Section 1
Introduction

Agilis 91x™ Electronic Data Capture (EDC) 3.0.2 is a user exit application
that, in conjunction with SXA, allows an ATM to store journal information
electronically on the hard disk and support remote commands for the retrieval
of the stored data. EDC 3.0.2 provides support for Windows® NT operating
platform only.

NOTE

A user exit is a separate application that operates under the

direction of SXA. User exits communicate messages to
and from SXA, and SXA directs these messages to other
applications and user exits. User exits provide maximum
system flexibility by allowing you to add additional
applications designed to meet your needs.

EDC supports multiple operating modes that can be configured based on the
customer’s needs. Journal data can be handled using any combination of the
following three methods:

• Store locally to hard disk

• Store to a file that can be retrieved by a host application
• Send to host in unsolicited status message on each print request

EDC supports remote command interface (RCI) which allows a remote

application to send commands to configure EDC or retrieve EDC files. The
remote command interface can be accessed using one of the following methods:

• Dial-up telephone line

• Leased line
• ATM application

1.1 Operating Environment

This section details the hardware and software requirements for the EDC 3.0.2

Section 2
Operating Modes

EDC can operate in one, two, or three different operating modes. Depending on
the needs of your institution, you can set up EDC to use the local data file option,
the store and forward (SAF) option, the unsolicited status messages option, or any
combination of these three options. The following sections explain these options.

2.1 Local Data File Option

This option causes EDC to store information at an ATM in the local data file.
The file may reside on the ATM’s floppy diskette or on any hard (fixed) disk
drive accessible to the ATM’s operating system, including LAN drives. The
default hard disk drive is the ATM’s C: drive.

Either EDC automatically names and locates the local data file (default) or the
user specifies the path and file name for the local data file. When EDC generates
the local data file automatically, it uses a default file name of EDCLOCAL.DAT
and a default directory path of C:\Diebold\EDC.

When the user names the local data file, a full path and file name should
be specified. If only a file name is specified, EDC generates the file in the
default directory (C:\Diebold\EDC). You can use any file name that is relevant
to your installation.

The maximum size of the local data file is determined by the storage space
available on the floppy diskette or the hard (fixed) disk drive, and the limit
you set through the EDC Local Data File options. When the file approaches
maximum capacity, an error status is sent to the Terminal Control Software
(TCS) indicating a disk space low or disk full condition. You must then perform
one of the following procedures:

• Remove the floppy diskette and replace it with a blank, formatted diskette
(only for user-named local data files generated on the floppy drive).

• Copy the local data file to diskette or some other hard drive (only for
user-named local data files generated on a hard drive).

• Archive the local data file (only for local data files automatically generated
by EDC). The archive procedure copies the local data file to an archive
file, deletes the old local data file, and then prepares a new, empty local
data file for use by EDC.

2.2 Store and Forward (SAF) Option

The store and forward option stores the same type of information as the local
data file option except the SAF option stores it in a different format. The SAF
information is also accessed in a different way. A remote host computer is
capable of issuing commands that upload the EDC SAF file.

When issued, the following host commands upload the EDC SAF file:

• 0100 - Send first record

• 0101 - Send next and delete previous record
• 0102 - Delete previous record and stop

You can change the default size limit for this file (2000 records) through the EDC
SAF file options (refer to Section 4). If this file is completely filled, EDC cannot
store any more records and sends disk full fault statuses to TCS. Depending on
the setup of your institution and network, the ATM may go out-of-service.

The SAF option allows journal data to be retrieved and processed without
sending personnel to each ATM.

2.3 Unsolicited Status Messages Option

This option causes EDC to send each journal record to the host as an ATM
unsolicited status message. No journal records are stored at the ATM.

Section 3
Remote Command Interface (RCI)

EDC 3.0.2 uses the Remote Command Interface (RCI) to issue commands from a
remote source. These remote commands allow tasks such as archiving, browsing
and retrieval of the EDC local data file to be performed from a remote location.
EDC sends a response to a remote command in a pre-defined format.

The remote command interface can be accessed using one of the following
methods:

• Dial-up telephone line

• Leased line
• Terminal resident application

A supporting software application, EDCDial, supports remote commands sent

through telephone lines when an optional PC dialup feature is installed with
the EDC application.

The following paragraphs briefly describe the commands that may be issued to
EDC from a remote source. Refer to Section 5 for a detailed description of these
commands and the command responses.

Archive
The archive command causes EDC to stop using the current local data file. The
current file is renamed to the archive file-naming standard and moved to the EDC
archive directory. EDC automatically creates a new local data file when the next
print command is received from TCS.

Browse
The browse command retrieves the current local data file. The local data
continues to process transactions and is not affected by the browse operation.

Delete File
The delete file command deletes files from the EDC archive and the check
image directories.

