01
Justice and Fairness
are principles that revolve around treating
individuals impartially and equitably, ensuring that
everyone has equal rights and opportunities.

Justice
refers to the concept of upholding what is right and
fair, often involving legal or moral judgments.

Fairness
focuses on the impartial treatment of individuals,
regardless of their background or circumstances.
Both aim to create a society where people are
treated justly and with dignity.
02
Principles of Justice
Equality
Suggests that everyone should have equal
rights, opportunities, and treatment under the
law, regardless of their background, identity, or
circumstances. It's about fairness and
impartiality in how individuals are treated and
how resources are distributed within a society.

Equity
Focuses on ensuring fairness by taking into account
people's differing needs and circumstances. It
acknowledges that treating everyone equally might
not result in fairness because individuals have
different starting points and challenges. Therefore,
justice as equity seeks to distribute resources and
opportunities in a way that addresses these
differences, aiming for fairness and equality of
outcome rather than equality of treatment. 03
Procedural Fairness
Procedural fairness is a
cornerstone of the principle of
justice, ensures that the procedures
used to make decisions are fair and
unbiased, regardless of the
outcome. It emphasizes
transparency, impartiality, and the
opportunity for all parties to be
heard and present their case.

•How justice and fairness contribute to a society where everyone

can thrive?

One way justice contributes to societal thriving is by maintaining

order and security. When laws are enforced fairly, people feel
safe and trust in the system. This trust fosters social cohesion
and cooperation, essential ingredients for collective progress.
Additionally, justice provides a sense of closure for victims of
wrongdoing, allowing them to heal and move forward with their
lives.

Fairness, on the other hand, ensures that opportunities and

resources are distributed justly. In a fair society, everyone has
access to education, healthcare, employment, and other essential
services regardless of factors like wealth, race, or gender. This
not only promotes social mobility but also fosters a sense of
belonging and inclusion, as individuals are valued for their
contributions rather than their circumstances of birth.

Challenges and Obstacles

•Addressing inequality and systemic injustice.

Addressing inequality and systemic injustice is a moral imperative

for building a fair and just society where everyone has equal
opportunities to thrive. In recent years, there has been growing
recognition of the pervasive nature of inequality and injustice,
stemming from factors such as race, gender, socioeconomic status,
and other forms of discrimination. To tackle these issues effectively,
concerted efforts are needed at multiple levels of society, including
government policies, institutional reforms, grassroots activism, and
individual actions.

Overcoming biases and prejudices.

It is essential for fostering a more inclusive, tolerant, and equitable

society where individuals are judged based on their merits and
character rather than preconceived notions or stereotypes. Biases
and prejudices are ingrained attitudes and beliefs that can lead to
discrimination and unfair treatment of certain groups based on
characteristics such as race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual
orientation, or disability. Overcoming these biases requires self-
awareness, education, empathy, and proactive efforts to challenge
and change ingrained patterns of thinking and behavior. 07
