NOTES:
1. Prime the indicated area (annular groove) with one coat of MIL-PRF-85582
epoxy primer (C-246) prior to installation of the bearing and the nut. The primer
shall not extend to the bearing journal or the threaded area.
2. Apply a light coating of Thixosyn grease (C-172) to the bearing journal prior to
bearing installation and above the bearing to include the first three threads of
the threaded area. The annular region between the nut and the mast bearing
journal is to be filled with Thixosyn grease. Remove any excess of the Thixosyn
grease from the lower side of the bearing and restore grease coverage in the
annular groove and the first three threads of the threaded area after bearing
installation.
3. Prime and paint the indicated area after assembly with MIL-PRF-85582 epoxy
primer (C-246) and polyurethane coating (C-245).
4. After torquing the nut and prior to installing the lock ring, apply a light coat of
sealant MIL-PRF-81733 (C-251) to the nut side of the lock ring. A bead of
sealant shall cover the exposed threads up to and including the edge of the
lock ring. Apply sufficient sealant to create a slope, as shown, for proper water
dissipation.
