EVANGELISM

INTRODUCTION

The Kingdom of God is a kingdom of light, as opposed to the darkness of Satan’s

kingdom. God is Light (1 John 1:5), and so is His kingdom. The very nature of light is that, it’s
outgoing. Light is diffusive, penetrating, searching; light spreads itself over space and fills all
things. God’s Kingdom is like this. It is the very nature of God and His Kingdom to spread and
expose all areas of darkness.

In Mark 16:15-16, Jesus says,

“Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been
baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.”

Verse 15 is a command to penetrate the whole world for the advancement of God’s Kingdom
by preaching the Gospel. One notable question (of God) in the Book of Isaiah is: “Whom shall I
send?” If the passage is so called the “Great Commission,” the answer to that question is also
“great.” To whom shall God send? Who will go and preach the Gospel? Now, in this age of
materialism, who will say “Is it I Lord?” Is it you?

Some say, they were not called to it, but God said to them, “Go into all the world and
preach the Gospel! So, this is a mandate to all “believing” disciples. It is an order of the Captain
of Salvation to all- both young and old, and those who were called (full time ministers) and who
were not. Since this is the case, it is not strange that the Church of Jesus Christ would be
involved in evangelism.

So, the purpose of this material is fourfold:

1. It serves as a “mirror” to see your real purpose in life,

2. It serves as a “roadmap” to your quest on personal maturity,
3. It serves as a “book” of basic instruction for learning, and,
4. It serves as a “tool” to win souls.

May this material open you to a more wonderful experience with the Living Christ!
1 THE MANDATE OF EVANGELISM
LESS EXPLAINED
ON
______________________________________________________________________________

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 9: 16-20

Background Passages: Matthew 28:19, 20; Mark 16:15-19; 2 Timothy 1:8-9, 11-12; 2 Tim.
4: 1-5

Teaching Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each one will:

1. Define what evangelism is,

2. Recognize that evangelism is necessary, and
3. Respond to the call to evangelize.

Main Teaching: Jesus is compassionate to the unsaved.

Emphasis: All must respond to the call of evangelization.

Development of the Study:

The Church must open its eyes, understand the times we live and reach out to the lost
with the same passion the Apostle had. He felt indebted to all people and that he had to give
them the message of the Lord Jesus Christ. After Paul’s spiritual eyes were opened, he was able
to see the truth about spiritual life. He saw two paths human beings are walking on- one of
salvation and the other of perdition. The great majority of people are going down the wrong
path. He understood that the mission God entrusted to him was that we may call “the
impossible mission.” Since then, he accepted the challenge and made a great effort to take the
Gospel to the ends of the earth. Because of this, those believers who caught the mission came
to be known as “those who turned the world upside down.”

In the message he sent to his spiritual son Timothy, he said,

“So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord or ashamed of me His prisoner. But join with
me in suffering for the Gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy
life not because of anything we have done, but because of His own purpose and grace. This
grace was given to us by Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. And of this Gospel, I was
appointed a herald, and an apostle and a teacher. That is why; I am suffering as I am. Yet, I am
not ashamed because I know whom I believed, and I am convinced the He is able to guard what
I have entrusted to Him for that day (2 Tim. 8-9, 11-12).

He charged him emphatically to:

1. To preach the Gospel,
2. Be prepared in season or out of season,
3. Be sober in all things,
4. Endure afflictions,
5. Do the work of an evangelist, and
6. To fulfill his ministry (2 Tim. 4: 1-5).

With the above mandates, in this lesson, we’ll define what evangelism means.

EVANGELISM MEANING

1. The Greek word from which we get our English word evangelism simply means:

a. To tell, or
b. To announce the Good News to the lost.

This is the one and only Good News in this world of darkness which is the light of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. (Foundational Truth, 1973)

2. Passages that point out the word evangelism (G12 Manual, Ps. Alex Isaguirre).

a. Evangelism is giving what we have received. In Isaiah 52:3, it says, “You were
sold for nothing and without money redeemed you will be.” This means that
salvation is a gift from God. They don’t need to pay anything.

b. Evangelism announces peace. Restoration of homes, finances, health and for

every area of life. This is a message of peace to anyone who believes.

c. Evangelism announces salvation. Salvation means taking the people out of

spiritual crisis and assures them of hope.

d. Evangelism is the proclamation of Good news. Goodness is the thing. We do not

preach condemnation. We give them hope so that they will know that the
answer to their needs is in the Gospel and Jesus is the solution.

e. Evangelism is the proclamation of deliverance (Mark 5: 1-20).

f. Evangelism is the proclamation that God reigns. Mark 1:15

g. Evangelism is a privilege of serving the Master. Matt. 25:14-30

h. Evangelism is an expression of one’s faith. Isaiah 52:7; Heb. 11:6

THE MANDATE
The Great Commission in evangelism is not a theory just to be familiar with, or a
teaching at the ear. With the passages mentioned earlier show a mandate to be done. A
mandate is a command, a decree, an order, a directive to be acted upon from a person with
authority.

1. Jesus’ 12 disciples.
Matthew 28:18, 19, Jesus said to His disciples, “All power is given unto Me in heaven
and on earth. Go ye, therefore, and make disciples… “
In Mark 16: 15, again, Jesus said, “Go ye into all the world…..”

2. The 120 believers gathered in the Upper Room. Acts 1:7, 8

3. Timothy (2 Ti. 4:5). Paul charged him to do the work of an evangelist.

4. All believers of Jesus Christ- the Church. They are the new generation of Jesus’
disciples who will continue and carry out the responsibility of soul winning. Aside
from the abilities God has given, this work is a work common to all for the purpose
of winning the lost or unsaved, not for a few.

THE NECESSITY

With the above mentioned statements, the commandment of Christ should be an

“urgent” compliance. Those passages signify “a must” or the “urgent of the hour that needs no
delay.” Let’s look at this:

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore,
beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
Matthew 9:37, 38 (NASB)

Just think about what Jesus said that the harvest is plenteous. Plenteous is many for it
needs more laborers. The ratio in between the harvest and the laborers is not in proportion.
The harvest is higher than the laborers that they cannot harvest all with their minimal number.
By having a closer look, the harvest (souls) Jesus is talking is ripe already, and it needed
to be harvested immediately. If not, all of them will perish. So, sharing the message of the
Gospel should be done now. God’s word says, “Today is the day of salvation.” So, salvation of
loved ones, friends, neighbors, and others is now- no postponement, no delay. It’s really the
“NEED OF THE HOUR.”

ILLUSTRATION

When Jonah was running, refusing to preach and embarked to a place far away from
where God had sent him, while sleeping, a violent storm came and those on the ship feared for
their lives. Each one cried to God for a miracle, but Jonah did not even worry, as if didn’t care
about those that are around. The sailors woke him up and asked: “Why are you sleeping? Cry
out to your God, can’t you see we’re losing our lives?” Jonah 1:4-14

APPLICATION

The response to the call must be obedience, for obedience is better than sacrifice.

