have established themselves either as entrepreneurs, men of repute or great scientists.
The alumni still remain connected with institute. The college has the vision of
bringing the downtrodden and marginalized section of people to the main stream. The
alumni of the college are greatly influenced by this vision of the college. The alumni
attend the alumni-meet every year with great eager and enthusiasm. They are
associated with mentoring the students of various branches. Many of them are invited
to share their experiences with the students. They have also contributed to designing
some value added courses as per the industry requirements. They are also invited to
conduct grooming sessions and pre-placement talks. Many of the students of this
college have joined high profile jobs. Many other have become established
entrepreneur. Some of the alumni are emotionally attached with the college that they
never fail to come to college, after they return to their home-town in Amravati from
their distant working places. During their visit to college, they prefer to stay in the
campus throughout the day. They keep interacting with the students, teachers and
other stake holder. The college understands that, the alumni are the real assets of the
college, and this feeling is vice-versa. During conduct of alumni-meet, the college
makes wide publicity through platforms of media and through personal
communication. During the meet, the office bearers of the alumni association are
elected unanimously.
The alumni association is registered.

We feel extremely elevated to put on records that the alumni make all arrangements
for the industry visits to their respective industry and organizations. During the
course of industry visit, they conducted quizzes and puzzles for the students and bet
performers were suitable rewarded in terms of prizes, cash, or letter of appreciation.

sprawling 10 acres of land. It has lush green campus. The college maintains all the infrastructure from the
funds generated from students fees. The student fees is the main source of revenue of the college. Approx.
99% of the students admitted in the college receive scholarships from various government schemes, which
constitutes major source of revenue of the college. The rest of the students are admitted on full-fee basis.
But since they all belong to downtrodden and marginalized rung of society, they are unable to pay the fee.
Most of the fee of these category of students are relaxed by the institution, as this policy of fee concession
is in alignment with vision and mission of the college.

The college has big set of playgrounds which is shared by the sister institutes nearby. The college’s
seminar hall and auditorium are used for conducting Vipassana camps which normally is conducted twice a
year. The Vipassana camps records the participation upto 100-150 males and females each time. All the
participants are provided free accommodation and food in the campus during these 10 days in the
vipassana camps.

The façade of the college building faces the main road, where there are 03 shops which have been let-out
on rent. One of these shops is given to Indian Post, the other two are given to co-operative stores.

The rent generated from these sources roughly comes to around Rs. 25000/- per year.

The college resources like internet connection and solar power generation etc are shared by the sister
institute like Ramkrushna Mahavidyala Darapur, Ramkrushna Junior College Darapur, Vikramshila
Polytechnic Darapur.

In case of financial crunch, the trust of the college comes forward to its rescue and help. Loans are
advanced by the trust during emergency needs.

Response:

Our college promoted an attitude of tolerance and inclusiveness. The students from belonging to different
religious, racial and cultural identities are admitted in the college based upon their preferences and merit.
Celebration of various days and events promoted the spirit of national integration. No discrimination is
ever done on the basis of caste, colour and creed. Every student is equally treated and an environment of
toleration and belief is also maintained.

Extension activities, projects, field visits, educational tours helped the students to develop an inclusive
environment

Socio Economic: The College imparts education to the poor, downtrodden masses. The students from rural
areas prefer our college, as they know that the college caters to their needs, support and encourages
becoming responsible citizens. The Entrepreneurship Cell plays a key role for socio-economic
development.

Linguistic: The students from other states are treated at par with the students from this state. The
Language laboratory has been established to train the students to compete at the international level and
facilitate them to work with multinational companies.

Cultural Amalgamation: The institute acknowledges the diversity of the student population and
understands the importance of promoting cultural awareness. Festivals of every religion are celebrated with
enthusiasm by involving students of every community in our college. The events like traditional cooking,
ethnic designing and stitching, developing and performing arts are organised.

Constitutional obligations: The college has a N.S.S. unit. It enables students to understand the community
in which they are living. The sense of social and civic responsibility is definitely developed through N.S.S
unit. Many programmes, workshops, seminars, guest lectures are regularly conducted relating to
Constitutional obligations. Constitution Day is celebrated on 26th November every year in the college.
Constitution Day Rally is also organized to make students and community aware about constitutional

7.2 Best Practices

7.2.1 Describe two best practices successfully implemented by the Institution as per NAAC format
provided in the Manual

Response:

Best Practices

Title of the Practice: Innovation and Incubation Cell

Objective of the Practice: The college has an Innovation and Incubation Cell to impart innovation and
entrepreneurship among students.

