NIGERIAN CLIMATE AND VEGETATION
NIGERIAN CLIMATE
● The climate of an area is the general weather of an area over a long
period.
● It is important to learn about the climate because it affects all areas of
our lives. It affects the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and even the
kind of houses we live in.
● Nigeria has a tropical climate, which means that the temperature of
the air is usually high. Hence, it is hot most of the time.
● The factors affecting climate and weather are temperature, wind,
sunshine, humidity and altitude.
● Nigeria has two main seasons: the dry season and the rainy season.
● During the dry season which usually occurs from November to March, a
dry dusty air from the Sahara Desert, known as the harmattan winds,
covers much of the country.
● The rainy season begins in April and lasts until October. It allows
farmers to plant their crops.

NIGERIAN VEGETATION
● The natural vegetation of a particular area is the ground cover that
grows without the presence of people. They can be trees, shrubs or
grass.
● In Nigeria, the vegetation of a particular area is directly dependent on
the amount of rain that falls in that area. There are three main
vegetation belts in Nigeria:
1. The swamp forest
2. The rainforest
3. Savannah