CONCLUSION

Evangelism is the heart of God for sinful mankind. It His will for them to be saved. HE
needs the saved mankind to save them with His power. So, only through the believers
commitment, with the power of the Holy Spirit in evangelism can turn their sinful condition to
salvation.
2 THE NECESSITY
LESS OF EVANGELIZATION
ON
Scripture:

Background Passages: Matt. 9:37, 38, Mark 1:15; Rom. 3:23; Rom. 6:23

Teaching Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each one will:

1. identify the necessity of evangelization,

2. feel the necessity of evangelization, and
3. Resolve to be part of evangelization.

Main Teaching: The lost have a desperate condition only Jesus can identify.

Emphasis: Evangelization is now.

Development of the Study:

In the first lesson studied, we saw that God was so compassionate for the lost. He
designed a curriculum, which is evangelism, to reach them all through committed servants.
In this lesson, we’ll tract how and why all life’s chaos became so horrific which lead men
to depravity. We’ll see here how necessity for evangelization and what actions will be made to
solve sinful issues of mankind.

THE FIRST SIN

1. The [first] Adam, who was created in the image of God. He is the Crown of God’s
creation, the apple of God’s eyes. So perfect. Flawless.
2. Because of giving in into temptation (the lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and pride
of life), he fell into sin and brought out from fellowship with God (Gen. 3). He
marred the image of God in which he had been created.

“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so
death spread to all men, because all sinned- for until the Law sin was in the world…...” Rom.
5:12-14

3. His world of light now became a world of darkness because of sin and evil.

ALL HAVE SINNED

Because we are all offspring of Adam, we were made in the image of our Father Adam
(Gen. 5:3). Every man born in the image of Adam was born into the world. Everyone who is
born into this world was born in sin and “brought iniquity (Psa. 51:5; Romans 3:9-12). The Bible
characterized in the following passages:

1. All are children of wrath. Ephesians 2:3

2. All are under condemnation. Rom. 3:19
3. All have rendezvous with death. Heb. 9:27; Romans 5:12
4. All are dead in trespasses and sins. Ephesians 4:18
5. All are hostile to the law of God. Rom. 8:7

THE PENALTY OF SIN

Through Adam’s sin, man has the following conditions:

1. He is depraved. He is used to sin and loves darkness rather than light (John 3:19).

“He who believes in Him is not judged; he who has not believed has been judged already,
because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the
judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light; for
their deeds were evil. John 3:18, 19

2. He is blind. 2 Cor. 4:4; 2 Pet. 1:9

3. He is in bondage. Isa. 52:2b
4. He is lost. Psa. 119:176; Jer. 50:6; Matt. 18:11
5. He is spiritually dead (Romans 3:23; 6: 23a). He is physically alive, but dead
spiritually. Death here is the eternal separation of man from God.

Though, living like normal life, it doesn’t mean he’s excused from condemnation and
judgment.

THE NECESSITY

In Matt. 7:13, as of this moment, there are many people who are still walking in the
broad way. According to the passage, men continually enter and walk into it leading to
destruction. Jude (23) says, save them and snatch them out of fire.

In a data gathered from psa.gov.ph, in the Philippines, there are 70 average deaths
per hour of 1, 677 deaths each day.

In bioethics.georgetown.edu (2016), there are 65 million people die each year in the
whole world, 178,000/day, 7, 425/hour and 120 each minute.
From the data,
1. In the Philippines, from the 1, 677 average deaths/day, how many Christians died?
What about those that without Christ?
2. From the world’s data, from the 178, 000 average deaths/day, how many of them
are Christians? How many of them died without Christ?
3. Today, how many are dying without hearing about Christ?
4. Tomorrow, or next month or the following year, how many people will die because
of their sins?

By looking at the world’s situation of comfort and complacency nowadays, still many are
“wretch and miserable and poor and blind and naked (Rev. 3:17).” They were ”distressed, and
downcast like sheep without a shepherd.”
Each day, as the days go by, many people is perishing- rushing to the fiery eternal death
bed (Jude 23).

ILLUSTRATION

To illustrate the lesson, let’s study the song entitled “People Need the Lord” by Steve
Green and let’s see how people without Christ.

Every day they pass me by

I can see it in their eyes
Empty people filled with care
Headed knows where

On they go through private pain

Living fear to fear
Laughter hides their silent cries
Only Jesus hears

Through His love our hearts can feel

All the grief they bear
They must hear the words of life
Only we can share

The author points us the true condition of the unbelievers. Though we see their smiles
and laughter, but within them are crying in pain and suffering because of sin. They long to have
someone share with their burden. They’re waiting for someone to relieve them from their
condition. They’re losing hope, crying in agony.
So, how many people from our families, neighbors, friends and others are going to
destruction because of sin?
The song says, “They must hear the Word of Life.”

APPLICATION
With the illustration above, like Jesus, when He saw the multitude without a shepherd,
he felt compassion. We too, must feel compassion-must know their real need and make a move
to pray for them and reach them.

CONCLUSION

The necessity for evangelization is: people are perishing every day. They’re great in
number and becoming greater. But, as the People of God is willing to share the Gospel, nothing
is impossible!

“You can’t reach them, unless you give them a hand.”

LESS
ON
THE GOSPEL OF
JESUS CHRIST

Scripture: Matthew 1: 18-25

Background Passages: Mark 1:1-15; Luke 1: 26-38; Eph. 2:8, 9; Rom. 1:16, 17

Teaching Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each one will:

1. Define the Gospel of Christ,

2. Prepare oneself for the Gospel of Christ, and
3. Volunteer to share the Gospel of Christ anytime.
.

Main Teaching: Jesus is the God-sent Savior for the lost.

Emphasis: Share the Gospel for it is the power of God to save.

Development of the Study:

Evangelization is the only way for the salvation of the lost’s depraved condition. In this
study, with the Biblical passages, gives light “to those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow
of death (Psa. 107:10),” for the forgiveness of sin, and the hope of salvation through the Gospel
of Jesus Christ.

THE GOSPEL

In the Book of Matthew 1: 18-25 records the birth and existence of Jesus on earth.
According to him, it is His sole purpose “was to save the sins of his people.” In another passage
said, He came to “seek and save which lost,” and brings “good tidings” to all men.
So, what is this Gospel?

So, the Gospel mentioned here is (1) the message of Christ- message of His life,
suffering, crucifixion, death and resurrection. Acts 2:14-36

It is also (2) a Good News in this world of darkness. It’s because the message He brought
is good- sin has blotted out (Acts 3:19), sufferings ended (1 Pet. 2:21), our yoke has been
lighten, there is rest (Matt. 12: 28-30), and there is a new life (2 Cor. 5:17).

