UNIT -1 a) From basic principles derive an expression for the torque developed in terms of the rotor copper loss and slip. Develop the slip torque characteristics from the same. Calculate the minimum torque and the slip at which it Occurs. Find the starting torque as a percentage of full load torque if the motor is started by (i) direct starting to the supply (ii) a star-delta starter and (iii) auto transformer starter which limits the starting current to 2.5 times the full load current. The full load slip is given as 4 percent. , OR Using double revolving field theory, explain the principle of operation of single phase induction motors. In a 4 pole, 50 Hz single phase induction motor, the power absorbed by the forward and backward field rotor equivalent resistances are 200 W and 21 W respectively at a motor speed of 1440 rpm. The mechanical losses tals 20W. Compute the shaft torque at the above speed.
