Bible Text: Luke 11:1-2

Prayer

Father in the name of Jesus, blessed be Your name for this teaching tonight,
be Thou exalted in Jesus Christ's mighty name. We pray to the Lord that You
will take perfect and total control of the teaching tonight in Jesus Christ's
name. Bless both the sower and the soils in Jesus Christ Name. Make us
fertile enough to reproduce good works out of our lives to the glory of Your
Holy name in Jesus Christ's mighty name we pray. Amen.

Introduction

Today, we will look at a topic that exposes the mind of God to us as humans.
It is what God wants every of His children to understand as it pleases Him
so well. Bible Text

Luke.11.1 - Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when

He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as
John also taught his disciples."

Luke.11.2 - So He said to them, "When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as
it is in heaven.

Study

Often than not, whenever we hear "will of God", we tend to think it is the
will of God in marriage. We are partly true but, the "will of God" does not
only mean marriage wise. The marriage part is just a part of it. Have you
ever wondered and thought that "how sure are we that we are even living
our lives the way we ought to live it?" And, that is the truth. Don't you ever
think it is dangerous to live without direction in this cruel world? Definitely,
it is. However, one thing you should understand is that the moment we were
created in heaven and sent to the Earth, there was something written of us
in heaven. So, every man is expected to be an actor here on Earth to act out
everything that has been written in heaven. It is like having a template and
just building on it. The template had already been given in heaven, each

person is just expected to build it out here and follow it well. This is what is
leading us to what the will of God means.

What is the will of God?

Firstly, let us look at our text;

Luke 11:1-2:

"And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he

ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John
also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our
Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy
will be done, as in heaven, so in earth."

According to our text here, we see that there is a sentence termed "the will
of God". Jesus Himself said it as part of the Lord's Prayer because there is no
way you can communicate effectively with God without obeying His will.
This is why "the will of God" is present in the Lord's Prayer. For every single
person on Earth, whether you are born again or not, there was a written will
in heaven concerning your life before you were born but for you to fulfill
such will, you must align with the giver and writer of such will. For example,
we know that when a wealthy man dies, we always hear that he wrote his
will before he died on how his properties should be shared. Sometimes, the
children of such men will begin to war against themselves just to see that
they get the highest share of the will.

Now, let me ask you a question, will the wealthy man who wrote this will
give any of his properties to a stranger who he never knew and who didn't
approach him? No! Why? Because he does not know such a stranger and will
therefore not share any of his will with him. Same applies to God, for you to
know His will and be able to play it out as it has been written in heaven, you
have to know Him and be His child, else, even though His will has been
written concerning your life, you will still end up not fulfilling it. The will of
God is the plan and purpose of God for you in a particular area. It is simply
what God has in mind for you to become. There are many out there that if
only they had followed the will of God for their lives, they wouldn't have
been where they are now. The will of God is the mind of God for a person. It
is how God expects the person to put things into action. The will of God is
always to do. Any will of God that is very easy to accomplish should be
scrutinized well again, to avoid listening to the devil. Why? The will of God
is mostly hard to fulfill and follow. God might be telling you to follow a
particular place, whereas in the normal sense, it is a forest that is situated

there. It takes obedience for you to obey such because it will sound stupid
to an average normal human being. If such a person does not stick to strict
obedience to God, he/she will find themselves outside the will of God.

Let me use this example to explain the will of God to us once again.

For example, the moment a person joins the army, there is automatically
what that soldier is expected to do, which is to protect the country and be
loyal. That is what has been written in the army's constitution concerning
every person that joins the armed force of the country. So, when a person
now joins the army and begins to secretly join the enemy against the peace
of the country, is such a soldier fulfilling the will of the country? No!

The two kinds of will of God

1. The permissive will of God:

This is often seen as God allowing certain events or decisions to occur even
if they may not align with His ideal plan. It emphasizes God's sovereignty
and the freedom He gives to individuals.

Deuteronomy 30:19:

"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before
you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life that both
thou and thy seed may live:"

One attribute of God is that He has given humans the power to choose. Even
though He has in mind what He wants us to do, He never enforces His will
upon us. When a person goes out of the will of God and God allows it, it is
called the permissive will of God because it didn't happen without God
knowing and allowing it to. But, He only allowed it because of the freedom
He gave unto man. Many people have gone out of the perfect will of God
into His permissive will without knowing. They are doing things that God
does not have in mind for them to do, but He is allowing it because He is
giving them the freedom to choose their will.

Matthew 19:7-8:

"They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of
divorcement, and to put her away He saith unto them, Moses because of the
hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the
beginning it was not so."