The Gospel we mentioned is ` (3) Jesus Himself. He is the “Word (message) became
flesh” (John 1:1). He is the complete package (Gift) from above for all men. John 3:16

RELATION OF THE GOSPEL AND SALVATION

1. The Gospel is the message of God through Christ for mankind.
2. Salvation is the result of believing the Gospel. Eph. 2: 8, 9

a. Believing and accepting the Gospel (Jesus) are two great keys to receive
salvation. John 1:12
b. All who received Christ as their Savior (all who accepted the finished work of
Calvary as the only way to salvation, repented from their sins, and
acknowledged the Lordship of Jesus Christ), received the new birth
experience and are born of Christ (John 3:1-5, Acts 2:38-39; John 14:6

CHARACTERISTICS OF BEING SAVED

1. In Christ, we are made righteous. Rom. 4:5, 22-25

2. In Christ, we have no condemnation. Rom. 8:1-2
3. In Christ, we are conformed in the image of God. Rom. 8:28- 30
4. In Christ, we have peace with God. Rom. 5:1
5. In Christ, we have access with the Father. Rom. 5:2

ILLUSTRATION

The life Zaccheus is the best illustration. When he heard about Jesus, desire to see Him
sprung into his heart. Because of too many people around, and his small stature, he made a
way to see Him. When he had the opportunity by climbing, persisted and climbed the sycamore
tree. His act of faith was noticed by Jesus and ordered him to come down.
In the story, Zaccheus was glad in receiving Jesus at their house. Surprisingly, from being
corrupt, now, returning all what he stole. With a warm affirmation, Jesus declared that
“salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham (Luke 19:1-10).

APPLICATION

Because you’ve believed and accepted the Gospel, with a heart for the lost, now,
prepare to share the Gospel.

CONCLUSION

The Gospel is message of God for salvation, a Good News, and the Gospel is Jesus
Himself. Salvation is the result of believing the Gospel and has been characterized to determine
whether a person is saved or not. So, one must prepare to share the Gospel for it is the power
of God to save.

4 THE CHURCH:
LESS
ON
THE GOSPEL AGENT

Scripture: Acts 1:1-8

Background Passages: Mark 16: 15, 16; Matt. 28: 16-20

Teaching Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each one will:

1. Describe the church as an agent in the proclamation of the Gospel,

2. Demonstrate the act of being an agent, and
3. Accept the challenge of being an agent.
.

Main Teaching: Jesus is sending the church to be His agent.

Emphasis: I am an agent of the Gospel.

Development of the Study:

Lately, we’ve identified what Gospel is all about. We’ve known that Jesus Himself is the
Gospel message, an answer to a dying race. We also identified what is salvation in relation to
the Gospel. To prove one’s assurance in salvation, we characterized it and put into three words:
“A changed life.”
In our study, we’ll be answering the following questions:

1. Who is responsible to herald the Good news?

2. Why Jesus made us responsible to tell the Good news?
3. What criteria are needed to be His agent?
4. Does all qualified?

All this questions are questions that needed to be answered. Truth- seeking church
members wanting an answer to pacify their wandering thoughts twisted by heretics or seeking
an excuse not to comply with the kingdom chore.

THE CHURCH AS GOD’S AGENT

God’s way of salvation is not discovered by man. It came to him by revelation. So, the
person called to that is called an agent.

Who is an agent?
1. Christ’s ambassador to earth. An ambassador is a representative, an envoy, a
diplomat sent to deal with foreign government.
2. Examples: Judah to Egypt (Isa. 30;1-4); Neco to Josiah (2 Chro. 35:20, 21); Paul (Eph.
5:20).
3. Used figuratively to Christ’s ministers (2 Cor. 5:20).

Passages that show that the believers are Christ’s Agents:

1. The primary ministry of Jesus was to evangelize ((Luke 4:18; 8:1; Matt. 11:5). As a
result, 12 people were saved, and the 12 became 72 and reached to 120.

In Acts 1:7, 8, we can see here that not only the disciples were commissioned to
evangelize, but also the remaining members of the group assembled at the Upper
Room.

2. Peter and Paul with some others like Stephen, Mark, Barnabas, Apollo, Timothy, etc.
were examples of doing evangelism everywhere. So, the early church recognized her
responsibility to evangelize. Mark 16:15, 16; Acts 1:8; 5: 42; 8:4

3. Many churches Paul established and visited are the result of early Christians’ effort.
This happened when they were being persecuted in Jerusalem and dispersed to the
different parts of the world, and testified about the salvation received from the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. Matt. 28:18-20; Ephesians 3: 9- 11

4. The Church then, doesn’t have any excuse to do the task. Whether you are a pastor,
evangelist, a teacher, a prophet, a deacon, a song leader, a musician, or an ordinary
member is no exemption. All are commanded to obey the marching order of Christ.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO BE AN AGENT

Jesus was sent to the world, not because he knew what He is doing, but being qualified
for the task. We see here that God seeks the best- worship, offering, and sacrifice. He doesn’t
pick second rate, copy cut agents. In the same way, He called the Church to do the same task
because He KNEW she can mediate or go-between Him and mankind..

Now, let’s characterize the Church whom God qualified for the task:

1. Holiness. We were made holy by the shedding of His blood. Col. 1:22; 1 Pet. 2:5
2. Submission. The moment we prayed the Sinner’s prayer, total surrender to God
have been made. This yielded life must continue. 2 Cor. 2:9
3. Faith. No one will engage to evangelism without having the understanding about it.
Hence, evangelism is one’s expression of faith. Heb. 11:6
4. Love. Jesus was filled with God’s compassion which made Him able to complete His
mission (Matt. 9:36). The same thing with the Church, represented by you. You can’t
soul- win without genuine love for people, for this is the greatest mark of a soul-
winner.
AM I QUALIFIED?

The qualifications to be God’s agent are as clear as a crystal in this lesson. However,
what impedes you from doing this responsibility is when:

1. You are living carnally. Rom. 8:7

2. You are in the comfort zone. Rev. 3:17
3. You’re lukewarm or cold. Rev. 3:15, 16
4. You lost interest and sense of direction. Rev. 2: 4

ILLUSTRATION

Apostle Peter, the-often-scolded-disciple, was one of the notable follower of Jesus who
displayed great power in evangelism. With his attitude, character and temperament, He is
seemingly incapable of doing God’s business. But upon receiving the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, he
became a dynamite exploded by God, turning 3, 000 people to Christ that day. Followed by 5,
000 souls at the Portico of Solomon the following day.

APPLICATION

Commit to become God’s agent.

CONCLUSION

You and I were saved, called, and qualified as agent of the Gospel to continue the
unfinished task of Jesus on earth.

LESS
ON
THE ROLE OF THE
HOLY SPIRIT IN THE BELIEVER’S LIFE

Scripture: Acts 1: 8

Background Passages: Joel 2:28, 29; John 16:5- 15; Acts 2: 1-4

Teaching Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each one will:

1. Describe the role of the Holy Spirit in your life, and

2. Prepare to receive the Holy Spirit, and
3. Receive the Holy Spirit in your life.
.

Main Teaching: The Father sent the Holy Spirit to empower His people.

