Mr. Utterson was a lawyer, he looked serious but also, he was very kind to his friends.

He has a cousin called Richard Enfield.

One day while they were walking a narrow road which looked mysterious. Suddenly Enfield said ‘that building looks strange,
it reminds me a story. and started to talk about the story:

When he was walking here early in the morning and there was a short man and a girl. They bumped into(çarptı) each other.
The girl fell. The man walked over the child's body. she was screaming. He ran and caught the man. And a doctor came and
checked the girl. The man who was hit the girl looked at him in an evil way. Then everybody shouted at him for what he did.
And they wanted him to pay for the doctor. He gave £10 and a cheque (para çeki) to the girl's family. The man was a well-
known one.

The doctor was suspicious because this man had the cheque of a famous man. So, all waited until the banks were open. The
man got the money, and it was passed to child's family. he could check that building more. The windows were shut (kapalı)
but clean. And the chimney (baca) was smoking.

And the man told them his name, it was Hyde. He was a short man, looked strange. There is something wrong with his
appearance.

Then, Mr. Utterson wanted to visit his office. He had an important document. It was the will (vasiyet) of Doctor Henry Jekyll.
It said, ''If I die or disappear for more than 3 months, I leave my belongings to my friend, Edward Hyde.''

Then Mr. Utterson put the envelope (zarf) back to its place. He wanted to see his friend Doctor Lanyon. He also knew Mr.
Jekyll. But both don't know Hyde.

One day Mr. Utterson started to visit the narrow road. He thought he could see Mr. Hyde there. A few weeks later, he saw a
short man and asked

*’Are you Mr. Hyde?''

*Hyde said ‘yes, what do you want?''

*Lawyer said (Utterson)''I want to see my old friend Dr. Jekyll. May I join you?

*''He is not here. how did you know me ?'' (...)

And Hyde said'' Ok here my address, take it.''

In that street, Dr. Jekyll had a house. The lawyer went there to see him but his servant said that he was not at home.

A few weeks later , the lawyer saw Dr. Jekyll at a dinner party and asked him if he sure about his will. Dr. Jekyll’s face became
grey. He said'' I don't want to talk about this topic. you don't need to worry. I know that you met him and he was not very
polite to you , but I care about him.''

Around a year later, the people in London were terrified because of a murder. 2 men were walking in the street. A servant
girl was looking at them and she saw that one short man with a stick. And there was an old man. The short msn became
angry for some reason and started to beat the old man. The servant girl was scared, and she lost consciousness (bilinç).
After a while she called the police.

The dead body was in the street with a part of a stick. Mr. Utterson was also in the crime scene, he could recognize the dead
man. It was Danvers Carew. And it was a part of Dr. Jekyll's stick. Utterson gave it to him long time ago. And they
understood that the killer was Hyde. And Utterson said to the police ''I know where he lives.''

Then they went to Hyde's flat. and checked the flat. They could find the other part of murder weapon. Also, they found a
part of a cheque book. Utterson wanted to talk with Dr. Jekyll. Doctor looked ill.

Uttersonn said'' Did you hide something about the murder of Carew?''

Jekyll said ''Everything is fine. But I have a letter . I don't know what to do with this. Please take it''
The letter was coming from Hyde, it says'' Please don't worry about me ,I'm in a safe place.''

That evening Mr. Utterson was sitting by the fireplace (şömine) with his chief clerk (baş katip) , Mr Guest. After telling the
story ,Mr. Utterson showed him the letter. And the servant came into the room the room with a note. It was a note from Dr.
Jekyll, an invitation for dinner.

Suddenly they were very surprised when he saw the note. The two letters look very similar. like the same handwriting.

The police looked for the murderer for a long time. Because Mr. Carew was an important man.

Mr. Hyde disappeared. Dr. Jekyll became happier and calmer too.

After a few months, Dr. Jekyll didn't accept visitors. His servant said that he was ill. So he wanted to visit Doctor Lanyon but
when he saw him, he was surprised. He was an ill old man now.

''You became like Dr. Jekyll'' Mr. utterson said.

''don't say his name here''

Utterson wrote a letter to Jekyll. He asked what was happening to him and Doctor Lanyon.

Dr. Jekyll replied '' I don't blame our old friend, Lanyon but he is right. We must never meet again''

A few weeks later, Doctor Lanyon was very ill and couldn't leave his bed. And after a while, he died. Mr. Utterson had a letter
after Lanyon's death. He opened the envelope and the first sentence'' Don't open until De. Jekyll disappears or dies'' So
Utterson didn't read .

One evening Utterson was walking with Enfield in the narrow street, then they saw the house. They thought it seems that
the story finished. They won't see Hyde.

Then they saw Jekyll's house. Jekyll was looking out of the window. He looked scared and very ill.

One day, Jekyll's servant, Poole, visited Utterson. He was very worried. '' I'm worried about my master. He locked up himself
in the study for a week. Please come with me. Something terrible happening''

Poole asked quietly ''Mr. Utterson wants to see you,sir.''

''I can't see him'' Dr Jekyll answered.

That wasn't his voice. They thought somebody killed Jekyll and the murderer was still there.

Utterson said ''Your master is very ill , all of the strange things because of the illness.

Poole said'' But this man is very short, my master was a tall man''

''then we must break the door.'' Utterson said.

Utterson shouted''Jekyll,I need to see you''

The voice said'' Don't come here.''

''It's Hyde's voice. Let's break the door!'' Utterson said.

When the entered the room, a man was lying on the ground. It was Hyde. He took poison. They couldn't find Dr. Jekyll.

Next day, they found a packet for Utterson in Jekyll's room. Then they saw 3 letters there.

The 1st one was a will. He left everything to Utterson not to Hyde.

The 2nd one was a note. It was that day's date. It says;
If you are reading this, it means I have disappeared. Please go and read Lanyon's letter. Then read the confession (itiraf).

Utterson started to read Lanyon’s letter. He understood that Jekyll was doing some experiments. But they weren't
successful. He used some chemical powders and liquid. Hyde visited him one night and he showed him the experiment.

''you didn't believe Dr. Jekyll , now you will see'' Hyde said and used some chemicals and his body started to change. He
became taller and fatter. When Lanyon looked back, it was Dr. Jekyll!

Then Utterson started to read confession. He understood the life of Dr. Jekyll. Doctor wanted to be person who wanted to
have fun like other people. He had 2 types of character. He wanted to separate (ayırmak) these 2 characters in two different
bodies.

After a while he succeed that and now he had 2 characters: Dr. Jekyll - his good side and Hyde - his evil side.

At first things weren't very bad. The servants weren't scared of Hyde a lot but then Hyde started to be stronger in character
and body. Dr. Jekyll couldn't deal with the strength of Hyde. Hyde wasn’t a human .

To be as Jekyll, he started to take more doses. He took the last dose of the drug and wrote the last letter when he was Jekyll
again.

''It's true time to go. When you read my letter, Jekyll won't be alive. The life done for unhappy Jekyll.'' Jekyll wrote as the
final words of his letter.
