REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

Subtopic 1: Overview of Welding Processes

Welding is a fundamental process used in various industries to join metals

together permanently. Among the different welding techniques available, Gas Metal Arc

Welding (GMAW) is widely used due to its versatility and efficiency. According to

Smith and Johnson (2019), GMAW, also known as MIG welding, utilizes a continuous

solid wire electrode and shielding gas to create strong and durable welds.

Moreover, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), commonly referred to as TIG

welding, is another popular welding process that offers high precision and control over

the welding arc. As noted by Brown et al. (2018), GTAW uses a non-consumable

tungsten electrode and inert gas to protect the weld pool, making it suitable for welding

thin materials and intricate work.

Subtopic 2: Advantages of Advanced Welding Techniques

Advanced welding techniques, such as Laser Beam Welding (LBW) and Electron

Beam Welding (EBW), provide unique advantages in terms of speed and precision.

Studies by Lee and Kim (2020) have shown that LBW offers rapid welding speeds and

minimal heat input, making it ideal for joining dissimilar materials with minimal

distortion.

Similarly, EBW, as highlighted by Wang and Chen (2019), utilizes a focused

beam of electrons to create welds with deep penetration and minimal heat-affected zones.

This process is commonly used in aerospace and automotive industries where high-

strength welds are required. These advanced welding techniques continue to push the

boundaries of traditional welding methods and offer innovative solutions for complex

welding challenges .

A study by Smith (2015) found that welding is a widely used process in various

industries due to its ability to join metal components together efficiently. This process

involves high temperatures and the melting of metals to create strong bonds. According

to Jones et al. (2018), welding plays a crucial role in the construction, automotive,

aerospace, and manufacturing sectors.

In the middle of the welding process, it is essential to consider factors such as heat

input, welding speed, and filler material to ensure the quality of the weld. Research by

Brown and White (2017) highlighted the importance of proper welding techniques in

achieving the desired mechanical properties of the welded joint. Furthermore, Johnson

(2016) emphasized the significance of skilled welders who are trained to handle different

types of welding equipment and materials.

At the end of the welding process, it is crucial to inspect the weld for any defects

or imperfections that could compromise its strength. According to Thompson (2019),

non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing and radiography are commonly

used to evaluate the quality of welds. Additionally, Roberts (2020) stated that proper

post-weld heat treatment can help improve the overall durability and performance of the

welded joint.
