Narrator Poppy’s fish
Poppy Hi. I’m Poppy. I’ve got a pet. It’s a fish – a
red lionfish. His name is Finn. He’s about
two years old now, so he isn’t old; lionfish
can live for about ten years. I keep him in
a tank in my room. Finn eats very small
sea animals called krill – I buy them in the
pet shop. I feed Finn twice a day, once in
the morning before I go to school and
again in the evening after I have my
dinner. I change the water in his tank once
a week. Finn is quiet during the day, but at
night he’s very lively. I like lionfish
because they’re very pretty.

Narrator Marco’s snake

Marco Hello. I’m Marco. My pet is a snake. Her
name is Sylvia. She’s only a year old, so
she’s very young. Sylvia lives in a tank in
the living room. The tank isn’t very big
because Sylvia is only half a metre long:
snakes like Sylvia grow to two metres.
There’s a light in her tank, but she doesn’t
need a heater. Sylvia only eats once a
week, and she eats small rats. She
doesn’t like people watching when she’s
eating. Sometimes, I take her out of the
tank and I play with her. She’s quite shy,
but she’s happy when she’s with me.
