you have understood the lessons you had by answering these two questions.

1. What, for you, are the 2 most essential factors in analyzing the market need?
2. What important considerations should you take into account when dealing with sources
of market opportunities?
What is Marketing?
Have you ever asked yourself why a company sells more than other companies despite their
similarity in terms of the products they sell? Have you ever thought why there are organizations which
are good at enticing people to buy their goods or services? The answer to these questions lies on the
marketing of a certain enterprise. According to the Balance Small Business (www.thebalancesmb.com),
Marketing is the process of motivating or stimulating prospective clients to buy products or services.
Additionally, marketing involves a procedure by which organizations provide goods and services that
customers find valuable and develop rapport or connection with customers in order to gain profit. To
put it simply, marketing encompasses the process of satisfying a customer’s needs or wants and the
acquisition of profit on the part of the seller. Moreover, it deals with motivating customers to buy goods
or services by creating value in the products being offered.
There are three important terms that you should bear in mind in the study of Marketing, and
these are value, process, and mutual satisfaction. You have to remember that marketing is not
something that one can perform overnight, because it entails a detailed, step-by-step procedure. It goes
without saying that it requires a wide range of research, promotion, and distribution of products. The
seller should make certain that he creates value in every product that is sold. This way, customers will
be satisfied while the seller will also be pleased not only with the profit that he will acquire but more so
the satisfaction of being able to fulfill the needs or wants of a client.
To be able to encourage people to buy goods and services, it is important for entrepreneurs to
come up with marketing strategies. These strategies encompass the myriad of schemes or approaches
that may be used by companies in influencing their clients or customers to buy their goods or services.
Therefore, marketing mix is a tool that can be used in coming up with the right combination of
approaches that will encourage customers to buy goods and services.
The 4Ps constitute a standard marketing mix. These are the product, promotion, price and
place. The 4Ps of marketing mix has been very famous to most businessmen. However, the concept of
marketing mix has evolved, hence, the introduction of the 7Ps of marketing mix. The figure below
presents this modification on the tools that can be used to strategize marketing in a company. The 7Ps
are product, price, place, promotion, packaging, positioning, and people.
What does the illustration of the 7Ps of Marketing meant to you? What does it tell you? You
are right! The presentation tells you that as a future entrepreneur, you have to make certain that you
evaluate each component of the marketing mix in order to determine the best combination in your
general marketing tactic. A detailed presentation of the marketing mix will be discussed on the next
module.
