USING ADVERBS IN NARRATION

Hello students! Using adverbs accurately is an important step towards


communicating effectively. In this material, you will learn how to use adverbs
in narration. Use another sheet of paper in answering the different activities
that are provided. Write your answers correctly and legibly.

Background Information for Learners


Read this short narrative and answer the questions that follow.

Going back to the short narrative above, remember that the underlined words are
called ADVERBS. An adverb is a word used to modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs.

There are five kinds of adverb: manner, time, place, degree, and frequency.

These sentences tell us about the time the action is done like yesterday and tomorrow.

You are now familiar with the uses of adverb. It can be used to show manner, place,
time, degree or frequency of the verb, adjective, or another adverb in a sentence. Adverbs are
very useful in narration, too.

Activity 1
Encircle the adverb(s) used in each sentence. Tell whether it is an adverb of manner,
adverb of time, adverb of place, adverb of degree, or adverb of frequency. Write your
answer on the space provided before the number.
Example: Adverb of Manner He delivered his speech forcefully.

2. Mina cheerfully opened the package.
3. She saw different species of cactus and succulents inside the box.
4. She’s very eager to repot her plants.
5. After repotting the plants, she always talks to them.

Summative Test (15 points)
Write a detailed narrative about the recent Division Meet/ School Intramurals. Use
adverbs in writing the story. Be creative with your work. You may write or encode it in a A4
sheet of bondpaper. The rubric will guide you in doing the activity.
