Section A: Very Short Answer Questions (1 mark each)

1. Define the principal focus of a concave lens.


2. What is the function of the iris in the human eye?
3. State the relationship between the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection.

Section B: Short Answer Questions (2 marks each)

(5 × 2 = 10 marks)

4. Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of an image by a convex lens when the object
is placed between the optical center and the focus.
5. Why is the sky blue in color? Explain briefly.
6. A student sitting in the last row of the class is unable to read the writing on the board
clearly. Name the defect of vision he is suffering from and its possible cause.
7. List two uses of concave mirrors.
8. Explain the phenomenon of dispersion with the help of a prism diagram.

Section C: Long Answer Questions (3 marks each)

(4 × 3 = 12 marks)

9. A concave mirror produces a real image of size equal to the object. If the focal length of
the mirror is 10 cm, find the object distance and the image distance.
10. Explain the working of the human eye, mentioning its key parts and their functions.
11. Derive the mirror formula and explain the terms involved in it.
12. Describe the process of the formation of a rainbow. Why does it appear as a spectrum of
colors?