Objectives of the practice are:

1.To enhance the entrepreneurial spirit.

2.To provide entrepreneurial knowledge.

3.To provide a platform for inculcating entrepreneurial skills in students.

4.To encourage students to get self-employed.

5.To organise Entrepreneurship Development Programms and Workshops.

6.To motivate the students for participation in start-ups.

The Context:

Many students are from agriculture background having agricultural resources for self-employment; but the
fear of risk stops the students to indulge in entrepreneurship. It is often observed that students have skills
and entrepreneurial abilities, but require nurturing and incubation. Creating new products, services and
stimulate employment is the aim of I & I Cell.

The Practice:

The platforms created by the college inspired the students to bring out innovation in the field of
technology, commerce and management. The students of civil engineering have created a business model

Page 67/80 02-07-2023 08:29:40

Self Study Report of DR. SAU. KAMALTAI GAWAI INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY,
DARAPUR
which was appreciated by all.

MoU is signed with Maharashtra Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, to strengthen the activity.

Evidence of Success:

The students acquired skills of learning by doing. The model of "Optimizing the Use of Steel in
Construction Work" developed by the students has proved extremely useful. Steps towards developing
skills in communication, decision making, networking, time management, team building, presentation,
negotiation and social skills were certainly acquired by the students. Some of students started their own
enterprises in Building and construction, software companies, automation centres, etc. An insight to
develop opportunities of self-employment with the available resources and skills is developed.

Problems Encountered and Resources required to implement the Practice:

The college is located in far-flung area which is connected by narrow roads so travelling to the market
places is always a matter of great discomfort. The incubators like Banks and other expert guiding centers
find it difficult to travel to this location. Initial funding, financial resources, risk bearing and marketing are
yet other issues faced by the students. Moreover, to build trust among students takes time as many of them
hail from rural and tribal areas. Getting and staying organized, determination and learning, balancing the
schedule including marketing and sales activities are a constraint among the students.

Best Practice 2

Title of the Practice: Adoption of Village

Objectives of the Practice:

As a part of social life, community services start at school and college level. The college has adopted the
native village. The students are given an opportunity to connect with the village folks and develop a sense
of commitment for team work.

Few objectives are –

To broaden the perceptions of the world around the students.

To help the students to establish the communication with the surrounding.

To inculcate values and develop a sense of social responsibility among students.

To understand social problems of the society.

To develop Personality of student.

To build confidence among students.

Page 68/80 02-07-2023 08:29:40

Self Study Report of DR. SAU. KAMALTAI GAWAI INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY,
DARAPUR
The Context:

The outreach activities give life lessons which complement the academic knowledge of the students. The
commitment to stick to the mission of the institution is the driving force for the selection of the practice.
During rendering services to the village, the students inculcated discipline, sincerity, devotion which taught
them to be responsible, secular and committed human beings; which is the need of hour. Our institute is a
premier institute of excellence in knowledge building and social development.

The Practice:

Students and staff are actively engaged in carrying out community activities in the adopted village. The
institutional base is expanded by the activities undertaken for the development of the village. The various
outreach activities were conducted by NSS and alumni in the village like tree plantation, cleaning,
development of study Centre, organizing counseling activities in the village for the needy and particularly
for the students. Knowledge sharing and interaction with lactating mothers was done in the village during
International Breast Feeding week every year. Celebration of International Water Day, Earth Day,
International Day for the Disabled, etc, have contributed to create awareness among the villagers towards
missions and goals of United Nations which concern larger societal needs.

Students participated in Swachha Bharat Abhiyaan at the village. Students distributed food and clothes to
the needy. Tree plantation is a regular outreach activity and seed ball were prepared and thrown on the
barren land by the students of our college. Special NSS camps were held at the nearby villages like
Khartalegaon, Dhamori, Vaigaon for seven days every year to inculcate social sensibility among the
students.

Communication skill development, social responsibility, willingness to serve the society, helping nature,
ability to understand the problems of common man, ability to face the natural calamities, leadership skill,
connecting to people and enabling volunteerism are the outcome of the practice. The Cleanliness drives
and Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan programms are duly acknowledged by the villagers.

Problems Encountered and Resources Required to Implement the Practice: Sometimes, student
participation is difficult due to the academic schedules. Parents are not willing to send their wards to
participate in social emersion. Passive participation of villagers and local representatives, lack of
awareness and misconception about the Governments welfare schemes are major hurdles in organizing
students outreach activities. To arrange outreach activities, sufficient financial aids are required. These
activities are mainly carried out by the Institution's funds and contribution from the teachers. Financial
contribution from the students is difficult because most of the students are belonging to economically
weaker section.

