I Meanings :
1) Title – words used to tell us about the person
2) Caught the eye of – suddenly look at
3) Seemed a little blue – looked a little sad
4) Murmured – spoke softly in a way that it was difficult to hear
5) Skated – moved smoothly
6) Volunteer – to do something without being forced
7) Snickered – laughed in a mean way
8) Dribble – move the ball by bouncing it
9) Chorus – many people speaking or singing together.

II Answer the following :
1) Why did Maggie hate Tuesdays ?
Ans : Maggie hate Tuesdays because she has gym class and she
would be picked last by the captains.
2) Why did the class murmur when they saw Maggie’s hand go up ?
Ans The class did not believe that she possessed qualities to be a
good captain
3) ‘The class snickered at Jasmine’. How does the reaction show the
feeling of the class ?
Ans : They were mocking Jasmine and thought Maggie chose
Jasmine wrongly.
4) How did Maggie’s actions make Jasmine and Jamie feel ?
Ans : Maggie’s actions made Jamie and Jasmine feel special. They
were amazed that someone picked them first and felt grateful.
5) Who were Maggie’s team members ? What was special about her
team ?
Ans : Maggie’s team members were Jamie, Jasmine, Gillian and
George. The special thing about her team was that they were all
players who were always picked last, but they had a lot of fun when
they played together.
6) What do you think of Maggie’s trick to remember names ? How did
it help him in new school ?
Ans : Maggie gave special title for everyone . It helped her to
remember names and identify them based on their qualities.
7) Maggie picked Jamie even if he could not dribble, throw or catch’-
What does this tell us about Maggie ?
Ans : This shows Maggie is a friendly and kind girl who picked people
whom she knew would not be picked as they were not good players.
8) “I have a nickname,” Maggie thought happily. Who gave her the nick
name and why was she happy ?
Ans : Jasmine gave her the nickname. Maggie was happy because it
meant she had a friend who called her by a special name.
