GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS

In-charge of the Month for September

TANGRAMS

1. There will be two (2) participants per strand for SHS, ABM and TVL will be merge
as one group and per grade level for JHS.
2. There will be 4 pairs who will play in the first round. (Note: No players allowed to
compete with the same group members).
3. The pairs will be as follows:

Group 1-member VS Group 3-member

Group 4-member VS Group 2-member

4. The first round consist of 5 figures; each will be formed within a minute.
5. The player of each pair who gets the highest number of correct figures will
advance to the second and final round.
6. The four (4) winners from first round will compete with each other in the second
round.
7. In the second round, they will be given 5 figures; Each will be formed within a
minute.
8. The player with highest number of correct figures in the final round and have the
shortest time consumed will be declared as First, Second, Third and Fourth placer
respectively.

SCRABBLE
Mechanics:
1. The game shall be participated by JHS and SHS students of Agusan del Sur
College, Inc.
2. Each team is required to have one (1) participant.
3. The participants shall compete in three rounds.
4. Each participant is given one (1) minute to place the tiles accordingly. If
he/she goes beyond the given time, the participant shall not be allowed to
place the tiles for that moment missing the chance to gain points.
5. The total accumulated scores of the participants shall determine the top 3
winners of the event.
6. Only words which are accepted in the dictionary that will be used by the
facilitator shall be accepted.
7. Participants shall be given three chances to refer the confusing words to the
facilitator.
8. If the word is not accepted, three chances shall be given to the participant for
each round to come-up with a valid word. Beyond the given chances,
deduction of points shall take effect based on the total points in the tiles.

BOGGLE
Mechanics:
1. The game shall be participated by JHS and SHS students of Agusan del Sur
College, Inc.
2. Each team is required to have one (1) participant.
3. Boggle is a Hasbro word game that requires 16 letter cubes, the cube grid
with dome, and a 3-minute sand timer.
4. The facilitator shall provide the Boggle cubes and the timer.
5. There shall be 2 sets of game and each set is composed of 5 rounds.
6. Players should bring their pencils and paper
7. The player will play for four rounds before declaring the winner.
8. When all the players are ready with their pencils and paper, the letter cubes
are shaken inside the closed grid box.
9. Then, start the three-minute timer and remove the cover of the box to reveal
the letters.
10.Players may write as many words as he/she can follow the rules.
 The letters of each word must be joined in a chain
 Either vertical, horizontal or diagonal in any direction
 Must be at least 3 words long!
11.Plural or any derived form of a word counts as separate points
• Example: “Goat & Goats” or “chew, chews & chewed”
12.Players are allowed to write any word from the English Dictionary and can
use any form of tense. Besides, players are also allowed to write words within
another word. For example, players can write ‘water’ and ‘ate.’ They will be
counted as two different words.
13.However, players cannot write any proper noun such as America or London,
words in other languages and abbreviations, heightened words or
contractions.
14.After each player will say/show one word that they have written, and all the
players who have written the same word have to cut it out.
15.That way, players will be left with only unmatched words, and no two players
shall have the same word.
16.Words questioned by player must be checked using dictionary by the
facilitator.
The point system of Boggle is as follows:
 3 Letters = 1 point
 4 Letters = 2 point
 5 Letters = 3 points
 6 Letters = 4 points
 7 Letters = 5 points
 8 (Or More) Letters = 10 points
The winner is:
 the player whose words have earned the most points after the 2 sets
(each set is composed of 5 rounds) will be declared as winner
THINGS TO REMEMBER
 Neither the cubes nor the grid may be touched when the timer is running.
 Multiple meanings of the same word do not earn multiple credit.
 The same word found by a player in different areas of the grid may not be
counted for multiple credit.
 Both the “M” and the “W” have a line under them.
 The letter “Z” also has a line under it and should not be seen as the word
“IN.”
 Common words tend to be found by more than one player. Therefore, if
your words are unique and unusual, they are more likely to earn you
points.

CHESS
 1 player per group.
The tournament will be conducted in a round robin style. All the participants
will play with the participants from the different teams. All standard rules for the
game apply. these are the highlights:
All players: Must be able to do the following:
 Properly move all of the chess pieces
 Understand pawn promotion.
 Understand rules for “advanced” moves: Castling and en passant capture
(note: please ask the organizer in case of any confusion about en passant rule )
 Understand Check and the ways to get out of check (move, block, capture)
 Understand Checkmate
 Understand the “touch-move” rule
 Understand 50 moves draw rule i.e. the game can be claimed drawn after
50 moves if there are no pawn moves or no captures.
 Understand 3 fold repetition rule. the game can be claimed drawn if the
exact same position is repeated thrice.
 No outside assistance during games is allowed.
 The Ranking of the winners shall be according to their corresponding of
number of wins accumulated.