Emphasis: I am empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Development of the Study:

The most important thing to an unbeliever is to receive Jesus Christ as personal Savior
and Lord so that he can receive the gift of eternal life and the rebirth from His Spirit. After
receiving the eternal life and his rebirth, there is no greater and more significant gift for him
than the Holy Spirit.
Jesus is God’s gift to the unsaved, but the Holy Spirit, on the other hand, is God’s gift to
the believer IN JESUS, enabling him to know, to find and to fulfill God’s supernatural purpose,
calling, and assignment for his life.
Without the knowledge about the Holy Spirit and experience with Him, our life’s
assignment simply cannot be accomplished. It is only through Him we can identify it. This is
what makes the Holy Spirit such a vital gift!

THE HOLY SPIRIT- THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER

In the Scriptures, Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as the “Promise of the Father” and
made it clear that this promise was for all.
And the following passages support the idea:

“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and
daughters shall prophesy, your old shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And
also on My menservants and maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.”
Joel 2:28, 29 NKJV
And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem,
but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John
truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized not many days from now.”
Acts 1:4, 5 NKJV

“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you
are endued with power from on high.” Luke 24:29 NKJV

In the above passages we draw the following facts:

1. The Holy Spirit is the Promise of the Father. He surely gives what He promised.
2. The Holy Spirit is for everyone- “your sons and daughters, old men, young men, and
servants of God.”
3. The Holy Spirit is about to be given (pour out)- Words like “will,” “wait, “not many
days from now,” and “tarry” signify future tenses. The time Jesus refers here is the
Day of Pentecost. So, there is a specific time to receive the Holy Spirit.
4. The Holy Spirit gives power or enablement- “you’re endued with power on high.”

THE HOLY SPIRIT IN YOUR LIFE AND ALL CHILDREN OF GOD

What God has planned for you to do is beyond the ordinary- it’s “super-natural.” Jesus
understood behind the power what He did. That’s why, He was so resolute that the disciples
not to try to fulfill the Great Commission without the Spirit- the same Spirit that enabled Him.
And this same Spirit is available for you and every child of God.
What God designed for you to do in life is impacting eternity which cannot be
accomplished with human effort or zeal alone. It requires a life that is:
1. Filled with the Spirit,
2. Directed by the Spirit, and
3. Empowered by the Spirit.

That’s true! No matter what field or walk of life the Lord is leading you.
Moreover, ministers and churches need the Holy Spirit. Businessmen and fathers need
the Holy Spirit. Homemakers, teachers, and educators need the Holy Spirit. In fact, if there is
any education or schooling worthy of pursuit, it would be the school of the Holy Spirit! Nothing
could be of greater value! (The Holy Spirit: God’s Gift to You, Joseph B. Kack)

THE HOLY SPIRIT IN PERSONAL EVANGELISM

We’re talking while a back about the enabling power of the Holy Spirit upon the
believers. This was done for the purpose of fulfilling the Great Commission. In Acts 1:8, it was
clearly stated that,

“But ye shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses
unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the
earth.”
We see here that:

1. We can’t do the mandate without receiving the Holy Spirit first. Why? Because He
brings the “power” or “enablement” to us to do the task. Without Him, we can’t do
how God fashioned it.

“Not by might, nor by power but by the Spirit,” says the Lord. Zech. 4:6 KJV

2. The Holy Spirit is our “Comforter” and “Teacher.”

Comforter- the Holy Spirit who bestows spiritual aid and consolation

Teacher- the Holy Spirit who tutors, directs, to advise and to put God’s Word in
remembrance.

3. Evangelism is a spiritual warfare. We are dealing against “principalities, powers,

rulers of darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places” (Eph. 6:12 KJV).
So, we can’t be against them for we are “flesh and blood” and are no match with
them. Only through the power of the Holy Spirit and His Word, we are “more than
conquerors.”

4. Through the Holy Spirit, “He convicts the world concerning of sin, of righteousness
and of judgment.” John 16: 8-11

5. The Holy Spirit gives eternal life and initiates rebirth to those who accepts Jesus.
John 1:12; 3:3

6. The Holy Spirit’s enablement is not necessary, but very necessary in a lifestyle of
soul-winning (evangelism).

ILLUSTRATION

To illustrate the lesson, let’s take the example of Jesus with the Holy Spirit.

1. He received also the Holy Spirit.

When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus was also baptized; and
while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form
like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved
son; in you I am well pleased.” Luke 3:21, 22 NKJV

2. He was filled with the Spirit and then, led by the Holy Spirit.
Then Jesus, being filled in the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the
Holy Spirit into the wilderness. Luke 4:1 NKJV

3. He operated in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Then Jesus returned in the power of the Holy Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out
through the entire surrounding region.” Luke 4:14 NKJV

4. He preached, healed, and brought deliverance because the Holy Spirit was upon
Him.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because he has anointed Me, To preach the Gospel to
the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”
Luke 8:14 NKJV

With the passages cited, can you see the emphasis on the Holy Spirit?

Most people have the idea that Jesus was able to do mighty things because He is
the Only Begotten Son of God. This is true! But that is not the HOW or WHY He was able
to do supernatural things- Jesus did what He did because the Holy Spirit empowered
Him! (The Holy Spirit: God’s Gift to You, Joseph B. Kack)

APPLICATION

Prepare to receive the Holy Spirit.

CONCLUSION

The Holy Spirit is the gift of the Father for you and me. He is the all- source of power for
which, it is available to those who wants to receive Him.

LESS
ON
THE ROLE OF THE
HOLY SPIRIT IN THE CHURCH

Scripture: Ephesians 2: 19-22

Background Passages: Joel 2:28, 29; John 16:5- 15; Acts 1: 8; 2: 1-4; Heb. 10:24, 25

Teaching Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each one will:

1. Describe the role of the Holy Spirit in the church, and

2. Recognize the role of the Holy Spirit in the church, and
3. Respond as a church in the leading and promptings of the Holy Spirit.
.

Main Teaching: The Father sent the Holy Spirit to empower the Church for its mission.

Emphasis: The Holy Spirit is empowering the Church.

Development of the Study:

To live a life with God’s Spirit, it is very important to understand His three basic works:
the Spirit WITHIN US, the Spirit UPON US, and the Spirit AMONG US.
In the previous lesson, we tackled already the first two workings. In this section, we’ll
concentrate about His work among us- the Church.

THE SPIRIT AMONG US

Don’t you know that the assembly of Spirit-filled believers has multiple advantages from the
Holy Spirit?

`Yes! This can be described as “corporate anointing.” It is an anointing, or the level of

the Spirit, that can only be realized when the body parts join together as the Holy Spirit leads
each one into our God-given place.