Retrieve EDC File

The retrieve EDC file command transfers an archived EDC local data file from
the ATM to remote source which issued the command.

Get File Information

The get file information command retrieves information about the current local
data file at the ATM. The following information is included in the response:

• Current EDC status

• Last error that occurred
• Size of the local data file
• Amount of space remaining before low threshold status is issued
• Flag indicating if EDC is currently compressing an archived file

Get Directory
The Get Directory command determines the names of the files that have been
archived at a particular ATM or the list of available check image files.

Get Options
The Get Options command retrieves the current set of RCI options used at
the ATM.

Set Option
The Set Option command allows the host to set certain EDC RCI options.

Set ATM File Prefix

The Set ATM File Prefix command sets the EDC archive file prefix. It is four
characters in length and is used as the first four characters of the archive file
name generated by the EDC archive process.

Get Configuration Information

The Get Configuration information command retrieves the following EDC
configuration information from the ATM:

• Maximum size of local data file

• Low threshold value of local data file
• Archive file prefix

Section 5
Message, File, and Remote Command Formats

This section contains all the message, file, and remote command formats related
to the Electronic Data Capture (EDC) 3.0.2 user exit application.

The message build files used by previous versions of EDC are now handled
internally by the software, thereby replacing the MBU source files.

5.1 Store and Forward (SAF) Message Format

This section lists the format of the host command that is sent to EDC in order to
retrieve EDC records (Table 5-1). It also lists the EDC SAF response format
(Table 5-2). Messages received by SXA at its high-side and low-side connections
are routed to user exits, including EDC, in the order configured in SXA. EDC
processes only SAF messages that are relevant to its functionality and passes all
other messages unchanged.

EDC processes SAF commands from the host by reading the mailbox associated
with the EDCATM000 CSS LE. Responses to SAF commands are CSS written to
the SAF host.

5.3 SAF Record Format

This section lists the internal format of an SAF record (Table 5-4) that is sent to
the host after the host issues a retrieve message to the ATM. The SAF file has the
standard 40-byte file header and uses a circular file manager format containing
fixed-length ASCII (text) records. Each record will be at least 29 bytes and
should not be any larger than 1949 bytes (the default is 278 bytes).

• 0x1b ESC -> s - escape

TCS journal printer text is converted to upper-case characters,

so this translation is not ambiguous.

MAC 8 Record authorization code - used to ensure data integrity

5.5 Remote Command Message Formats

This section shows the format of the remote command messages sent to an ATM
from a remote computer (Table 5-6). All remote commands are in ASCII.
The commands consist of multiple fields with each field terminated by a field
separator character (hex 1C). If a field is not used in a message, its field separator
character is still required.

An unused field can be left empty. A terminating data separator, 0X1C, is

required after each used/unused field. The optional sequence number field is a
5-digit ASCII number. EDC does not check the sequence number in remote
commands. The remote command response message has the same sequence
number as in the remote command message that generated it, allowing a host
application to check the number (if required). If the command message does not
contain a sequence number, the command response message contains 00000 in
its sequence number field. The valid remote commands for EDC are shown
in Table 5-7.

In the following command descriptions, the examples assume that password

checking is disabled. Therefore, no passwords are sent in the remote command
messages (password field is empty for all examples). In the examples, a field
separator is represented by a ♦ (diamond) character.

Archive
The archive command causes EDC to stop using the current local data file. The
current file is renamed to the archive file naming standard and moved to the EDC
archive directory. EDC automatically creates a new local data file when the next
print command is received from TCS.

EDC uses the following convention to name archived local data files:

ppppjjjy.r

or

ppppjjjy.rCM

Where the following conditions apply:

• pppp = the file name prefix

• jjj = the Julian date

• y = the last digit of the current year

• r = the revision number (if a file gets archived more than once a day)

• CM = compressed file indicator (if auto compression of archived files is

enabled in EDC)

The default for the file name prefix is EDC. The file name prefix can be set at
the ATM through the configuration options. Other than the optional sequence
number, the Archive command uses no parameters.

EXAMPLE

EDC♦A♦♦♦12345♦♦ (archive the local data file)

Browse
The Browse command retrieves the current local data file. The local data file
can continue to process transactions and is not affected by Browse operation.
This command must be repeated, retrieving one block of data (1024-bytes)
per command, until an end-of-file status is returned in the response to the
Browse command.

Parameter 1 is the block number to be retrieved. Parameter 3 is not used.

... and so on ...

Delete File
The Delete file command is used to delete files from the EDC archive diectory
and from the check image directory.

