Case Study:
You are an Information Systems (IS) expert who works as a freelance consultant,
providing advice to Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) with respect to their IT
needs. You have been hired by ABC Ltd, a London-based company selling electronic
goods online. Its mission is to expand with distribution centres in Manchester and
Edinburgh in addition to its headquarters warehouse in London. The company also
considers expanding into the EU market and perhaps enter more international
markets in Asia, Africa and the US. This year the business wishes to make online
sales available to all EU countries. You are required to produce a report to
encompass an analysis of the host company‘s strategic management of information
and information systems. The report must discuss a number of issues that the
organisation needs to reflect on. In your report you need to explain the strategic
management principles the organisation needs to adhere to and explain the different
types of IS that must be in place. You need to explain the process that must be
followed to manage any IT projects and suggest the most appropriate systems
development model to be adopted. You should determine digital business models
that can be used for the online sales process, while discussing any BIS necessary
for the organisation such as ERP, CRM and SCM. You should focus also on any
globalisation issues, and reflect on networking aspects such as social networks,
Web .0 and IR4.0. You should explain how you would follow an agile approach in
your project, and explain the impact of your recommended IS in society with
emphasis on ethics, privacy and security. You should conclude with a proposed CSR
strategy and also specific guidelines on gaining competitive advantage through the
use of Business Intelligence (BI), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Intelligent
Environments (IE).

Scenario:
Each student will have to investigate possible SME companies that would be suitable
for this coursework and should provide a brief description of the company, including
key facts and description of key functions. This description should not exceed a
single A4 page and should be included at the beginning of the individual report.
