Subject + Verb <-ed> + Complement → I climbed a tree (climb → climbed) Subject + Verb + Complement

 If the verb ends in <-e>, we add <-d> → argue → argued


 Consonant + <-y>, we change it into <-i> and add <-ed> → dry →dried Irregular verbs do NOT follow the general rule. The verb change to
 1 syllable verb VOWEL + CONSONANT, we double the C → ban → banned form the past → I went home (go → went)

Subject + DIDN’T + Verb (infinitive) + Complement Did + Subject + Verb (infinitive) + Complements + ? Yes, + Subject + did / No, Subject + didn’t
I didn’t climb the tree. / I didn’t go home. Did you climb the tree? / Did you go home? Yes, I did. / No, I didn’t.

The past simple is used to talk about a completed action in a time before now. The expressions which help us doing so are:
Yesterday / Two days ago / Three weeks ago / Last month / Last year / The month before /
