Project Description
This project analyzes the IMDB movie dataset to identify factors contributing to a
movie's success, as measured by high IMDB ratings. The goal is to uncover insights that
can guide movie producers, directors, and investors in making informed decisions about
future projects.

Approach
1. Data Cleaning: Handled missing values by filling critical fields with median values for
numeric data and mode for categorical fields.
2. Genre Analysis: Examined the distribution of movie genres and their influence on
IMDB ratings. Each genre's rating was analyzed using statistical measures such as mean,
median, and standard deviation.
3. Duration Analysis: Analyzed the relationship between movie duration and IMDB
ratings using scatter plots and a trendline to assess correlation.
4. Language Analysis: Investigated IMDB ratings by language to determine how
language impacts ratings.
5. Director Analysis: Identified top directors based on average IMDB scores to evaluate
the influence of directors.
6. Budget Analysis: Analyzed the correlation between movie budget and gross earnings,
and identified movies with the highest profit margins.

Tech-Stack Used
Microsoft Excel 2022, Python (for data cleaning, analysis, and visualization).

Insights

A. Genre Analysis
Genres like Film-Noir and Documentary have the highest average IMDB scores (7.63
and 7.18, respectively), indicating they are consistently well-received. Horror and
Comedy tend to have lower average ratings, suggesting that these genres face more
variability in viewer reception. Statistical analysis (mean, median, and standard
deviation) helped highlight the consistency within genres like Drama and Biography,
where viewer expectations are more aligned with content quality.

B. Duration Analysis
The average movie duration is approximately 108 minutes, with a weak positive
correlation with IMDB scores, as illustrated in the scatter plot below. Longer movies
have a slightly positive association with higher ratings, though the effect is minimal.
C. Language Analysis
The language distribution shows that English movies dominate the dataset. However,
films in languages like Japanese, German, and French tend to have higher average ratings
(7.42 for Japanese, 7.34 for German), indicating that these non-English films often
receive favorable ratings.

D. Director Analysis
Top directors, including John Blanchard and Charles Chaplin, consistently achieve high
IMDB ratings, demonstrating the importance of directorial influence on movie quality.
These directors' films typically score well above the dataset's average, highlighting their
impact on audience reception.

E. Budget Analysis
The correlation between budget and gross earnings is weak (0.11), indicating that a larger
budget does not guarantee higher revenue. Movies like Avatar, Jurassic World, and
Titanic have the highest profit margins, with Avatar achieving a profit margin of $523
million. These films exemplify how large budgets, when paired with effective production,
can result in substantial financial success.

Result
This analysis offers insights into factors that may contribute to a movie's success on
IMDB, covering genres, duration, language, directorial influence, and budget. These
findings can assist stakeholders in making informed decisions about future productions.
