drama and real life spectacle. Among these, “Big Boss”, an Indian adaptation of
Dutch reality show “Big Brother”, has emerged as cultural phenomenon, offering
viewers a gawking glimpse into the lives of its participants. However, beneath the
veneer of entertainment. “Big Boss” has been subject of increasing scrutiny for its
potential psychological and societal repercussions.
2. Its been few days since celeb inmates have been locked up for a well rated public-
view- Big Boss 18. This show got the eyeballs thanks to a queer mix of participants
who can bicker at the drop of a hat. But an attempt to get a professional
psychoanalyse the 18 “Big Boss” inmates revealed that the reality show is on the
hate list of almost entire fraternity. “I would not recommend the show to anyone.
Being confined in a house brings out the worst in everyone and the audience
seems to be enjoying this”, said a city based psychiatrist.

3. The show has adapted its name and its core concept from the Masterpiece of
Geoge Orwell- 1984, where Big Brother is the character and the symbol, an

the Indian audience so stressed that we have reduced our self to watching
negativity of other people’s lives for entertainment or have we lost purpose in our
lives?
4. The concept of “Big Boss” seems to be something like what was practised in
prisons in the olden days where people were confined to a restricted place and left
alone without any activities, which pushed them to be frustrated and hence break
down emotionally. Adding that the emotional drama, due to constant negative
reaction, gossip, conflicts etc is what makes this show popular.
