Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

Water is an important basic need for all people


There is a great need for water because there are many people living in our country.
Pollution, and people who waste water, make this problem worse. All living things rely on
water and will die without it.

We get our water from rivers, reservoirs, and dams. We need clean water for drinking,
cooking and to grow healthy food. Humans, animals and plants cannot drink seawater
because it is salty. Farms can only produce healthy crops if there is a good clean supply of
water.

Detergents like washing powder and dishwashing liquid are made from chemicals. These
chemicals cause dirt to attach itself to water. This water must be cleaned before we can
use it again. All water that we drink and use in our houses has been cleaned. Our water is
cleaned at a water purification point.