Literary and Musical Competition


Declamation
Mechanics:
1. The participants are Junior High School (JHS) students only.
2. Each team is required to have one (1) participant.
3. A declamation piece will be provided by the facilitator.
4. The participants shall memorize the given piece.
5. The participants shall be in an appropriate costume and shall use props
whenever necessary.
6. The participant’s performance shall be recorded. Edited videos are allowed,
but adding of background music is prohibited. Portions in the video/s which
are being cut and are attached to another recorded video shall not exceed by
ten (10) cuts/ attachments (split recording).
7. Make sure that the camera shows the student’s entire body. So that the only
thing on the screen is the participant.
8. Entries shall be submitted in the Gmail account provided. See the previous
file for the date of submission.
9. Top 3 entries based on the judges’ average score will be declared as winners.

10.The criteria in judging the videos are:


 Overall Interpretation (45%). The student declaimer demonstrates
mastery of the piece through expressive interpretation and provides the
viewers with a direct experience of the masterfully crafted literature.
 Vocal Aspects (45%). The student declaimer employs vocal effects
such as varying tone, pitch, volume, and others to reinforce powerful
interpretation of the piece.
 Costume and Props (10%). The student declaimer wears a costume
and uses props required in the development of the presented discourse.

(TEACHER AND STUDENT TANDEM DUET)


MECHANICS

1. The participants are the Junior High School teachers and students.
2. Each team shall have one (1) entry composed of one student and one
teacher.
3. The pair is free to choose any song that suits their voice range and style,
English or Filipino, as long as it is an Original Pilipino Music.
4. Only the use of accompaniment such as minus one and audio CD-recorded
instrument is allowed.
5. Remix is strictly prohibited.
6. The decision of the Board of Judges in all aspects of the contest shall be
deemed final and irrevocable.
7. Any breach or violation of the stipulated guideline shall be valid ground for
disqualification.

(SPOKEN WORD POETRY)

MECHANICS

1. Spoken Word Poetry is a performance art that is word based. It is meant to be


spoken or recited with emotion to an audience. It is an oral art that focuses
on the art of word play, rhythm, improvisation, intonation, and voice
inflection.
2. There will be one participant for each group namely, HUMSS 11 (1), HUMSS
12(1), ABM-TVL 11 & 12 (1), and GAS 11 &12 (1).
3. The spoken word poetry piece must be an original composition, written in
Filipino but not in Taglish. The composed piece is drawn from the theme.
4. Sounds, instruments, or musical background is allowed to complement the
delivery. No deduction shall be made if the contestant opts not to have a
musical background.
5. The contestant must memorize the piece.
6. The participant’s performance shall be recorded. Edited videos are allowed,
but adding of background music is prohibited. Portions in the video/s which

THE CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

1. Message/Content, 40%

 The content of the spoken piece is relevant to the theme.


 The piece has a powerful and meaningful message to the audience.

2. Delivery and Performance, 30%

 The spoken piece is delivered from the heart.


 Facial expression, hand and body gestures that emphasize the
different elements of the performance.
 Enunciation is clear. Audience can understand what is being spoken.
 Words are pronounced distinctly and correctly.

3. Originality, 20%

 The piece must be an original composition by the contestant.

4. Overall Performance 10%

 The performer’s physical appearance, voice and articulation, dramatic


appropriateness, and evidence of understanding all seem on target
and unified to breathe life into the piece.
 Total success of the performance, the degree to which the
performance has become more than the sum of its parts.

(MODERN DANCE)

GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS


1. The contest is open to junior high school students only.
 Grade 7
 Grade 8
 Grade 9
 Grade 10
2. Each group shall composed of minimum of 5 dancers and maximum of 10 dancers
(excluding the teacher/s). Members of the group shall be composed of all
males/females or any combination thereof.
3. No outsiders or professional dancer/s should be part of the group. Automatic
disqualification in the competition if the group fails to follow
4. Music should be wholesome, lively and must not contain any subliminal, sexually
suggestive and vulgar lyrics/language.
5. Remix music is allowed.
6. The music shall be at least three (3) to five (5) minutes.
7. Choreography should not be vulgar and must not contain any subliminal, sexually
suggestive act.
8. Attire or costumes may include accessories such as hats, caps, gloves, scarfs, etc.
Removing pieces of clothing during the performance is allowed provided that it is
not offensive or out of character.
9. Appropriate clothing should be observed throughout the competition.
10. The use of props is strictly prohibited.
11. The 3 dance groups with the total highest score will be the top 3 winners

(ETHNIC DANCE)

GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS


1. Ethnic dance is any dance form which can be identified as originating with an
ethnic culture and expressing the movement aesthetics of that culture.
2. The contest is open to senior high school students and teachers.

