CLINICAL SUPERVISION
LORENA A. CUSTACIO
School Principal IV- Naic Elementary School
I believe that the highlight of this five-step clinical supervision process is the fourth step
(post conference) for Mr. Gutierez because he was able to realize his strengths as a teacher
and it was affirmed by his principal (me). Furthermore, he was able to point out and clarify by
himself through the questions and answers that we had the areas where he needs to improve.
The activity was very rewarding for the teacher. We ended the post conference happier than
the pre-conference. On the other hand, the highlight of this experience for me is the last step,
the post-conference analysis. This is the first time that I ever did that. Clinical supervision for
me before ends with the post conference. With the analysis that I did, I was able to realize that
I still need to improve also.
With regards to the insights gained, I realized that setting the focus of the observation
and listening to the actual needs and concerns of the teacher is very important. I actually
appreciated the cycle because I recognized my own needs to improve as an instructional
supervisor.
As I contemplated on analyzing the way the post conference was conducted, I realized
that since the focus of supervision was identified by the teacher and we clearly discussed it, I
should do more researches or I should read a lot to be able to give technical assistance to the
teacher in a wider perspective. Since the teacher prepared well and and I already gave initial
technical assistance to him, If I will not be prepared, I will have nothing more to give or say.
Likewise, the post conference flow must also be designed well to be able to hit the target of
improving the teaching competencies of the subject.
