This supplement must be attached to the applicable FAA Approved Airplane Flight Manual when a
vapor cycle air conditioning system is installed in accordance with Fairchild Aircraft drawing number
27-84300 or 27K84300 modified by 27K84011. The information contained in this document
supplements or supersedes the basic manual only in those areas listed. For limitations, procedures, and
performance information not contained in this supplement, consult the basic Airplane Flight Manual.
Revisions to the Airplane Flight Manual provide current information applicable to operation of the
SA227-AC/BC/CC/DC aircraft. Revised pages should be inserted in the manual to replace existing
pages or to add additional pages, as applicable. The manual is valid only when all current revisions are
incorporated.

SECTION 1 . . . . . . .LIMITATIONS
The standby compass must not be used when the vapor cycle air conditioner is in operation. The
compass may be used if only the evaporator fans are in use.
MAXIMUM WEIGHTS
The placarded useful baggage compartment load (baggage and cargo) has been reduced by the
weight of the installed air conditioning equipment, as follows:

AIR CONDITIONER SYSTEM
IN OPERATION
The air conditioning system consists of an electrically powered compressor located in the rear
fuselage, a condenser unit located in the nose of the aircraft and two evaporator units located in the
forward and aft cabin. The air conditioning system may be operated using a ground power unit (GPU)
or with both generators operating. The evaporator blowers may also be used as fans in the high and
low modes without operating the air conditioning compressor.
An air conditioner AIR CONDITION – OFF – FAN rocker switch is located on the copilot's lower
instrument panel. Two evaporator blower HI – LOW rocker switches are located adjacent to the air
conditioner switch. These switches are labeled FWD EVAP and AFT EVAP. The evaporator switches
provide low and high speed operations.
Five circuit breakers provide electrical protection for the system. The name and location of the circuit
breakers are:
1. Compressor Motor (180 Amps) ........................................... Inboard side of electrical junction box
behind the pilot's seat.
2. Condenser Cooling Fans (2) (25 Amps) ............................. Inboard side of electrical junction box
behind the pilot's seat.
The compressor motors and condenser fan units are powered by the aircraft battery bus through a
power relay. The power relay and the evaporator fans are powered by the nonessential bus. When
the nonessential bus is OFF, the entire air conditioning system is disabled.
A load shedding circuit will deactivate the power relay whenever the battery bus is not powered by
both generators, or by a GPU. The power relay is also deactivated while an engine start button is
pressed in. The load shedding circuit does not affect the operation of the evaporator fans. An altitude
switch (if installed) will also automatically shut the system down when flying above approximately
10,000 feet MSL.