This is exactly what the permissive will of God looks like. Even though it
does not align with God's perfect will, yet, He allows it because of some
reasons or because He chooses to give everyone the free will to choose
between good and evil. Sometimes, when a Christian becomes so pressured
and decides to marry that person who is not the exact replaced bone or
flesh of his, God might just decide to allow it and such a couple might be
compatible to a reasonable extent but it doesn't mean it is the perfect will of
God for such a person.

2. The perfect will of God

This refers to God's ideal or optimal plan for individuals. It represents what
God desires for His people and is often associated with obedience to His
commands. It is exactly what has been written of every person in heaven
and expected by such a person to play it out on Earth. That is the will
spoken of by Jesus Christ in "The Lord's prayer".

Romans 12:2 (NIV) -

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what
God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

You will know the will of God by not conforming to this world and through
the transformation of the renewing of the mind. There are many aspects of
the will of God in this present time. Some are:

The will of God in Marriage- This aspect is one of the major aspects the
devil tries to make Christians make mistakes. He knows that once he allows
his daughter or son to marry any child of God, then he will have control
over the home and disturb such home especially if you are a minister of God
who is pulling down the kingdom of hell and you are not married yet, he
will do all he can to see that you marry his son or daughter because he will
want to pull down the ministry of God in your hands. This is why every
young minister needs to be very watchful, careful and sensitive when
choosing a life partner. Note that there are different persons that would
have been created for each person by God, I mean that there are people
whom you might be able to marry and there won't be war. But, there is
always someone who will fit your life more than others. There will be a
person that would have been created specially for you by God. Just the way
Adam located his second wife and knew that it is his perfect woman, there
is also that perfect and exact man or woman for you. When I say perfect, it
doesn't mean such a person won't have lapses in some aspect, I mean that

the person will be the most fitted and exact second half for you. When you
find the exact perfect will of God for you in marriage, you will be
compatible in every area (marriage, ministry etc.) and you will complement
one another. However, it's so disheartening that many have gone after
beauty and have mistakenly falling for Jezebels and Herods, sons and
daughters of the devil and now they are in deep mess and the wonderful
thing about this is that, you are not expected to divorce your spouse and
re-marry except if your spouse has died. This is the problem many have put
themselves in.

The will of God in Ministry:

We have been called to different ministries. However, many have deviated

from the ministry God has called them to and have started working in
someone else's own just because they find it more enjoyable to serve in that
aspect. Whereas the will of God for them in ministry is totally different from
where they are operating. Some are even supposed to be full time ministers,
but they are still working as per time ministers just because they think they
can't survive despite God's promises. They have gone out of God's will for
them in ministry. Some are in the ministry God called them into but are not
functioning according to God's will. Do you know that a person can be in
the ministry God called him into and still not be functioning according to
His will?

For example: A person who is called into the pastoral ministry becomes a
pastor but begins preaching prosperity only just to be able to get help from
members. Even when the souls of men are perishing under his nose, he
keeps on preaching prosperity. He is in the ministry God called him into but
he is not functioning the way God wants him to function. Some might be
told to go and start their ministry in a rural area but they will decline just
the way Jonah declined from going to Nineveh and they will head towards
Tarshish. They are not fulfilling the will of God in ministry and it is very
dangerous for a minister not to function in the will of God in ministry
because the devil is always trying to attack ministers of God. May we not be
attacked in Jesus Christ name, amen?

We have looked at the two kinds of will of God and some of the aspects of
the will of God. I want us to understand and remember that the will of God
is also the same as the purpose by which a person was created and sent into
the world. The will of God written about you in heaven is the purpose by
which God created you. The will of God can be so detailed and boil down to
the point that it tells you every step in life. Right before you were born, the

primary school, secondary school, higher institution and college you are to
attend has been written by God. In fact, the course you are to study has also
been written down and the person you are to marry but the reason many
parents have failed to align their children's path in the right path is because
they lacked the understanding of this. Some were not even Christians when
they gave birth, so how would they have known and heard from God the
schools their children should have attended. This is why every parent here
should not make such a mistake. Even before you give birth, you should
have known and received the template of the baby's life from God because
the baby, once born will be under your care and you are the one that will
start placing the child in the path he or she should tread. So, if you are
already aware of the schools and courses and even everything the child will
become in life, you will help direct the child's destiny the right path. If you
have already given birth and you have been directing the children without
knowing the will of God for him or her, you can still start now by asking
God to reposition your decisions on such a child unto His perfect will. You
can begin to ask God about the child so as to know how to further direct
him or her.

I believe the parents here are getting blessed!

One thing we should understand is that doing the will of God is expected of
us as Christians, because even Jesus Christ did the will of His God too.

John 6:38:

"For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him
that sent me."