“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints
and members of the household of God, having built on the foundation of the apostles and
prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the Chief Cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being
fitted together, grows into the Temple of the Lord, whom you also are being built together for a
dwelling place for God in the Spirit.” Eph. 2:19-22

Notice here that the Lord “fits” us together with other believers by a divine design. He
actually “builds us together” as we follow Him and acknowledge this supernatural relationship.
And what is the result? Together, we became the “dwelling place” for God’s Spirit. In other
words, His Spirit comes among us to accomplish His purposes. Often times, these purposes are
greater than anyone of us could accomplish on our own.

DON’T FORSAKE ASSEMBLING

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the
assembling of ourselves together, as is in the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and
so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” Heb. 10:24, 25

Why the Scripture would exhort us not to forsake assembling together? Is it really a big deal?

Yes, it is! Why? There are parts of God’s plan and purposes that simply cannot be
accessed alone that we need each other.

1. By design, we are corporately called “the body of Christ” and “members of one
another” (1 Cor. 12:27; Eph. 4:25). Some aspects of our full inheritance in Christ are
only revealed and made manifest as we obey the Scriptures.
Working together with and loving other people can be “messy” at times, but, if we
desire to live and walk in God’s highest and best, there’s really no way around it, but
to attain perfect harmony.

2. The Scripture teaches us that where “one can chase a thousand; two can put ten
thousand to flight” (Deuteronomy 32:30). More can be accomplished TOGETHER as
we acknowledge one another and take time to assemble together.

When God’s Spirit come AMONG US, we are able to go farther in the plans and purposes
of God than we would able to go alone and we are able to do it faster! We can go
farther….. faster! In other words, spiritual breakthroughs come more quickly and easily.!

ILLUSTRATION

It is very interesting to recall the first-ever recorded Day of Pentecost with the Holy
Spirit in Acts 2 wherein the 120 disciples who waited the Holy Spirit for 10 days paid off. In the
story, the Holy Spirit descended upon them, not just filled them, but overflowing that the by-
standers characterized them as “drunk with wine.”
On the other hand, in Acts 1:8 clearly stated that the Holy Spirit, promised by the
Father, endued them with power which will enable them to fulfill their mission of evangelizing
the whole world. In the preceding chapters of the book, we saw the “acts” of the Holy Spirit in
preaching the Gospel, many were saved, healed, delivered, displayed God’s power through
miracles with signs and wonders. Because of those, the enemies of the Gospel showed up and
tried to hinder God’s progress. But because of the Holy Spirit that is who is within them, upon
them, and among them, made them more than overcomers. Nothing hindered them and
fulfilled their mission amidst of strong opposition and death.

APPLICATION
The church, as a whole, responds to the leading and promptings of the Holy Spirit
regarding the advancement of God’s Kingdom.

CONCLUSION

The church cannot advance the Kingdom of God by man-made plans and programs.
Since the church and her activities is a Spirit-thing, we must know we’re the Body of Christ, His
dwelling. And only through Him, we’re empowered to do His thing.

7 THE GOPSPEL MESSAGE

LESS
ON
Scripture: Romans 10: 13, 14
Background Passages: Acts 4:12; Eph. 2:8, 9; Rom. 6:23; 5:8; 3:23; 3:10, 11; Acts 2:22-36

Teaching Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each one will:

1. Familiarize the four (4) simple points of God’s plan of Salvation,

2. Demonstrate the four (4) simple points of God’s plan of Salvation with the co-student,
3. Translate the given simple points of God’s plan of Salvation into different known
dialects or languages, and
3. Spend time to practice delivering the four (4) simple points of God’s plan of Salvation.
.

Main Teaching: The four (4) simple points of God’s plan of Salvation

Emphasis: I am taking time to practice delivering the four (4) simple points of God’s plan of
Salvation.

Development of the Study:

The very purpose why God saved the individual person in the church is to further the
Gospel to every part of the world. The very reason why the Holy Spirit is within them, upon
them and among them is to empower them to do the task to accomplish what He has planned
ever since (Gen. 3:15). As agents, everyone should present the Gospel message “for this is
God’s power unto salvation” (Rom. 1:16), and there is no other message under heaven where
men could be saved.

In this study, the passage tells everyone the importance of the Gospel as the only means
of man’s salvation. Let’s tackle Romans 10:13, 14:

“For whoever will call upon the Name of the Lord will be saved” Joel 2:38). How then shall they
call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they
have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”

In this context, there are three (3) questions in verse 14 that must be considered along
with verse 13, they are (The Open Bible, 1977, pp. 1090- 1091):

Question 1: “How then they shall call upon Him in whom they have not believed?”

The answer is that, the lost can’t call on the Lord to be saved until they believe that:

1. Christ died for their sins,

2. He was buried, and
3. He was raised from the dead on the third day, according to the Scriptures (1 Cor. 15:
1-4; Rom. 10:9)
4. He is the Lord (Rom. 10:9 9).
Question 2: “And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard?”

The answer is that, the lost cannot believe in Him until they hear the Good news of
salvation.

1. The Eunuch needed to hear to believe (Acts 8: 26- 39).

2. Paul needed to hear to believe (Acts 9: 1-18).
3. Cornelius needed to hear to believe (Acts 10: 1-48).
4. The Philippian jailer needed to hear to believe (Acts 16: 25-40).

Question 3: “And how shall they hear without a preacher?”

The answer is that, they cannot hear the Good news salvation without a witness.

1. The three thousand souls (3, 000) were saved at Pentecost because Peter witnessed.
2. The Eunuch was saved because Philip witnessed.
3. Paul was saved because of the three (3) witnesses, namely: Stephen, Jesus Himself
at the road to Damascus, and Ananias.
4. Cornelius and his household because of Peter witnessed.
5. The Philippian Jailer and his household because of Paul and Silas witnessed.
6. You were saved because someone witnessed.

According to the Word of God, the lost cannot be saved without a witness. They must
have a witness to hear, they must hear to believe, they must believe to call, and they must call
to be saved. But they can’t call until they believe and they can’t believe until they hear and they
can’t hear without a witness. So, faith (saving faith) comes from hearing (Rom. 10:17).” People
are not born with saving faith; it comes only when they hear the Gospel.

THE FOUR (4) SIMPLE POINTS GOSPEL MESSAGE

In the Bible, there is no particular part wherein we could be able to find a complete and
thorough plan of God’s saving power. Through the following Scriptures, we came up with the
Four (4) Simple Points of God’s Plan of Salvation:

1. God loves you.

“For God so love the world, that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever
believes on Him should nor perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

“This is the eternal life, that they may know thee, the only True God, and Jesus
Christ whom thou has sent.” John 17:3

“Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My Love.” John 15:9

“But God demonstrate His own love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us.” Rom. 5:8
2. Sin is the problem.

