paperback edition for ₹ 40. In addition to a fixed weekly cost of ₹ 9,600,
the cost of printing hardcover and paperback editions are ₹ 56 and ₹ 28
per book respectively. Each edition requires 5 minutes on the printing
machine whereas hardcover binding takes 10 minutes and paperback
takes 2 minutes on the binding machine. The printing machine and the
binding machine are available for 80 hours each week. Formulate the
linear programming problem to maximise the publisher’s profit.

Minimize 𝑍 = 300𝑥 + 190𝑦 subject to the constraints:
𝑥 + 𝑦 ≤ 24, 2𝑥 + 𝑦 ≤ 32, 𝑥, 𝑦 ≥ 0.

25. Find all the pairs of consecutive even positive integers, both of which are 2
larger than 5, such that their sum is less than 23.

Find the absolute maximum and absolute minimum values of a function


given by 𝑓(𝑥) = 2𝑥 3 − 15𝑥 2 + 36𝑥 + 1 on the interval [1, 5].

33. A diet for a sick person must contain at least 4000 units of vitamins, 50 3
units of minerals and 1400 calories. Two foods, A and B are available at
the cost of Rs. 4 and Rs. 3 per unit respectively. If one unit of A contains
200 units of vitamin, 1 unit of mineral and 40 calories and one unit of
food B contains 100 units of vitamin, 2 units of minerals and 40 calories,
find what combination of foods should be used to have the least cost?

This section comprises of 3 case- study/passage-based questions of 4
marks each with sub parts. The first case study question has three
sub parts (i), (ii), (iii) of marks 1,1,2 respectively. The other case
study questions have two sub parts of 1 and 3 marks each.
36. Case-Study 1:
The shape of a toy is given as 𝑓(𝑥) = 6(2𝑥 2 – 𝑥 2 ). There are two sticks
which are perpendicular to each other placed above the toy at a point
(2,3) to balance it well.

(i) Find the abscissa of critical point? 1
(ii) Find the slope of the normal based on the position of the stick.
(iii) What will be the equation of the tangent at the critical point if it 2
passes through (2,3)?

What will be the equation of the normal at the critical point if it

Case-Study 2: Indian railways is the largest rail network in Asia and
world’s second largest. Decreasing the fuel cost can increase railway
profit and hence will improve Indian economy.
The total cost is given by the function, C(x) = 0.005𝑥 2 – kx + 5000,
0 ≤ x ≤ 15, where k is a constant.

(i) If 5 is the critical point of the function, then find the value of k. 1
(ii) Find the intervals in which the function is strictly increasing or 3
decreasing.
OR

Find the points of local maxima or local minima if any, in the interval
(0, 15) as well as the local maximum/ minimum values of the function.
38. Two factories decided to award their employees for three values of
(a) adaptable to new techniques, (b) careful and alert in difficult
situations and (c) keeping calm in tense situations, at the rate ₹ x, ₹ y
and ₹ z per person respectively. The first factory decided to honour
respectively 2, 4 and 3 employees with a total prize money of ₹ 29000.
The second factory decided to honor respectively 5, 2 and 3 employees
with the prize money of ₹ 30500. If the total amount awarded for one
prize on each value is ₹ 9500, then:

(i) Represent the above situation by a matrix equation and form