3. Each group shall composed of minimum of 5 dancers and maximum of 10


dancers (excluding the teacher). Members of the group shall be composed of all
males/females or any combination thereof.
4. Participating groups will showcase a dance based on their chosen ethnic group.
5. Each performance should last for 3-5 minutes.
6. The participants will provide their own music

Criteria for Judging:

Choreography 40%
Synchronization and Mastery 30%
Appropriateness and Correctness 20%
Stage performance 10%

Search For Mr. and Ms. ADSCO High 2022


Overview:
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Basic Education Department of
Agusan del Sur College, Inc. strives to offer different curricular and co- curricular
opportunities for a holistic development.
One of the highlights of this year’s 56 th Foundation Day celebration is the
Search for Mr. and Ms. ADSCO High 2022.The purpose of the beauty pageants is to
find ones personality, their own strengths and weakness as a person, gain
confidence and boost their self- esteem, and prove to people that it is not
impossible to have beauty and brains.
This event will showcase the poise and beauty of senior high school
students. Moreover, their inner beauty will be showcased as they will share their
advocacies.
The winners will be the ambassadors of goodwill of the ADSCO community.
Mechanics:
1. All contestants are bona fide senior high school students.
2. There will be TWO pairs of candidates who will represent each group. The
groupings are as follows:
 HUMSS 11
 HUMSS 12
 GAS 11 & 12
 ABM-TVL 11 & 12
3. Candidates must have no records of minor and major offenses in school.
4. Contestants have to be single, not in a de-facto relationship, have neither
been married, nor has ever gotten pregnant or given birth.
5. Showcasing the talents of candidates will be done during the Literary Musical
Competition.
6. All contestants are to compete and to be judged in different categories
namely: Mr and Ms. Photogenic, Viewers’ Choice Award, Best in Talent, Best
in Swimwear, Best in School Uniform, Best in Casual Attire, Best in Evening
Gown, and Best in Interview. Candidates who will excel in each category will
be awarded respectively.
7. Viewers’ choice award is considered as a special awards, hence it is not
included in the tally in determining the winners of the event.
8. At the end of the coronation, contestants will be awarded with the following:
4th Runners- Up, 3rd Runners- Up, 2nd Runners- Up, 1st Runners- Up, and Mr.
and Ms. ADSCO High 2021. Ranking system will be utilized in determining the
winners or rank of the candidates for each category. In case of tie, .50 will be
added to each. In case of triple tie, .33 will be given. In case of quadruple
tie, .25 is added. Moreover, percentage will be used in different categories to
identify the winners. The percentage are as follows:

 Talent - 20%
 Interview - 20%
 Casual Attire - 15%
 Gown - 15%
 Swimwear - 15%
 School Uniform - 15%

FIELD/MASS DEMONSTRATION
1. Composition of groups:
a. All students who don’t have any participation with the other activities
like sports and mind games.
b. The participants will be coming from the Elementary, Junior High
School and Senior High School.
2. Dance Classifications:
a. Elementary pupils- Retro Style
b. Junior High School- Zumba
c. Senior High School- Makabagong Sayaw sa Lumang Tugtugin
3. The music should be submitted to the music director 1 week prior to the day
which they are going to present.
4. The use of props will be allowed as long as it will not cause any delay in the
program and any harm to the performance of their groups. Props such as oil,
flammable materials, pyrotechnic gadgets, broken glass, live animals, sharp
objects and the likes are prohibited.
5. Each participating group should ensure that they are prepared for any
untoward and unexpected accident during their rehearsals and final
performance.
6. Costume. The group will utilize the use of our ADSCO PE uniforms.
7. The trainers for each participating team will be their advisers together with
the focal persons.
Foundation Day Celebration Points System
Ball Games, Mind Games, Banner Raising and Literary & Musical Contest
1st place- 500 points
2nd place- 400 points
3rd place- 300 points
4th place- 200 points
Note: Each event will have the corresponding set of points.

Pageant
Mr. and Ms. ADSCO HIGH 2022- 500 points
1st runner up- 400 points
2nd runner up- 300 points
3rd runner up- 200 points
4th runner up- 100 points
