HISTORY
•
The State government acquired 1,400 acres from 1,200 farmers of
Chikkudugunta, Dammakapeta, Manuguru and Pinapaka mandals and
disbursed Rs 63 crore by way of compensation
•
The NGT(National Green Tribunal) had ordered a stay on the work on a
petition challenging the government's decision to take up the project with
subcritical technology instead of supercritical technology that is the policy of
the Union government.
•
After the TS government filed a review petition, the NGT lifted the stay and
asked the MoEF to look into the TS government’s representation and take a
decision. TSGENCO received information that the ministry had cleared the
project.
•
Chief Minister of Telangana Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao laid down
foundation stone for this project on 28-March-2015. The project started to
help resolve the power crisis in Telangana.
•
TS Govt is planning to make this plant operational within 3 years.Plant
construction is by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. MoEF has given
environment clearance to the project on 15.03.2017 and BHEL has start EPC
(engineering procurement and construction) works on war footing to
complete the first Unit by 2019.

Detailed Socio-economic survey is conducted by the District Administration and TS
GENCO jointly, has identified the Project Affected Families (PAFs) due to alienation of
land for the project.
IMPACT ASSESSMENT AND MITIGATION MEASURES
•
The environmental impacts are categorized as either primary or secondary
impacts.
•
Primary impacts are those, which are attributed directly to the project.
•
Secondary impacts are those, which are indirectly induced and typically include
the associated investment and changed pattern of social and economic activities
by the proposed action.
•
The impacts have been assessed for the proposed power plant assuming that the
pollution due to the existing activities has already been covered under baseline

IMPACT ON SOCIO - ECONOMIC ASPECTS
The project is expected to have following impending impacts that any industrialization
would create on demographic, socio-economic and health conditions of the study area.
The anticipated impacts of this project on various aspects is described as following:
1. Impact on Human Settlement
•.
There is no habitation at the project site and there will not be any displacement of the
population for this project as there is no habitations/settlements are proposed for
acquisition separately. Hence, the issue of Rehabilitation and Resettlement plan is
proposed for the agriculture land oustees only.
•.
As per the proposed project plan the nearby living inhabitants will not be disturbed,
hence the project is not anticipated to have any significant adverse impact on the
population in study area.
2. Impact on Population Growth
•.
This project will have an impact on the population growth, as it will provide some
employment to the families in the nearby villages. It is assumed that half of the
employees will be from the study area itself. The local ST/SC communities which are
4. Impact on Civic Amenities
•.
The study area has reasonably developed with improved network of roads, educational
institutions, post office, communication, entertainment and health care facilities, but
the drinking water facility for the poor and interior villages in the study area has to be
improved as it is found that these villages have scarcity of safe drinking water.
•.
The construction of new roads in the project area has enhanced the transportation
facilities. With improved transportation facilities there is always a scope for further
development. Overall a positive impact on civic amenities and improved living
conditions is expected.
5. Impact on Health Care Facilities
•.
Due to the development of the villages with infrastructure facilities like, safe drinking
water, sanitation, health centers and education facilities, the positive impact on the
health condition of the population is noted and the same is expected to continue.
•.
But the urbanization due to industrialization may have impact on health status of both
migrants and local population. The incidence of public health like, HIV/AIDS, TB and
other respiratory related issues may increase.
POSITIVE IMPACTS OF THE PROJECT DURING THE CONSTRUCTION PHASE
•
Construction workers both technical and non-technical;
•
Development of transportation and travel industry;
•
Automobile servicing centers;
•
Hotels and canteens;
•
Markets and shopping complex;
•
Labor contractors;
•
Electricals and maintenance;
•
Internet, xerox and printing;
•
Education institutions;
•
Health services sector;
•
Earth work and reclamation business;
•
Diary and goatary industry;
•
Grocery shops;
•
Other ancillary units will develop in the process of
CONCLUSION
•
The proposed project does not have significant pollution potential. With proper and
judicious implementation of the mitigation and environment management
measures, the impacts can be minimized and can be maintained well within the
permissible limits specified by the regulatory authorities.
•
This project has certain level of marginal impacts on the local environment.
However, development of this project has certain beneficial impact/effects in terms
of bridging the electrical power demand and supply gap and providing employment
opportunities that will be created during the course of its setting up and as well as
during the operational phase of the project.