If Jesus wanted His own personal will to be done, we wouldn't have gotten
the free gift of salvation because He would have backed out at the garden of
Gethsemane when He went to pray some hours before He was arrested. He
would have escaped the crucifixion and not have passed through those
sufferings or died but because it was the will of God that He died for us, He
endured till the end, fulfilling the will of God for His life. This should spur
us into working towards fulfilling God's will for our lives too.

However, let's quickly look at what the will of God is, for us.

The dimensions of the will of God for us

1. To give thanks:

1 Thessalonians 5:18:

"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you."

One of the general wills of God for every person is that we give thanks. And,
this is not regardless of any situation we find ourselves in. Giving thanks
should not only be done when we find ourselves in pleasant situations only,
but even in unpleasant situations. We should not be like a weather friend
who sticks only to his friend when things are rosy and sweet but leaves
when things go wrong or turn bad. Giving thanks should be done always
even when we pass through tribulations and trials. God so much desires
that we maintain a heart posture of Thanksgiving and not just grumbling
over issues. This is one of the keys that king David understood in the bible
that made him be the man after God's own heart. The bible establishes that
we will definitely pass through trials, temptations and tribulations, so
whenever we pass through these, our response should be thanksgiving
because of the fact that we know they will surely happen to every genuine
child of God.

Glory to God!

2. To be sexually pure (sexual purity):

1 Thessalonians 4:3:

"For this is the will of God, even your sanctification that ye should abstain
from fornication:"

God desires that we stay pure even sexually and desists from every form of
sexual sin that can cause us to lack sanctification and consecration. That
spirit that keeps pushing you towards the opposite sex to commit
fornication or adultery is not of God because God desires sexual purity for
every of his children. If you are engaging in fornication and adultery, you
are not doing the will of God. You are against His will because His will is
that you abstain from every form of evil and sexual impurity.

3. To be useful and shine as a light to our generation:

Acts 13:36:

"For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on
sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:"

God never desires that we become useless to our generation, but He wants
us to be useful to our generation. He wants us to serve as a light to the world
and introduce Him to our generation. This is why God loves those who are
selfless and ready to shine the light to their generation and He dislikes those
who want to be known for their selfish interest. One of the ways to really
win God's heart is to make His heart desire yours and His wishes your
wishes. You know that He loves soul winning, you take soul winning with all
your heart too. He gives more grace to those who choose to follow His will.
Jesus served the people when He was on Earth, we should also learn to
serve our generation. We should learn to be humble and allow the light of
God shine through us.

As we round up, I believe you now have an understanding of what the will of
God is. Let's now look at how to fulfill the will of God, having known that
fulfilling His will is to our own benefits.

How to fulfill the will of God

Firstly, before we look at how to fulfill the will of God, I want you to know
that His will always looks hard. Even in marriage, you might be surprised to
see that the person God calls your wife or husband is not the type of person
you "desire". But, one thing is certain that you can never regret marrying
such a person. So, prepare your mind that in fulfilling the will of God, it
won't be easy but with His strength and help, you will find it easy to do.

Therefore, let's look at how to fulfill the will of God.

1. Prepare your heart to do His will no matter how hard it seems: This is
the first thing to do. Prepare your heart to fulfill His will to the last drop of
your blood with all dedication. Don't give in to tiredness or discouragement
from any party but be ready and positioned to do His perfect will.

2. Ask Him to help you and rely on Him: What will make the will of God
unable to do is if you think you can do it on your own. You have to rely on
Him and ask for strength and grace. Then, you go ahead to do it.

3. Have faith: Believe in God and in yourself that you can do it. Low self
esteem will make you look down on yourself and reduce the ability to try
doing His will.

4. Pray and know the perfect will of God for your life: Be very sure of
what the will of God is for you. This is why you are to tarry, for you to know
His will for your life. Also, sustaining a very strong relationship with God
will make it very easy to know His will for you.

5. Be patient: In fulfilling the will of God, you must be patient. This is why
Patience is part of the fruit of the spirit. Many have missed it in life just
because they ran beyond their time and were not a bit patient. Some missed
it in marriage just because they thought they had overgrown and must
marry before the year runs out and as such, they married the wrong partner
and missed it. Be patient!

6. Be a studier and doer of the scriptures: Accurate studying of the

scriptures and doing of the word also helps in doing the will of God. God
speaks in diverse ways and can also speak through His word. Therefore, in
order to be accurate with His instructions, we are to study and do the
scriptures.

begin to live your life in strict obedience to God so that you can overcome
every sin in your life to make heaven, please place your right hand on your
chest and say this prayer with your mouth.

Say,

"Lord Jesus, I accept You as my personal Lord and Savior. I believe that You
died for me and took away my sins so that I will not face the penalty of
them. I surrender my life to You today, and I make a decision to obey and
follow You. Come into my life now and accept me as Your child. Thank You
for saving me, in Jesus Christ's name I pray, Amen."
