The line graph below illustrates the proportion of female members of parliament in different

European countries between 2000 and 2012


Overall, the figures of all five categories in question displayed an upward trend, with that of
the share of women working in gorverment in the UK witnessing the most dramatic rise. In
addition, the data of members in Germany consistently dominated over the period shown.
A closer examination of the data reveals that the percentage of members of parliament in
Italy started around 27%, after which it experienced a rise to 33% in 2008 , before ending
the period at nearly 40%. The figure for female representatives in France, despite being
lower, followed the same trajectory. It exhibited an escalation from 25% to
32%.Furthermore , the percentage of female members of parliament in Germany saw a
slight increase and was lower than Italy in 2012
On the other hand, 17% of women participated in parliament in Belgium in 2000, with a
subsequent increase of nearly 25% after 8 years , and a final decline to 23% in 2012. The
figure for UK stood at 3%, followed by a significant growth to its peak to 20% 8 year letter,
preceding the last surge 23%
