Learning how to compare and contrast others’ ideas can help you to be
critical and reflective on the kind of information you will feed yourself. However,
primarily, you should learn to evaluate someone’s claim first. From the word compare,
“com” means with or together and “pare” means equal. Compare means to show how
two or more things are alike. While the word contrast, from the root word “contra” means
against or opposite. So, contrast means to show how two or more things are different.
The keywords for compare are: same, also, like, ,both, alike , similar,
similarly, and as well as. For example: Both birds and cats can be pets to people .On

Every day in our lives, we watch news to update us with information. What we watch
every day are forms of media, either on TV broadcast or via online. Before, we only get
information either from newspaper or from television until online media came. Online media
is growing faster than ever and it is replacing the old types of listening to news, since most
of the people spend most of their time in social media like Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram. where most of the hottest news spread faster.
In 1998, the editor of the washing to post.com said in an interview that internet would
be replacing newspaper and TV news, because articles in this means are much faster to
spread. However, he still insisted that newspaper and TV news have more depth in terms of
information and facts. Most people can take most of their time watching the news online
because it can be easily accessed anytime as long as you have data internet connection or
Wi-Fi rather than waiting on a scheduled time on TV. Online news and TV have their good
and bad sides. It is our duty to take time and evaluate every information to know which are
facts and misleading information from the news we have watched either from television or
online.
DAY 6
Learning Opportunity
Directions: Compare and contrast television news and online news. Choose the letter of
the statement and write it in the Venn Diagram.
A Venn diagram is an illustration that uses circles to show the relationships among
things or finite groups of things. Circles that overlap (at the center) have similarities while

Learning Objectives:
1. Show understanding of messages through textual aids.
2. Determine the positive and negative messages conveyed in a text.
Learning Inputs:
Grasping the ideas of the one you are talking to or the one you are reading is
very important. If we will interact with people or learn something from what we read, we
will choose the right words to use or do the right action. However, we must have the skill
to understand the statements to avoid conflict. In this lesson, you will learn a skill in
determining whether the statement is positive or negative. Beside the use of negative
words like not or never, you must also know how to interpret whether the message
conveyed is positive or negative so you can respond properly through interpreting the
connotative meaning of a particular phrase or statement. Therefore, we should learn to
read between or even beyond the lines to give proper feedback.
DAY 1
