INTRODUCTION
Online tutoring programs have been a
game changer for many students and
families, especially when it comes to
preparing for the Math section of the
SAT. Innovations in technology now
give students access to instant
instruction and feedback, a seemingly
endless amount of practice problems,
and an extensive library of
explanations and worked out
examples. However, is that enough to
help your child get a higher score on
the Math section of the SAT?

In this guide, I will explain what

parents should be looking for in a
good online SAT Math preparation
program. And while I have designed a
top tier program that ensures students
will ace SAT Math, even if you don’t
work with us, these guidelines will
help ensure that you can find a right
fit for your child.

CHAPTER 1
Where Most Fail
Many online SAT Math programs are
just online versions of the SAT Math
prep books you see in the book
store. They are copied word for
word, but cost you TEN TIMES more.

Other online prep programs offer

more content and technology, but
they fail in major ways. For
example, once you sign up, you
realize that it simply throws all its
content at your child in no apparent
order, giving no direction on what
to study. It leaves students feeling
lost and directionless.

Another program promises
customization on its website, but
when you buy it, you realize it
doesn’t actually customize the
program in a meaningful way.
Students take a diagnostic and then
are shown a page with assignments
and it’s unclear where to start or how
to proceed. The difficult to locate
live tutoring is facilitated by peers
who have no tutoring or Math
education experience.

So then what should a great online

SAT Math preparation program
include? After 23 years of helping
students raise test scores, I definitely
have some information to help
answer that question.
CHAPTER 2
Customization
The Math section of the SAT is
testing students on how prepared
they are for college Math courses.
If they have significant learning
gaps, they will likely not do well in
the college Math classes that
everyone is required to take.
“Preparing” to do well on the SAT
is actually ensuring students have
mastered everything they should
have learned up to that point in
high school.

A good online SAT Math

preparation course is designed to
find the learning gaps and clearly
guide students through the process
of mastering those concepts in a
way that simultaneously prepares
them for the test AND for college
math courses. It should also
include an experienced Math
teacher or highly qualified tutor to
guide them.

CHAPTER 3
Support and Accountability
Another piece to look for in a great
online SAT Math preparation
program for your child is support
and accountability. High school
students are busy, often attending
school all day, sometimes
participating in clubs or sports after
school, and then they have
homework and studying to do after
that. Some even work jobs.

With so many activities competing

with your child’s time, a truly great
program will offer live online study
sessions so students have an option
to have set times to work on the
program while having access to
expert assistance.

www.snyderelearning.com/start
Having live support while they are
studying will also help students
save time so they do not waste any
study time wondering what to work
on. Getting stuck on a problem
they can’t understand how to solve
while working alone can lead to
frustration and a lower test score.
In addition to all of this, live
support gives students added
accountability because they know
they will be “checking in” and
whether they are making progress
will be noticed. It helps for teens
to have the comfort of an expert
being on the journey with them,
supporting them every step of the
way.
CHAPTER 4
Up To Date Test Taking Strategies

The Digital SAT format was fully

utilized as of THIS YEAR (2024). It’s a
new format and old information is
still being sent out by SAT
Preparation providers.
For example, students can now use a
calculator on every question on the
new digital SAT. This is important to
incorporate in a study plan because
proper use of the calculator can save
time and help ensure students get
correct answers. However, I still see
tutoring programs stating that there
is a portion of the SAT without
calculators, which is false
information.

When you choose a program for your

child, check that the teachers and
program designers are up to date
with the changes and that the
information they are sharing is
current and reflected in the program.

CHAPTER 5
Time to Prepare
Properly preparing for the Math
section of the SAT takes TIME.
Almost every program offers support
for 12 weeks or less. Since the
recommended time for studying can
be 50 to 60 hours or more, that’s
FIVE hours a week of only studying
for the test. Your child will also have
school for about 8 hours a day,
another 2 hours of homework, and
other school activities to participate
in. A short preparation timeline leads
to students having to cram in study
time, which leads to stress,
frustration, anxiety, and a lower
score.

A better plan is to find a realistic

approach that gives your child a
longer time frame to prepare. A 30
week program that would span the
entire junior year of high school
would only take a few hours a week
AND it gives your child more time to
fill any Math learning gaps.

CHAPTER 6
Questions to ask
If you are researching SAT Prep
programs for your child to take part in,
it’s a good idea to have a call with
someone from the program before
enrolling your child to make sure it’s a
right fit for them. Here are some
questions to ask:

Is this a structured program or is it

just a tutor reviewing practice tests
and problems?
Is it customized? Will it identify
and help fill my child’s unique
learning gaps?
Are the practice questions
authentic?What kind of
accountability and support do you
provide?
What live support do you offer?
How qualified are the instructors?
Is there anything unique about your
program?
Will you keep me updated on my
child’s progress?

CHAPTER 7
Summary
Finding the right online SAT Math
preparation program involves a big
decision. Programs can be costly and
your child’s study time is valuable. If
they invest their time into the wrong
program, they will not only end up with
a low SAT score but they could also
lose the confidence and motivation to
keep studying to try for a higher score.

I’ve given you some great information

about how to find a great SAT Math
preparation program for your child so
they can reach their goal score and
unlock the doors to colleges and
scholarships! Good luck on your journey
and feel free to reach out if you have
questions or want help.

CHAPTER 7
About Us
My name is Carrie Snyder and I’ve been
teaching Math to grades 6-12 full time
for 23 years (full time online since
2010). My areas of expertise are
teaching with technology and helping
students gain a deeper understanding
of Math in ways that drastically improve
test scores.

One thing I noticed when working with

students to prepare them for the Math
section of the SAT was that ALL of the
students I was working with had
significant learning gaps. Was it from
Covid? Or was it something else?
Whatever caused the learning gaps, it
made the traditional “review” type of
preparation ineffective. The students
needed to “Re-learn” some of the
topics, not just “Re-view”.

www.snyderelearning.com/start
My response was to design customized
programs to help students fill in those
learning gaps. And while they are
building that strong foundation of Math
knowledge, we also help students
strengthen the critical thinking skills
needed for the Math section of the SAT,
give them plenty of practice SAT style
questions, and ensure they master test
taking strategies to ensure high scores.

Lastly, we offer our students lots of

“live” online teaching, support,
accountability, and guidance in their
programs.
