Liturgical Calendar 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Opening Song: Christ Be Our Light (STAND)

Longing for light, we wait in darkness.
Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people,
light for the world to see.
Chorus: Christ be our light!
Shine in our hearts.
Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light!
Shine in your church gathered today.
Longing for peace, our world is troubled.
Longing for hope, many despair.
Your word alone has power to save us.
Make us your living voice.

P: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen
P: The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.

Entrance Antiphon
You are just, O Lord, and your judgment is right;
treat your servant in accord with your merciful love.

Penitential Act (KNEEL)

P: Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to
celebrate the sacred mysteries. (Pause)
All: I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly
sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed
to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I
ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and
sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
P: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting
life.
All: Amen.

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy, have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy, have mercy on us.

Gloria (STAND)
Chorus:
Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God in the highest
and on earth, peace on earth, peace to people of good will.
1. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you,
We give you thanks for your great glory
Lord God, heavenly King.
O God almighty Father
2. Lord Jesus Christ, only Begotten Son. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father
You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us
You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer
You are seated at the right hand, the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us
3. For you alone are the Holy One, You alone are the Lord
You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ
With the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father.
Amen, Amen

Collect (STAND)
Let us pray.
O God, by whom we are redeemed and receive adoption,
look graciously upon your beloved sons and daughters,
that those who believe in Christ
may receive true freedom
and an everlasting inheritance.
Through our lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
All: Amen.
Liturgy of the Word

First Reading (Is 35:4-7a) (SIT)

A reading from the Book of Isaiah:
Thus says the LORD:
Say to those whose hearts are frightened:
Be strong, fear not!
Here is your God,
he comes with vindication;
with divine recompense
he comes to save you.
Then will the eyes of the blind be opened,
the ears of the deaf be cleared;
then will the lame leap like a stag,
then the tongue of the mute will sing.
Streams will burst forth in the desert,
and rivers in the steppe.
The burning sands will become pools,
and the thirsty ground, springs of water.
The Word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm (SIT)

R. Praise the Lord, my soul!
1. The God of Jacob keeps faith forever,
secures justice for the oppressed,
gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets captives free.
2. The LORD gives sight to the blind;
the LORD raises up those who were bowed down.
The LORD loves the just;
the LORD protects strangers.
3. The fatherless and the widow the LORD sustains,
but the way of the wicked he thwarts.
The LORD shall reign forever;
your God, O Zion, through all generations. Alleluia.
Second Reading (Jas 2:1-5) (SIT)
A reading from the Letter of James:
My brothers and sisters, show no partiality
as you adhere to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.
For if a man with gold rings and fine clothes
comes into your assembly,
and a poor person in shabby clothes also comes in,
and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes
and say, “Sit here, please, ”
while you say to the poor one, “Stand there, ” or “Sit at my feet, ”
have you not made distinctions among yourselves
and become judges with evil designs?
Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters.
Did not God choose those who are poor in the world
to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom
that he promised to those who love him?
The Word of the Lord.
All: Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation (STAND)

R: Alleluia, Alleluia.
Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the kingdom
and cured every disease among the people.

Gospel (Mk 7:31-37) (STAND)

P: The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
P: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark
All: Glory to you, O Lord
Again Jesus left the district of Tyre
and went by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilee,
into the district of the Decapolis.
And people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment
and begged him to lay his hand on him.
He took him off by himself away from the crowd.
He put his finger into the man’s ears
and, spitting, touched his tongue;
then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him,
“Ephphatha!”— that is, “Be opened!” —
And immediately the man’s ears were opened,
his speech impediment was removed,
and he spoke plainly.
He ordered them not to tell anyone.
But the more he ordered them not to,
the more they proclaimed it.
They were exceedingly astonished and they said,
“He has done all things well.
He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise To You, Lord Jesus Christ.

Homily (SIT)

Nicene Creed (STAND)

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and
invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before
all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was
incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius
Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with
the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will
come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the
Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the
prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the
forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world
to come. Amen.

