Circuit diagram for meter bridge.

Balanced condition of Wheatstone meter bridge
Aim of the Experiment :-

To find resistance of a given wire/standard Resistor by using metre bridge method.

Apparatus required:-

1. Meter bridge
2. Galvanometer
3. Resistance Box
4. Connecting wire
5. Unknown resistance wire
6. Battery eliminator
7. Jockey
8. One way plug key
9. Sand paper
10. Geometry box

Theory:-

When resistance box (R) , a battery eliminator , a galvanometer and a resistance wire and jockey
connected with meter bridge forming a circuit as shown in figure.

If the resistances are adjusted through the jockey then galvanometer will show no deflection (no
current is passing through the galvanometer i.e, G is showing zero deflection) then wheatstone meter
bridge are in balanced condition ; so four resistances P,Q,R and S are satisfied the following relation .

𝑃 𝑅

𝑄 𝑆

𝑙𝑟 𝑅

(100 − 𝑙 )𝑟 𝑆

𝑙 𝑅
⇒ =
(100 − 𝑙) 𝑆

(100 − 𝑙 ) 𝑅
⇒𝑆= 𝑖𝑛 𝑜ℎ𝑚
𝑙

Where S= is the unknown resistance wire.

Tabulation:-

Conclusion :-

Hence, from the above experiment it is concluded , that the values of unknown
resistance (S) of the wire is found to be _______ ohm .
