The Present Continuous Tense (also called the Present Progressive) is used to describe:

1. Actions happening at the moment of speaking:

o Example: She is reading a book right now.
2. Actions happening around the present time (but not necessarily at this moment):
o Example: I am studying English this week.
3. Future plans or arrangements (often used when talking about scheduled events in the
near future):
o Example: We are meeting them tomorrow.
4. Temporary actions or situations (something that is not permanent):
o Example: He is living in London for a few months.

Structure:

 Affirmative: Subject + am/are/is + Verb-ing

o Example: She is playing tennis.
 Negative: Subject + am/are/is + not + Verb-ing
o Example: They are not (aren't) watching TV right now.
 Interrogative: Am/Are/Is + Subject + Verb-ing?
o Example: Are you coming to the party?

Rules for forming the Present Continuous:

 am/are/is: Use am with "I," is with he, she, it, and are with you, we, they.
 Add -ing to the base verb (e.g., go → going).
o If the verb ends in -e, drop the -e before adding -ing (e.g., make → making).
o If the verb ends in -ie, change ie to y before adding -ing (e.g., die → dying).
o For verbs with one syllable ending in consonant + vowel + consonant, double the
final consonant (e.g., run → running).