As it written, “There is none righteous, not even one.” None who does good, there is
not even one.” Rom. 3:10, 12

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Rom. 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death ….” Rom. 6:23

3. Jesus is the solution.

“For the wages of sin is death, BUT the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord.” Rom. 6:23

The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who
takes away the sins of the world.” John 1:29

Jesus said to them, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no one comes to the
Father except through Me.” John 14:6

“For God did not sent His Son into the world to judge the world, but the world
should be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does
not believe has been judged.” John 3:17, 18

4. Accept Jesus as Savior and Lord.

“But as many as received in Him, to them, He gave the right to become Children of
God, even to those who believes in His name.” John 1:12

Jesus said to her, “I am the Resurrection and the Life, He who believes in Me shall
live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die.” John
11:25, 26

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My words, and believes Him whom sent Me,
has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death to
life.” John 5:24

THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS OUTLINE

1. This serves as your blue print in delivering God’s plan of salvation.

2. This is the simplest and most complete guide to share. No need to prepare long,
homiletically- prepared sermon.
3. This helps you focus on your target aim. Note that your aim is to win or lead the
person for the Lord. No focus means loss of opportunity to win a soul.
4. This is good for both beginners and amateurs.
ILLUSTRATION

In the chosen passage, Acts 2:22-36, Apostle Peter’s sermon, and the Holy Spirit’s
anointing were able to save 3, 000 souls that day.

APPLICATION

Practice delivering the points of God’s plan of salvation.

CONCLUSION

There is no other message for the salvation of man except the message of the Gospel.

8 THE SINNER’S PRAYER

LESS
ON
Scripture: Acts 2:37, 38a

Background Passages: Mark 1:15; 2 Cor. 7:10; Psa. 38:18

Teaching Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each one will:

1. Familiarize with the Sinner’s Prayer,
2. Translate the Sinner’s Prayer into different known dialects and languages, and
3. Formulate/craft a Sinner’s Prayer on his own following the necessary contents into
different known dialects and languages.
.

Main Teaching: The Sinner’s Prayer as part of the Gospel message.

Emphasis: Crafting a Sinner’s Prayer in an understood dialects or languages.

Development of the Study:

The Gospel message plays an integral part in the success of soul-winning. In Acts 2: 14-
36, Apostle Peter presented it in a complete, detailed, and a staging manner. This is what
pierced the hearts of the people (V. 37). In the same verse, the people stated their response,
“Brethren, what shall we do?” In verse 38, Apostle Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized
….!”
In verse 40, Apostle Peter continued to exhort them until all of them were baptized and
saved 3, 000 souls that day.

In this study, there were two (2) points that led the people to Christ:

1. The Gospel Message (which we tackled lately), and

2. The peoples’ repentance

Actually, in the above passage, no where we can find the people were led to Sinner’s
prayer. It was stated there that they themselves repented after they were pierced with the
message heard.

Questions:

But why we need to study about this prayer where in fact it’s unbiblical?

It is true that we can’t find this applied in this particular book and the whole Bible, but
we should consider the following:

1. The lost or the unbelievers can’t pray the way we pray,

2. Since they are new to this, they must be GUIDED through you as the witness (Acts
2:37; 8: 29-31). So, you FACILITATE the process, and
3. This ensures them a full understanding and response to the messages heard through
that prayer.

THE SINNER’S PRAYER

This is done after presenting the four (4) points of God’s plan for salvation. This is where
you can see his RESPONSE towards the message presented. You can see here if he accepts the
message or not, or believe Jesus or not.
On the other hand, the content must be similar to the message presented. Look at the
example (In Filipino):

“Ama sa kalangitan, batid kong nagkasala ako at nangangailangan ng inyong kapatawaran. Ako
Amen.

Similar prayers can be found in New Testament Bibles like:

1. Ang Bagong Tipan: Magandang Balita Biblia of Phlippine Bible Soceity (PBS),
2. Iti Baro nga Tulag: Naimbag a Damag Biblia of Phlippine Bible Soceity (PBS),
3. Gideons International: New Testament Bible in KJV (Different dialects),
4. Ang Magandang Balita ayon kay Juan Pamphlet and others.

EVIDENCES THAT A PERSON HAS BEEN WON TO CHRIST

A. Conviction of Sin. Acts 2:37; Acts 4:4

B. Faith in Christ. Acts 8: 25-39; Acts 10: 34-48
C. Repentance (Acts 2:37-38; 16: 29-30; 2 Cor. 7:10). A profound pain for having a
failed result in the desire to change our way of thinking.
D. Change of life (2 Cor. 5:17; Luke 19:8). The true evidence that the person has left the
old life is that, he has a new behavior and the desire to grow spiritually.
E. Prayer (Acts 2:42). Although, in the beginning, prayer is not easy, the person will
begin acquiring the habit of prayer and understands it as means of his
communication with God.
F. Obedience (Acts 26: 19). The saved person understands that obedience is a
fundamental for a life of holiness and growth.

ILLUSTRATION

In the conversion of Apostle Paul (Acts 9 & 26), we haven’t seen him repenting from his
sins, but shown emphatically in verse 19 through obedience to where God called him.

CONCLUSION

The Sinner’s prayer, though it is not being emphasized in the Scripture, has a great help
for the witness to ensure full understanding and response on the part of the person who heard
the Gospel message.
9 THE PRESENTATION OF THE
LESS GOSPEL MESSAGE
ON
Scripture: Acts 2:14-36

Background Passages: Acts 3:11-26; 4: 12; 7; 8:4-39; 10:34-48

Teaching Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each one will:

1. Familiarize on how to present the Gospel message,

2. Try to present the Gospel message with a classmate and a teacher, and

Main Teaching: The “how” of Gospel message delivery.

Emphasis: To present the whole process of soul- winning

Development of the Study:

Soul-winning is a lot of fun, joy and fulfillment. And this can be attained only when the
presentation of the Gospel message is well- prepared and presented, brief and concise, and
anointed.
In this lesson, the aim is to guide everyone in doing the whole process of soul-winning
most especially in one-to-one evangelism, [though it has a similarity in mass evangelism].

1. Pre soul-winning.

Preparation is the first and foremost thing to do in this endeavor.

Things to prepare:

a. Self- Body, soul, and spirit. Wear your best self.

b. Tools needed- Handy Bible (New Testament), Gospel outline, pen, and others.
c. Prepare in prayer. Ask God to whom you are sent.
d. Fast if needed.

2. During soul-winning.

a. Approach the prospect with smile. Don’t show you’re nervous. Be natural. This is
not the point to share the Gospel. If you do so, the prospect will drive you away,
immediately. Most people around us have their own faith, beliefs or religion and
ideologies and are aloof to other religions like you. They don’t want to feel you’ll
convert them.
b. Encourage communication. You can talk about anything under the heaven. Things
that you both are interested of. This bridges you and your prospect.