General Intercessions (STAND)

P: As we reflect upon the Word of God and celebrate the visit of Pope Francis to our city,
let us offer our prayers with faith and hope.
R: Lord, hear our prayer.
1. For Pope Francis, all bishops, priests, and the faithful, that they may be filled with the
Holy Spirit to listen to and live the Word of God in every word and deed, we pray to
the Lord…
2. For the leaders in Indonesia and all involved in interfaith dialogue, that they may
continue to sow seeds of love and fraternity amidst diversity, and strengthen the
foundations of peace, we pray to the Lord…
3. For those who are suffering—whether physically, mentally, or spiritually—that they may
find strength in the healing Word of God and comfort from our faith community, we
pray to the Lord…
4. For every member of our community, to take inspiration from the spirit and humility of
Saint Peter and Saint Teresa of Calcutta in facing hardships, planting new hope in
various endeavors, never tiring of dreaming and doing more for the church and
society, we pray to the Lord…
5. With gratitude for Pope Francis' visit, that this visit may leave a lasting imprint on all
our hearts and strengthen our bonds as brothers and sisters in faith, we pray to the
Lord…
6. We pray for those intentions offered for Mass and for our personal intentions… Let us
pray to the Lord.
P: Heavenly Father, we bring these prayers to You, confident in Your infinite mercy and
love. May the seeds of faith, hope, and compassion sown during Pope Francis' visit
bear fruit in our lives and in the lives of all who seek You. We ask this through Christ
our Lord.
All: Amen

Liturgy of the Eucharist (SIT)

Offertory Song: I Offer My Life

All that I am, all that I have.
I lay them down before You, O Lord
All my regrets, all my acclaim.
The joy and the pain, I’m making them Yours.
Things in the past, things yet unseen,
Wishes and dreams that are yet to come true
All of my hopes, all of my plans.
My heart and my hands are lifted to You
Lord, I offer my life to You
Everything I've been through
Use it for Your glory
Lord I offer my days to You
Lifting my praise to You
As a pleasing sacrifice
Lord I offer You my life
Invitation To Prayer (STAND)
P: Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the
almighty Father.
All: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good and the good of all his Holy Church.

Prayer Over the Offerings (STAND)

O God, who give us the gift of true prayer and of peace,
graciously grant that, through this offering,
we may do fitting homage to your divine majesty
and, by partaking of the sacred mystery,
we may be faithfully united in mind and heart.
Through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.

Preface (STAND)
P: The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
P: Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them up to the Lord
P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right and just
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks, Father most holy,
through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ,
your Word through whom you made all things,
whom you sent as our savior and Redeemer,
incarnate by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin.
Fulfilling your will and gaining for you a holy people,
he stretched out his hands as he endured his Passion,
so as to break the bonds of death and manifest the resurrection.
And so, with the Angels and all the Saints
we declare your glory,
as with one voice we acclaim:
Holy (STAND)
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts.
Heaven and earth are full, are full of your glory.
Hosana! Hosana! Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes, who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosana! Hosana! Hosanna in the highest.

Communion Rite (STAND)

P: At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to sing:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
P: Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant us peace in our days, that,
by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
All: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever.

Sign Of Peace (STAND)

P: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles “Peace I leave you, my peace I give you;
look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace
and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever and ever.”
All: Amen
P: The peace of the Lord be with you always.
All: And with your Spirit.
P: Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: Grant us peace.

Reception of Communion (KNEEL)

P: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed
are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and
my soul shall be healed.

Communion Song 1: Come Share The Lord

We gather here, in Jesus name,
His love is burning in our hearts like living flame.
For through the Loving Son, the Father makes us one;
Come, take the bread. Come, drink the wine. Come share the Lord.
We"ll gather soon, where angels sing;
We"ll see the glory of our Lord and coming King;
Now we anticipate the feast for which we wait.
Come, take the bread. Come, drink the wine, Come share the Lord.
For He will feed us with His presence here,
This bread and wine will do us good.
Our deepest hungers He will satisfy,
For He is life and peace and rest and drink and food.
He joins us here, He breaks the bread.
The Lord who pours the cup is risen from the dead.
The One we love the most is now our gracious host.
Come take the bread, come drink the wine. Come share the Lord.
No one is a stranger here, everyone belongs;
Finding our forgiveness here, we in turn forgive all wrongs.
We are now a family of which the Lord is head;
Though unseen He meets us here In the breaking of the bread.
Communion Song 2: A Claire Benediction
May the Lord show His mercy upon you
may the light of His presence be your guide
May He guard you and uphold you
may His Spirit be ever by your side
When you sleep may His angels watch over you
when you wake may He fill you with His grace
May you love Him and serve Him all your days
Then in heaven may you see His face

Communion Antiphon
Like the deer that yearns for running streams,
so my soul is yearning for you, my god;
my soul is thirsting for god, the living god.

Let us pray:
Grant that your faithful, O Lord,
whom you nourish and endow with life
through the food of your Word and heavenly Sacrament,

that we may merit an eternal share in his life.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
All: Amen.
