Update
Overview

8.1 Overview
8.1.1 Summary for Update
1. The controlled program number is “0550249-xx.xx.”
2. When any Remote handset is installed, the Remote handset program will be
automatically updated.
However, if the same version of program as that of the updated program is installed
into the Remote handset, the program installed into it will not be updated.
The updated program for Remote handset is “REMOTE APP.”
Note)
Even without updating the program, if a different Remote handset software
version is installed into the Remote handset, the program update will be initiated
when turning ON the power supply.
Furthermore, selecting [MENU] -> 9.SERVICE -> 7.OTHER -> R-HS UPDATE
-> OFF will not update the Remote handset program.
3. Programs are updated via the MULTI port (RS-485 serial port).
“COM-1” has been set to the serial port of PC.
4. Memory clear or other operations need not to be executed. Furthermore, even if a
program is updated, saved log files and system set values will not be cleared.
However, if any change is made to the file structure, the item changed will be only
cleared and a default will be set to the said item.
5. Do not turn OFF the power supply during program transfer. If the power supply has
turned OFF, update the program again.
6. The updated program log can be checked by selecting [MENU] -> 9.SERVICE ->
6. MAINTENANCE LOG -> 3.SW UPDATE LOG.
The log is composed of an application version and date (e.g. 01:28:33
01.02.20120410).
7. Program updates are independent of the setting made by selecting [MENU] ->
9. SERVICE -> 7.OTHER -> MULTI PORT.
This setting is made for the baud rate of equipment connected. A baud rate of 57600
bps is used to update programs.

8.1.3 Verifying Program Version

FM-8900S
Select [MENU] -> 1.TEST -> 1.DAILY TEST. The number displayed in the “SOFT
VERSION” column represents the application program version of the FM-8900S.

press the [5] key.

Selecting [MENU] -> 9.SERVICE -> 5.TEST -> 1.VERSION allows verifying a
program version.

HS-8900
• Selecting [MENU] -> 5.DAILY TEST, and then pressing the [ENTER] key allows
verifying the application program version of FM-8900S.
• Selecting [MENU] -> 6. VERSION allows verifying the application program version
of FM-8900S and the version of program installed into the handset.
Object to be updated is HS-8900 (APL). HS-8900 (BOOT) cannot be rewritten.

8.1.4 Connection
Programs are updated through the MULTI-TD/RD serial port. Since this port has been
designed for the RS-485 specification, use an appropriate level converter.

8.1.5 Serial Port Setting

The serial port “COM1” of the PC has been set to the “upFM8900_57600.bat” file. If
any port other than “COM-1” is set to the file, rewrite the batch file or change the PC
port to “COM-1.”

Procedure)
1. Open the “upFM8900_57600.bat” file.
2. Rewrite the underlined parameter to the COM port number of the personal
computer.

8.2 Updating Program

It takes 10 to 15 minutes to update a program. Updating of a Remote handset program
will be automatically initiated upon completion of updating the FM-8900S.
However, if the application of Remote handset included in the updated program is the
same as that of the Remote handset whose program is updated, the program of the
relevant handset will not be updated.

Procedure)
1. Turn OFF the power supply of the FM-8900S.
2. Make a serial connection between the PC and the FM-8900S (IF-8900).
3. Open the program folder, and then double-click on “upFM8900_57600.bat.” The
Command Prompt window shown below will appear.

4. When “TARGET POWER ON” appears, turn ON the power supply of the
FM-8900S.
5. The program update will be automatically initiated. When a message saying,
“Finish version up. Please wait to be show on a display,” appears, the program
update will be completed. Subsequently, the FM-8900S will be automatically
rebooted to open the normal window.
The window of the FM-8900S remains “blacked out” while the program is being
updated. Furthermore, the Alarm LED blinks at intervals of 0.5 seconds.
6. Automatic update of Remote handset program
If the Remote handset application program is mismatched, the update of the
Remote handset program will be automatically initiated.
After completion of the update, the FM-8900S will be automatically rebooted to
open the normal window.