Things to talk about:

(1) Current events- the latest news in politics, showbiz, sports, fashion,
entertainment, health, agriculture, etc.
(2) Hobbies- You can easily identify who and what he is through his likes,
interests, or what he’s doing most of the time.
(3) Life situations- crisis, high price of commodities, immoralities, injustices, etc.
(4) Family- When he felt you’re trustworthy, he opens- up his family situations,
mostly, his personal problems, spouse, children or siblings.
(5) Religion or faith

c. Pray within you at what point in your conversation you could share the Gospel.
You can look around for something that serves as your entry point such as verse
posted on their wall, a saying, or simply use his circumstance to divert the talk to
your very purpose.
d. If you found an open heart, with love, share the Four (4) Simple Points of the
Gospel message. Use 1 or 2 passages that support the 4 points Gospel message.
Here, don’t preach or shout. Refrain from speaking in tongues. Communicate to him
naturally.
e. Ask him if he believes Jesus (You must know his response for this is the indication if
you proceed or not). If he said YES, ask him to receive the Lord Jesus. Again, if he
responded YES, proceed to the next.

What about if he’ll resist? Ask him why. Ask him at what part of the message
presented he does not understood. If he was clarified with what you discussed, now
ask him if he believes in Jesus and would want to receive Him as Lord and Savior. So,
his response is the indication for you to proceed to the next step.

What if he really don’t like? Don’t insist if he doesn’t like. Thank him for the time he
spent with you, and then leave. Don’t be sarcastic, or get angry with him. In the
Bible, those who doesn’t want to receive Jesus or the Gospel, they shook their
clothes.

f. Ask them to pray with you using the Sinner’s Pray. Note here that you are the
guide, the facilitator of the process. So, what will you do?
(1) You can read the prayer, or just recite it if you’re familiar. The Sinner’s prayer
must be brief and short. It should not be too long to recite.
(2) Read or recite per phrase, 3 to 4 words. Not one word at a time!
(3) Don’t make it fast. He can’t catch up with you.

g. After the prayer, congratulate him by quoting John 1:12.

h. Assure him that he is saved already. Quote to him the following passages:

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My words, and believes Him whom sent Me, has eternal
life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death to life.” John 5:24

For He Himself has said, “I will never dessert you, nor will I ever forsake you.” So, we confidently
say, “The Lord is My Helper, I will not be afraid. What shall man do to me?”
Heb. 13:5, 6
i. Tell him that he will be visited by you often. Here, don’t invite him to church
immediately. If he himself ask what church do you belong, and he is expressing
desire to come to church, then that’s the time for you to guide him to the church.
Don’t forget to tell the venue, and the day and time of service schedule.

Note: If he does not show interest, it is better not to insist.

3. Post soul-winning

Now, that you have lead a soul to Christ, your responsibility does not end there. You
have a spiritual baby, and the baby needs help. He needs to grow in grace and in the
knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. There are several things that you can do to help the
new Christian to grow spiritually.

a. Give him a Bible to start with. A meaning-based Bible should be given- NKJV, NASB,
Good News Bible, ASV, and to name a few. It is a basic instruction before he leaves
earth.
b. Tell him that he is now saved (John 3:36; 1 John 5:13). The infallible Word is the
assurance of his salvation. Let him know the following:
(1) That he is now a child of God. 1 John 3:2
(2) That he was made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. 1 Cor. 1:30; 2
Cor. 5:21
(3) That he is now a new creature in Christ. 2 Cor. 5:17
(4) That he is now a son and an heir of God (Gal. 4:7).
c. Tell him that he was saved to obey (Acts 5:29). He is now belongs to Christ. Christ is
now his Lord and Master. Now, he should obey in all things.
(1) Now, he must join a New Testament Church (Heb. 10:25).
 Attend a Sunday school class and study the Word of God with
other believers to be nourished by the “sincere milk” of the Word
of God (1 Peter 2:2).
 Attend Sunday worship in the church (Heb. 10:25). He needs the
preaching of God’s word and Christian fellowship.
(2) Be baptized to publicly profess his faith in Jesus (Acts 2:41).

Baptism does not save; it’s a witness of his faith in the death, burial, and
resurrection of Christ (Rom. 6:4).

(3) Become a faithful steward (1 Cor. 4:2). All that he has belongs to God, “You
are not on your own. For you are bought with a price (1 Cor. 6: 19, 20). Tell
him that as a faithful steward, he needs to pay God his tithe (Mal. 3:10). The
tithe is one-tenth of his income, and it’s the Lord’s (Lev. 27:30).
(4) Tell him that he should have a time for daily prayer and reading of God’s
Word so that he’ll grow in the grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus
Christ.

APPLICATION

Practice presenting the Gospel message with your classmates, families and friends. Then
launch out for soul-winning.

CONCLUSION
Love for souls can’t be realized until you have presented the Gospel message and see
your prospect saved and enjoying his life with Christ and other believers witnessing.

10 THE MODE OF
LESS EVANGELISM: Personal Evangelism
ON
Scripture: Acts 8: 25-39

Background Passages: Luke 19:1-10; John 4:7-38

Teaching Objectives: At the end of the lesson, each one will:

1. Familiarize personal evangelism,

2. Try to soul-win a unsaved neighbor, a family member or a friend, and
3. Accept this as part of one’s lifestyle.
.

Main Teaching: The “how” of personal evangelism.

Emphasis: Demonstrate personal evangelism to unbelieving neighbor, a family member and

a friend.

Development of the Study:

There are various ways on how the Gospel message is being presented. With this
diversity, it can also be presented to only ONE to FEW people to be saved.
In this particular study, we’ll focus on personal evangelism.

PERSONAL EVANGELISM

Personal evangelism is sharing the message of Jesus Christ with others. It is showing and
telling- with both word and deed- who Jesus is and how it’s possible to have a relationship with
Him (www.cru.org, Personal Evangelism 101: The Complete Guide).
Sometime referred to as “one-to-one” or “personal work,” this approach to evangelism
is one Christian, who is the witness, evangelizes to, typically, one non- Christian, or only a few
non-Christians, in a private manner (en.m.wikipedia.org).

SCRIPTURAL BASIS OF PERSONAL EVANGELISM

1. One-to-one. This means that the involved persons are the witness and the
unbeliever only.
Examples:

a. Jesus and the Samaritan woman. John 4:7-38

b. Jesus and Zaccheus. Luke 19:1-10
c. Jesus and Saul. Acts 9:1-9
d. Ananias and Saul. Acts 9: 10-19
e. Apostle Peter and Cornelius. Acts 10: 23-43
f. Apostle Paul and Lydia, the first convert in Europe. Acts 16:14
g. Apostle Paul and Timothy. Acts 16:1-5

2. Two-to-one. The two witnesses (one is the speaker, and the one is intercessor) and
the unbeliever.
Example:

a. The 72 disciples of Jesus were sent by two’s.

b. Apostle Peter and John with the lame beggar. Acts 3:1-10
c. Apostle Paul and Silas with the Philippian Jailer. Acts 16: 22-31
d. Common practice of NBTC, and MTA’s Internship Program. The one
presents the Gospel message, and the other intercedes.
3. One-to-few. The witness and few unbelievers.

