusive and supportive environment that shattered gender
stereotypes in the mechanical engineering field. This experience not only
strengthened my passion for automotive mechanics but also underscored the
importance of diversity and inclusion in every aspect of industry.

My internship at Auto Lab Car Care Center was a transformative journey

that not only deepened my understanding of automotive mechanics but also
highlighted the significance of applying theoretical knowledge in practical
settings. It provided me with a solid foundation to build my career and reinforced
the values of professionalism, collaboration, and lifelong learning.

D. ISSUES AND CONCERNS ABOUT THE COMPANY

The workplace faces significant challenges concerning incomplete

personal protective equipment (PPE) and occasional lapses in safety practices
among employees. Instances have been noted where employees are not wearing
all required PPE items, such as gloves, goggles, helmets, or respiratory protection,
leaving them vulnerable to potential hazards and accidents.

E. RECOMMENDATIONS TO IMPROVE THE COMPANY

Improve training and awareness. This means creating clear and engaging
training sessions that explain why wearing protective gear and following safety
rules are so important. Hands-on demonstrations and regular refreshers can make
sure everyone knows how to use equipment correctly and keeps safety in mind.
Also, enforce safety rules consistently. This includes clearly stating the
consequences for not following safety procedures and keeping an eye on high-risk
areas to correct any unsafe behaviors right away. By focusing on these
areas—training, availability of equipment, and strict enforcement of safety

24
rules—they can create a safer workplace where everyone feels protected and
knows how to stay safe on the job.

F. SUMMARY OF THE OJT EXPERIENCE ACCOMPLISHED DURING

OJT
My On-the-Job Training (OJT) began on June 17, 2024, starting exactly at
9 am. The supervisor, Mr. Rex Bernardo Jr., oriented us about the company’s rules
and regulations, such as wearing work shoes, pants, and a comfortable shirt. He
then introduced us to the auto mechanics and assigned each of the four of us to a
mentor. The first day was the hardest as there were many vehicles lined up for
repair.
The first task I performed was using an impact wrench, a tool used to
remove nuts and bolts from a wheel. Afterwards, I was taught how to remove
brake calipers and brake pads and how to clean them using abrasive paper. I also
learned to use a torque wrench to ensure the nuts and bolts were properly
tightened. In the afternoon, we repacked bearings, one of the hardest tasks
because of the grease and various types of bearings we had to handle. The next
day, we learned how to use lead in a wheel, the purpose of engine oil and how to
change it, and how to use a wheel alignment machine. From June 19 to June 22,
we performed tasks such as changing rack and pinion, wheel balancing,
calibration, tire changes using a machine, brake pad replacement, wheel
alignment, transmission system removal, and gear oil checking.
During week 2, from June 24 to June 29, we tackled new tasks like pulling
down rack and pinion assemblies, fixing overheating caused by hose leakage, and
changing steering fluid, brake fluid, and coolant. We became accustomed to
simpler tasks, which our mentors allowed us to perform under supervision. In
week 3, from July 1 to July 6, we repeated the tasks from the first two weeks,
making this week a bit easier. We also became closer to other auto mechanics
besides our mentors and participated in test drives to ensure the vehicles were
properly fixed.
Week 4, from July 8 to July 13, was one of the most stressful weeks. We
were assigned to fix a van with a leakage problem originating from the oil pump.
We had to remove numerous parts, including the engine support, to replace the oil
pump, and we spent three days on this vehicle. In week 5, we mainly performed
simple, repetitive tasks such as changing brake pads and brake shoes, cleaning
them, and changing engine oil. During my last three days, from July 22 to July 24,
we worked on tasks like pulling down the transmission, changing the clutch disc,
and replacing the CV boot. Overall, the experience and knowledge I gained
during this training were significant and will undoubtedly be valuable in my
future career.