Parm1 is a flag indicating whether the file to be deleted is in the EDC archive
directory or in the check image directory:

• E = file is in the EDC archive directory

• C = file is in the check image directory

EXAMPLE

EDC♦D♦♦E♦12345♦filename.dat (delete filename.dat from EDC directory)

Retrieve EDC File

The Retrieve EDC file command is used to transfer an archived EDC local
data file from the ATM. Block numbers start with zero and must continue
sequentially until an end-of-file status is returned in the response to the retrieve
EDC file remote command. Blocks consist of 1024-bytes of file data. After
the final data block is sent, end-of-file is sent in response to the next retireve
EDC file command (indicated in the response by a block size of zero and
block count of zero). If the end-of-file is returned in the response, no file
data is contained in that response.

Parm1 is the block number to be retrieved. Parm3 is the name of the file to be
retrieved.

EXAMPLE

EDC♦R♦♦00000♦12345♦filename.dat (retrieve block 0 of filename.dat)

EDC♦R♦♦00001♦12346♦filename.dat (retrieve block 1 of filename.dat)
EDC♦R♦♦00002♦12347♦filename.dat (retrieve block 2 of filename.dat)
...and so on...

Get File Info

The Get File Info command is used to retrieve information about the currently
active local data file at the ATM. Information returned in the response include
the current status of EDC, the last error which occurred (if any), the size of the
local data file, and the amount of space remaining in the file before a Paper Low
status is returned to TCS. The response also includes a flag indicating if EDC is
currently compressing an archived file.

No parameters are used in the Get File Info command.

Get Directory
Get Directory is used to determine the names of the files which have been
archived at a particular ATM or the list of available check image files.

Parm1 is a flag indicating whether the directory list of the EDC archive directory
or the check image directory is to be sent in the response:

• E = get EDC archive directory

• C = get check image directory

EXAMPLE

EDC♦L♦♦E♦12345♦♦ (retrieve EDC archive directory information)

Get Options
The Get Options command is used to retrieve the current set of RCI options used
at the ATM. Currently, there is only one option defined, EXP (EXPAND_FILES).

The EXP option is set when a leased-line protocol supports only ASCII
characters.

No parameters are used.

EXAMPLE

EDC♦G♦♦♦12345♦♦ (retrieve current options)

Set Option
The Set Option command allows the host to set certain EDC RCI options.
Option names are three-character IDs and must be followed by either 0 or 1 to
turn the option off or on. Only one option can be set per command. Currently,
only one RCI option exists, EXP (EXPAND_FILES). The default value of the
option is Off.

The EXPAND_FILES option is used when the leased-line protocol supports

only ASCII characters. Each nibble of file data transferred is expanded to an
ASCII printable byte.

Parm3 is the option ID followed by either 0 (Off) or 1 (On).

EXAMPLE

Set ATM File Prefix

This command sets the EDC archive file prefix, which is used during the archive
process to create the archive file name. It is four characters in length and is used
as the first four characters of the archive file name generated by EDC. The file
prefix must consist of only those characters valid in Windows filenames. The
file prefix is normally set during configuration of EDC at the terminal. This
configuration was done in the EDCOPTN utility in previous versions of EDC. In
EDC 3.0.2, this option can be set using the ATM configuration interface. The
default value of the file prefix is ’EDC_". The Set ATM File Prefix command is
provided so that a unique file prefix can be remotely set if such a setting was not
done during the EDC installation and configuration.

Parm3 is the archive file prefix.

EXAMPLE

EDC♦P♦♦♦12345♦EDCB_♦ (set archive file prefix to EDCB)

Get Config Information

The Get Config Information command retrieves most of the EDC configuration
information from the ATM. It consists of the maximum size of the local data file,
low threshold value, the archive file prefix, and other information.

No parameters are used in the Get Config Information command.

EXAMPLE

EDC♦F♦♦♦12345♦♦ (Retrieve configuration information)

5.6 Remote Command Response Message Formats

Section 6
Maintenance

The Electronic Data Capture (EDC) application in the Agilis 91x Maintenance
application allows the following operations from either the GUI or the TTU
interfaces:

• Archives current file to copy to the hard drive while preparing a new
file to accept data

• Copies a file previously archived to a floppy disk

The Electronic Data Capture, an optional feature of the Agilis 91x Software
Suite, only appears if it is installed and enabled.

For more information on the Agilis 91x Maintenance software, refer to the Agilis
91x™ Maintenance Manual (TP-820744-001B).

CAUTION

Do NOT remove the floppy diskette from the drive when

the busy light is lit. This may cause EDC to lose in-progress
transactions and may cause unpredictable results. It is also
necessary that the floppy diskette be a newly-formatted
1.44-MB floppy diskette. It must also have no other data on
it when writing to it. If your EDC local data file is larger
than 1.44 MB, you must copy the file to another directory
on the current hard drive, or to any valid path on a hard
drive accessible to your system.

6.1 EDC for the Maintenance GUI Interface

The Electronic data capture operation can only be used if it is installed and
enabled. It is a separate option for the Agilis 91x Software Suite.