Examples:

a. Jesus with Zaccheus’ household.

b. Peter with Cornelius’ Household.
c. Apostle Paul with Lydia’s household. Acts 16: 15
d. Apostle Paul with some of the disciples (12) at Ephesus. Acts 19: 1-7
e. Apostle Paul with Festus, Agrippa, Bernice and some others. Acts 26

4. Two-to-few. Two witnesses with few unbelievers. The one serves as the soul-
winner, and the other is in the aspect of prayer. Remember that evangelism is
warfare. It really needs someone to be with than being alone in the battle. The Bible
says, “Two is better than one.”

Example: Apostle Paul and Silas with the Philippian Jailer’s household. Acts 16:
32-34

ADVANTAGES OF PERSONAL EVANGELISM

1. Limited audience. It’s easy to talk to. Only one focus.

2. Flexible. Can be done both formal and informal.
a. Formal- An evangelism done formally with your presentable attire. Either
done in a formal setting like in cafeteria, restaurant, or fast food, or simply
done house-to-house.
b. Informal- An evangelism done when you lead a soul unintentional in an
informal setting. Like when you had a coffee in your neighbor, in a corner, in
a farm, or met a colleague on your way home with your ordinary attire.
3. Can reach people anywhere, anytime with your phone. You can reach them
through SMS, phone call or using social media platforms like Messenger chat,
Telegram, Whatsapp, Gmail, etc. This was called phone evangelism or internet
evangelism.
4. Lesser preparation. You just prepare yourself-spirit, soul and body. It’s good for you
to be familiar with the process of soul-winning. This will help you a lot most
especially in an informal way of soul-winning.
5. Costless. You can spend only for transportation, cellphone load or a meal or just a
snack.

Main Teaching: The “how” of mass evangelism.

Emphasis: Employ mass evangelism with in the community.

Development of the Study:

Lately, personal evangelism was undertaken and cited many examples in the Bible. In
this lesson, we’ll be studying another kind of evangelism- the mass evangelism.

What’s this?

MASS EVANGELISM

Its basic theme is “All men are sinners who need a Savior.” God, in His grace, has
provided a Savior in the Person of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. All who believe in Christ and
accept the shedding of His blood in His death on the cross in payment for their sins be justified
and have eternal fellowship with God.
The major task of the church has been to institute the methods that will most effectively
proclaim this “good news message” to a lost world. Many effective methods have been
employed, and each one has its place and its value.
The method that has stood out throughout the long history of the church as the most
dramatic, the most effective, and the most productive is mass evangelism. Unlike personal
evangelism, this means evangelization with masses of people. That’s why it is being called
because it involves many, multitude, and crowd of people.

Meaning of mass evangelism

1. It is a method of urgency. Why is it that mass evangelism urgent? The

following describe the nature of the present world:
a. Has lost sight of the importance of soul. There is no so much stress on
the terribleness of sin, awfulness of hell, and the terror of judgment.
b. The true meaning of Gospel has been subverted to social programs,
emphasis on civil rights and educational endeavors.
c. Since the world was exposed to the moral values of the Christian
faith, this became part of the thinking of the society.
d. With the easiness of life, doesn’t feel a need the modern church.

For these reasons, mass evangelism must remain alive, effective, and
strong. Without it, the world stands in danger of losing its hope of the
saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
2. It is a method of expediency. Why expedient?
a. It was designed for the maximum utilization of time. Through this
method, the Gospel is brought to the largest number possible in the
shortest time.
b. Was designed for the maximum utilization of efficiency. Through this
method, the Gospel is brought to the largest number possible
through the efforts of the fewest number of workers.

SCRIPTURAL BASIS OF MASS EVANGELISM

1. Jesus with the multitude up on a mountain. Matt. 5

2. Jesus feeding the 5, 000 +. John 6:1-14
3. John the Baptist while baptizing the people. Mark 1:4-13
4. Apostle Peter and the “Men of Israel.” Acts 3:11-26
5. Stephen and “among the people.” Acts 6: 7- 7:1-53

ESSENTIALS OF MASS EVANGELISM

1. Effective planning. Failing to plan is planning to fail.

a. The location must be decided upon. One indication is where a burden was
felt.
b. There must a united effort. In the Book of Acts, we have a record of the
greatest revival. The preparation for this meeting is the best example
wherein, they were all “in one accord.”
c. The time element is vital. Time must fit the circumstances. Programming
must not be done during holiday seasons, classes and work schedules.
d. The site must be chosen- whether in an open-air, a tent, stadium or an
auditorium.

2. Organization is necessary. The method of Jesus is always the greatest example to

emulate. In His way, before he would make a tour, He sent His twelve first, and then
the seventy two. As a committee of two, each group was given a specific route and
their work was carefully outlined.
When Jesus arrived on the scene, there was always an audience to hear Him.
When He ministered to the large groups, it was orderly and planned.

What to do?

a. Must have an organizational meeting. The planning and organization for

large meetings must utilize the talents of many individuals. These men must
be given specific responsibilities, direction, and trust to perform. The success
of any evangelistic campaign requires a lot of hard work before, during and
the follow-up.
b. The Finance committee. This committee is responsible in preparing and
submitting the budget for the entire campaign.
c. Publicity committee. The major task of this committee is to get the crowd. To
do so, the evangelist, the ministers, and the nature of the meeting must be
publicized to attract wide attention, arouse interests, and motivate people to
come and see.
Examples: direct contact, newspaper publicity, radio, television, and posters.
The cost will be high, but adequate provision should be made.
d. Personal workers committee. The mass evangelistic campaign will require a
large number of personal workers or counselors, ushers, and other
personnel.
e. Follow-up. The reason many churches do not benefit from mass evangelism
is because they fail to perform the necessary task of follow-up. Each decision
card should be distributed to all local congregations. Those filled out the
cards should be contacted immediately and enlist in the local church.
f. The evangelist. He must be secured to preach the Gospel.

3. The Message- the anointing. The most effective planning, organization and
promotion are meaningless shell without it. Paul sums it up in one statement: “For I
am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation”
(Rom. 1:16).
The anointing is equally important. Personality, faith, dramatics-these are useless
hypocrisy without the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

EXAMPLES OF MASS EVANGELISM

1. City-wide crusade
2. Camp meeting Evangelism
3. Radio and Television Evangelism
4. Open-air Evangelism

APPLICATION

Plan and prepare to apply mass evangelism in a funeral or any other group of people
such as children, youth, adult, market vendors, and tricycle drivers and to name a few.
Employ mass evangelism within the community with co-students.

CONCLUSION

Mass evangelism is both a method of urgency and expediency, as long as it is carefully

planned, prepared and organized, and with the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