It is rarely seen that families are living jointly. Children are busy spending their time in their own virtual
world or hanging out with friends. Sharing, living together, sacrificing simple things, has become difficult.
The major challenge, parents are facing, is teaching the child moral values, preventing children from the
excessive use of gadgets, developing social and economic growth. Adoption of villages is instrumental in
developing sense of belongingness among the students and the villagers. It also helps to develop the spirit
of working together, task management, actually knowing each other, sharing and connecting.

The other best practices except the two mentioned above, may be accessed through the given links.

7.3 Institutional Distinctiveness

7.3.1 Portray the performance of the Institution in one area distinctive to its priority and thrust
within 1000 words

Response:

Prioritising ways for attaining the mission of imparting quality education and providing facilities for
acquisition of knowledge to the rural and tribal students of Amravati districts is one of the major
distinctiveness of this college. We have made available maximum facilities and programmes under one
roof. Starting with few courses at undergraduate level, now the institute has five undergraduate
programmes in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Three Postgraduate programmes in the
Faculty of Engineering and Technology and One Ph.D. Programme in Mechanical Engineering. The
college has started one new add-on program in Data Science this year in addition to existing four already
being conducted. The college is affiliated to the Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University and hence the
programs as offered by the Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University have to be adhered to. What makes our
college distinctive is that this college has maximum number of students from rural and remote area who are
marginalized in all the ways. Taking modern education at the doorstep of the students inhabiting
inaccessible areas is a challenging task. The college provides learning with the use of ICT and maximum
facilities and infrastructure conducive to run these programs. The college has been making all possible
efforts to provide Inclusive education. The lush green campus of the college and huge playgrounds in the
college provide opportunities to the students to remain active through games and sports played in pollution
free ambience.

This college has also made great efforts to ensure inclusion of differently-abled students into main stream
education, by the provision of computer and assistive technology training, reading, listening and writing
facilities, organizing outreach programmes etc. The institute has one unit of NSS which constantly carries
out activities related to value education, social and community works, etc. for the holistic development of
the students. The college, being a prominent educational institute, is well prepared to meet the challenges
of a rapidly changing techno-savvy world. The primary focus of institute is on excellence in core mission
activities of teaching, secular approach, conscious efforts to promote values, inclusiveness of all
diversities, extension and outreach activities, and practically focused quality learning experience
empowering students by providing them with all possible opportunities in various fields, wide range of
extension activities through NSS. The student visit survey sites and other industrial premises, etc for
gaining experiential learning. The Department of sports has mentored number of students for the
performance of sports activities which has shown extra ordinary talents and brought laurels to the institute.
The college practices and prioritizes student–centered teaching and learning. Every year, meritorious
students have achieved new heights of success and a notable numbers of students from various disciplines
secured better place in university merit list including the results of the current academic year. We
attempted to maximize academic skills, social skills, athletic skills and entrepreneurial skills of our
students. Students are encouraged by providing them with adequate opportunities in all forums and
appreciating them for their efforts. The Innovation and Incubation Cell in the institution has now further

expanded in establishing the ‘Entrepreneurship Cell’. The Career Counseling Cell of the college has been
guiding the students to prepare for various competitive examinations. Competitive Exam Guidance &
Coaching Centre Language Laboratory, Health Centre Yoga & Meditation Centre Gym and Fitness Centre,
Indoor Sports Facility, Student Development Cell, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, etc. are some of
the important areas the college shows its concern with. The college has successfully organized grooming
sessions and the pre-placement talks by the experts from local industries. Some of the students have also
been placed in nearby companies through off-campus mode of placement drive. The college is one of the
nodal centres to conduct outreach programme. The college has also developed a learning management
system and to achieve self-paced learning. Keeping in view the vision of institute, we have strived hard to
achieve the mission and goals to impart quality education to poor, downtrodden masses and provided
facilities for equitation of knowledge, information and advancement of culture.

The Management, teaching staff and supporting staff have been working united to achieve our objectives
of transformed society of knowledge and skill by effectively blending the quality teaching, skill
development measures and instilling skills among them either to be job-ready or job giving professionals.
Special Guidance is provided by the best teachers who are very empathetic and compassionate.
Decentralization of administration is effectively implemented through IQAC. The staff of the college is
given incentives in terms of prizes and letters of appreciation to keep them ever-motivated. The quest for
excellence has to be fulfilled, a value system has to be inculcated, and global competencies are to be
