My name is Jyeleen Valdez.

Coming from a crazy town there was always a lot going


on; I was born and raised in Yonkers, New York. I am the oldest child out of four.
My father came to this country when he was just 8 years old,From the Dominican
Republic. Later on in life he met my mother at the age of 16 ,and she was just 13,
at the age of 17 , my mother became pregnant with me. She had to raise a Child
while still growing up.. making it hard for her to Finish school and cater to me at
the same time.

My parents never finished school and As a first person in my family to actually


prepare to go to college ,there are a lot pressure on me because I want to break
the circle in my family and they are all counting on me to get my degree. I also
want to set an example for my little sister and brothers.

My first goal in the future is to attend college, and get a degree and get a
higher education As a young adult I believe It is very important to keep developing
as not only a student but also a person, I strongly believe that education is the
key. From an early age I've always been deeply interested in becoming someone
successful.I’ve always had such a passion to become the first one in my immediate
family to actually attend college. With a college degree, I’ll have the freedom to
pursue a subject that really interests me and to guarantee the stability that my
parents yearn for. I’ll have more doors of opportunities open to me and be able to
enjoy the luxury of choice that my parents couldn’t.

My parents have always encouraged me to get a college education, emphasizing


their desire for me to have a better life than they did. im not the perfect student
, I don’t have the best scores or a list of honor rolls however, my passion for my
parents to see me graduate high school and attend college, have been enough to get
me to where I am today. As much as sometimes i want to give up in school i always
remember to keep going for myself and for my parents. my life’s main goal has been
for my parents to watch me cross the graduation stage, wearing a cap and gown.

My second & last goal in life is to join the police academy and as i further my
education in criminal justice with my degree I look forward to dedicating my self
into being a FBI agent or detective. Since I was a young girl I’ve always looked up
to law enforcement, watched crime shows, and have had a desire to be just like
them. Something that also had a huge influence on me was when I was 12 years old my
father was arrested by immigration for 6 months. The absence of my father impacted
my family immensely, myself especially. Ultimately it affected my mental status as
I felt lost and broken with out my father. I then knew I would use my life
experiences in the future to help others with the opportunity to get justice and to
follow the dreams of my career.

i feel like this school will be a great academic opportunity for me due
to all the research I’ve done. I feel like this school will help me gain many
knowledge and learn a lot more than what i know. I’m a very hardworking ,
intelligent person and i think that I will fit in this school very well.
