Question 1:
A 70 kN compressive load is applied to a 5 cm diameter, 3 cm tall,
steel cylinder.
Stress (σ):
σ=F/A
A = π × (d)^2 / 4
Strain (ε):
ε=σ/E
Deflection (ΔL): ΔL = σ × L / E
Question 2:
A prismatic bar of 10 mm diameter is subjected to different axial
forces as shown in Fig. 1.13.
Question 3:
A rod consists of three bars of unequal diameters . Their
diameters and lengths are shown in the figure. Find the stress in
each bar and the elongation of the rod. Take E = 200 kN/mm².
Bar 1: Diameter = 20 mm, Length = 1.5 m, Load = 20 kN σ = F / A
A = π × (d)^2 / 4
A = π × (d)^2 / 4
A = π × (d)^2 / 4
A = π × (0.03 m)^2 / 4 = 7.0686 × 10^-4 m^2 σ = 60 kN / 7.0686 ×
10^-4 m^2 = 84.82 MPa
Elongation 2.218 mm
